Twitter Beware

I read my twitter feed a couple of times a day to keep up to date, read witty tweets and get new recipes.

On Sunday afternoon I spotted this recipe .

Avocado, eggs and bacon .

I said to Dan, I need to try this for breakfast tomorrow!!! It looks delicious...avocado good, cheese good, egg good, bacon good.

Since the recipe called for cooked bacon, i fried up some bacon and pulled out an avocado from the fridge.

Yesterday morning, I pre-heated the oven and started wrestling with the avocados. The recipes asks us to put the avocado halves on top of a muffin tin otherwise the eggs will spill...

Well GOOD LUCK with that! I tried and next thing I know the hole I made is not big enough and the white spilled on the counter and in the muffin tin....Finally I balanced the halves on milk glass cups in tin foil plates.

I was really excited to try this, the cheese was golden, the bacon looked crunchy....

And then I took a spoonful and scooped out some and ate it.

OMG WHAT THE HECK IS THAT??? IT TASTES OF DIRT!!!

I couldn't believe what was happening...the warm avocado tastes like crap...okay dirt

It was a bit better with cheese and bacon but a total fail overall.

Don't people test recipes anymore?

And to think of all those people who loved it on Twitter and Pinterest!

Sorry but from now on no warm avocado for me

(Just the thought of it makes me gag...)

Caramel Corn

Ok here it is my caramel corn recipe.

It is gooooood! And super addictive.

It came from a blog with the word tree in it...It was a great recipe blog and then one day poof you had to be invited to be able to read it.

I am really glad I copied the recipe before!

Caramel Corn
2 cups brown sugar (packed)
1 cup butter
½ cup dark corn syrup
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
5 quarts popped corn
Pop corn and keep warm in 2 shallow pans (however, I recommend using one large roasting pan versus cookie sheets) in 250 degree oven. Combine sugar, corn syrup, butter and salt in a sauce pan on stovetop. Bring to a boil slowly and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda. Pour immediately over popped corn and mix well. Place back in oven and bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Let cool and break up. Store in container . Freezes well.

Now you could do the whisky version as well...When you remove from the heat, do not add the baking soda but add 12 tablespoons of whisky and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Mix well and put on the stove again and cook until it gets thicker.

So enjoy and see you soon!

Try This for a change!

So if you've read yesterday's post and are looking to try something different....

Now I spotted this recipe in my favorite local newspaper (The Montreal Gazette), turns out it is from the Moosewood Cafe in NY state.

It is delicious even if I had to adapt it to the new food regimen!

Confetti Kale Salad

Now this alls for carrots which you can't eat on the Dr. Oz 2 week program, so I replaced them with

orange peppers (or red, even yellow, you just need a burst of color!)

Be sure to make it the night before to let the flavours mingle and make friends!

I hope you find this as delicious as I did!

Sleep well :)
