Here we go again!

Ok here I am running all over the place like a chicken without a head....Re-packing the luggage, briefing the house sitter, doing laundry....

We are heading out to Maine (again lol) but this time with my Dad!

Where I hope to see more of these guys!

Old Orchard beach is slowly gentrifying itself...is it good? Not always!

A lot of really old signs will be replaced, like this Chop Suey sign. Not tell me, just who craves chop suey at the beach? 

I try to immortalize these old gems as much as I can before they disappear....Ok I find this one really funny...Patate Frite means french fry in french, they put that translation for french canadians who used to make the bulk of the Old Orchard tourist trade. Now I ask you why a translation just for french fries? Why not for fried clams? Are french canadians not allowed to eat fried clams? Makes me wonder...

I will be stopping here for some apple pie....

The Journey

This will be a short post because I have the early shift at the postal counter....I just returned from a visit to one of my fave blog Crazy Suburban Mom. Tracy has been on a weight loss journey and is sharing some of it today.

As you know I have been also, since January 18 2010. Right now I'm on the GI diet and I love the food. It's a lot of work, I feel great but the weight is stagnant...just staying there! At least I'm not gaining. I might need to read it again and take a different approach!

So in the spirit of friendship I too will share a pic. I've been afraid of the camera for quite some time now and in the past year I didn't even want a head shot.... 

So here I am at the Puzzle Mountain Bakery on rte 22 the weekend I went to the shore. I know it's not a head to toe shot...but I wanted the folks to see the pies....

I actually asked Dan to take my pic! The poor thing nearly fainted! We didn't buy a pie, but to celebrate the pie shack as I call it ,we bought some maple creams...OMG so rich,so sweet....so GOOD! A sandwhich cookie with some maple icing in the middle! OY!

Ok that's it for today, gotta get reading to peddle stamps! LOL  

Where to begin????

I had so much fun on my vacation, I don't know where to start!

So last Saturday we went to pick up my Dad and off we went!

We always have the same jokes...Like the fact that we must eat all the fresh fruit before crossing the border, because we're not allowed to bring some to the States....

We stopped at Howard's restaurant in Colebrook N.H. I had found that place in the internet. It was right on the way and certainly the place to be! Breakfast was great! Simple food, done well at a fair price. You can't ask for anything more!

Over the toilet bowl, there was this sign (see first pic) It kept us entertained for a while....

Simple pleasures!

Route 26 through New Hampshire and Maine, must be my all time favorite road! There's tons to see, waterfalls, wild turkeys, little villages....flea markets....and the Puzzle Mountain bakery! I wrote about them las year. They have this little cupboard by the side of the road and you can buy pies,cookies,preserves and pickles. And you leave the money in a box nailed to the side of the tree! This year we bought blueberry pie (I figured since blueberries are the state fruit!), and it was delicious! Fingerlicking! More in another post....

Apple preserving

As planned I made a batch of apple jelly this morning. I didn't remember it being soooo much work. Thank god it is done! It tastes really good and makes for some great Xmas presents...Yes I am already thinking about Xmas....When I had access to a gazillion stores (i.e. When I was working) by this date I had a third of my shopping done. Can you believe that?
On a related subject, while driving back home on route 26, we stopped at a little shack in the mountain in Maine. This little place fills me up with joy and I get misty just thinking about it.The Puzzle mountain bakery bakes pies, cakes,
c

ookies, jams and jellies. They put them in the two stands with the price on them and when you want some you just put the money in a box nailed to a tree. It amazes me that they have so much faith in people, that they believe people are basically honest and good....Well I bought pickles, I haven't tasted them yet, but I will keep you posted!
