Still Pissed OFF!

I must admit that I'm still pissed OFF about the Pyrex feature in Country Living. Every time one of those 'well meaning' magazines publishes something about Pyrex, thte prices soars and they are so much harder to find! The first moron to do that was our friendly neighbourhood busybody , the one and only Martha! If she had left good enough alone we would be able to buy jadeite and Pyrex for pennies. Yes I know Rachael Ray is in the same boat.
And no way the prices are accurate for the Pyrex. If it was I would be able to buy a small third world country with what I have!!!

I was packing away my hutch this morning....because the imminent weekend of painting is nearly  upon us...and here is what I found:

As you probably know, this is a Pyrex restaurant ware pattern: Green Fern.

How ever if you turn the bowl over this is what you see....A Fireking bowl with a Pyrex pattern? How crazy is that??? What hapened here? Did Anchor Hockings decide to copy Pyrex? Did they share production facilities and a booboo happen? I don't know!
If you have info please share!

Other than that I cleaned and replaced itrems from the store, cleaned some Stephen King bookds and shrink wrapped them and started to make boxes of paperbacks to donate. We have a lot to do before we start to paint the living room/dining room/ hall (damn you open living!). Having big room is much harder to decorate!
Speaking of cleaning and packing...I emptied the hutch and I was able to fill 7 boxes of dishes! OMG! Wait till I empty the big Pyrex cupboard! LOL!

What were they thinking?

Last week I received a STRONG suggestion that the quantity of magazines lying around the house was TOO much...
Ans since everything in life is about compromise....And getting rid of mags (not the vintage ones) was really a good idea. So this week I go through all the mags one by one and I found this....

A new use for mismatched china in the April 2009 issue of Country Living.
There is a full tutorial on how to make a lamp with your mismatched china.....Did you notice the Pyrex bowl in the box? It's a New Dots 403. It is pretty hard to come by and is worth 15-20$.
Ok I wanna meet the person who has no use for a gorgeous bowl and is willing to drill a hole in the bottom.Which I consider extreme crafting.
I keep picturing crafters with shards of bowl inbedded in their faces screaming....Or in the emergency room: Tell me what happened....You see I was drilling a glass bowl...and

No you won't be seeing me anytime soon drilling Pyrex! Anyways I'm not too crazy about the end result...

I might do something like that but all in white which could be charming...or if Jadeite was coming out of my wazoo, I might try something in Jadeite 'coz the color is so gorgeous....But NO drilling!

I would so like to meet the crafters at Country Living and see what 'interesting' projects they have lying around in their heads....

Have a nice weekend dearest readers, and be very careful using powertools!

No Knits For Me!

I was really excited to get the Bargain Issue from Country Living in the mail this week!

I'm all about affordability, recycling, re-using, re-purposing. Just give me spray paint, hot glue and duct tape and I'm there baby!

So i'm enjoying my magazine, taking it in, loving all the pics and the tips and the bargains.....

When I see this....

and start feeling strangely ill....

Now just what is this??? They screwed a bulb in an old sweater? They actually covered a lampshade with an old sweater! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Give me CPR please! I just saw the dust and the cat hair stuck all over!!! I'm not a big duster and I don't see myself vaccuming the sweater like every second of my day. With 4 cats I soooo need smooth surfaces so the hair doesn't stick! And check out the vase at right, it would be a mohair vase here!
The sweater covered pillows I can handle, but no lampshades or vases! Please!
I bet we'll see a lot in Etsy...
Happy friday!

Happy B-Day to me.....

Well this is it! Today I turn the big 44! EEEEEWWWWWW! What a stupid number!
LOL! I don't feel older- Maybe a bit gassier (kidding). Went to the chinese buffet on Thursday night...nom nom nom those fried shrimp drive me MAD! And the chicken Soo Guy....To die for!
Had some black forest cake....from The Swiss Vienna (Pointe Claire) they certainly know their way around a cake....Got some cool gifts!
A subscription to Country Living , a BBQ cover with kitty faces on it-I'll have to take some pics. Some U.S. spending money (for the vacation-less than a week...), a birthday stocking (instead of a xmas one!), some beautiful fair trade earrings, a gift card and of course this wonderful laptop i'm writing on (Thanks Dad! You're a life saver!)
So I was spoiled as usual! So today was pretty calm. We watched the construction guy remove the cement from the walk and put in some stone dust....then went to the butcher to buy sausage casing (i kinda freaked when the guy who answered me didn't know what I was talking about), and watched Nip/Tuck on Megavideo. A supper of pulled pork, homemade coleslaw and french bread...It doesn't really get better than this!
