VTT: Dudson Wilcox & Till Serving Platter

This is just one other objects in my house that I have seen FOREVER without really thinking about it... So this morning I was trying to decide what to write about for VTT ( I can't ALWAYS write about Pyrex!) So this platter came to mind! It was made by Dudson Wilcox & Till in Hanley England. The pattern is Valcartier. The company was established in 1902 and folded in 1926. That means my platter is at least 84 years old!

I put this baby in the dishwasher! Yes I'm guilty on the convenience sin! But not with the Pyrex!!! Except the clear one! Ok back to the platter: I can't believe it is that old, man I use it all the time....In the winter at least onece a week when I make Chow Mein and a couple of times a week in the summer when I use the Q. I don't know where it came from, I didn't ask the man with the HUGE memory (my dad), but it's been in our family as long as I remember!
For more VTT fun head to www.coloradolady.blogspot.com and from there you can hop all over and learn about cool vintage stuff!

  1. You know what amazes me? I can't imagine half the stuff make in the year 2010 being around in 80 years...but this platter is!

And probably alot of what was made at the time could have been if it wasn't broken of whatever.

the stuff made now will probably turn to dust all on its own in a year

  2. Wow what a very cool platter! You need to ask your Dad if he knows where it came from. What a great treasure.

  3. I love that you use it. So often people put their things away for a 'special' day. Use what you have I say!

    Love the crazing.

  5. It is so great that you use that platter.

By the way, I can't remember the last time I had Chow Mein. My mom used to make it all the time and I remember it came in a big can - noodles and all.

    Happy Vtt,

    Jo

  6. Now I am hungry for Chow Mein. I haven't had it for a long time either. the stuff in a can is too salty for my taste, but maybe I'll buy some anyway.

  9. What a lovely platter, and a great family heirloom! I like that you actually use it, instead of packing it away. I'm sure you enjoy it much more that way!
    Happy VTT!

  13. That is a lot of years to be around. I love your collection of Pyrex. Very very nice. So pretty especially when all stacked together. There is no end to the vintage things I would collect if I had the space. Thanks for stopping by my blog

  18. I haven't used it since the post, so no dishwasher yet. I'm still undecided....

I have no other piece, I still don't know where it came from. Believe it or not my dad didn't remember this platter. He's supposed to read the post and tell me about it. I'll keep you posted

  19. Hi there, just doing some homework on my own Valcartier platter and came upon your photo. I wish I could tell you more about it. I found mine at a yard sale near Detroit around 2002 and have it in box. Once in a while I try looking again but without much luck but at least this time I found a picture of another. Thanks for posting.
