Vintage Thingie Thursday: Weird Vintage Stuff

Hello readers! Today for my VTT (Vintagr Thingie Thursday) I will talk to you about the hen and the ladies.
First the hen. I saw it 20 years ago in my mother-in-law's trailer. Well not really in the trailer but in the kitchenette attached to the trailer. That trailer (and kitchenette) was sooo 70's I actually had a gag reflex when I first set foot in it.
Everything was brown or orange with beige accents, except the 'bathroom'- a glorified broom closet with a harvest gold chemical toilet. And the hen of course. It was nailed to the wall of the kitchenette ready to accept a bar of soap.
It was quite an experience for a city girl that had never set foot on a camping ground. My mother-in-law would spend most of her summers there chatting with neighbors, sunning and building fires in an old wash tub. She invited us quite often. I learned to love that place. We actually bought it some years later. It was before my vintage phase, so unfortunately a lot of stuff was thrown away, but not the hen! It is now on my window sill in my kitchen, the only surviving piece of the kitchenette (the wind ripped off the roof and the walls collapsed 3 weeks after we sold it AS IS). I never found out what happened to the trailer....
The ladies

I saw those ladies in a window display of a small shop on Wellington Avenue in Verdun(near Montreal). All had knitted caps and seemed to wait for something....I used to live in Verdun before buying the house and moving to Ile Perrot. I hadn't been there in more than a year and it struck me how most of the shops looked vintage. I had never noticed while I lived there for 4 years...Then again I didn't have the vintage eye back then! LOL
The shop owner was not amused I took a pic of his window....

Glad you salvaged the soap dish before the kitchenette became salvage! That hat display is very nice - thanks for taking the photo to share with us!

I like your window picture. I would have photographed it too. It's crazy how people are so paranoid about people photographing anything nowadays.

Your hen reminded me of a hen I had for my kitchen that was meant as a holder for "scrubbies." I was a simpler style and I think it was painted with a spatter design. I don't think I got rid of it, but haven't seen it since I moved more than 15 years ago.

What a great collection of vintage things. I enjoyed seeing all of them, but like the hen dish best.

I love the little display of 'heads.' They are so pretty all in a row.

OMG - small world. I was just on Wellington this summer to apply for my passport (Services Canada). I'm originally from the South Shore. I used to work in Westmount and would often go down to Verdun for lunch. For fish & chips on ... mmm .... Church St. maybe?? I've been to Ile Perrot too - my stepmother's parents lived there.

Those "ladies" are a pretty bunch. I can so see them fitting into the storefronts on Wellington. Thanks for sharing.

Your comment on the shop owner was funny...they can get so uptight at times! Love the display.

That little hen is just so cute and you are right, very 70's. Don't you wish you would have saved more, now....my mom got rid of lots of things that I wish she still had and had saved.

Have a great fall weekend and a wonderful VTT!

That soap dish is cute, but I really love those heads! They all have such sweet expressions on their faces! I would love to have one to display a hat or some vintage jewelry on!
Happy VTT!

This is all just charming!!! I've read several pages back in the posts, and will return soon for more.

I'll bet MY GrandMother-in-Law's trailer was smaller than YOUR MIL'S trailer!! They lived in it for their home, and it was 50's PINK where yours was 70's brown and orange, with the REAL wood walls, very old-fashioned for a mobile home, very small, and like living inside a beautiful, intricately-carved box.

I love all your finds!!

Maureen, it's such a small world!

For fish and chips it's Mom's fish and chips on Church. I don't know if it's still opened.

Thanks everybody for visiting! One thing I learned is to always have the camera near....lol...we never know!

The hen is fun, are there things you would save if you could do it over? I have been helping my mom clean her closets etc and think it's a good thing we didn't do it five years ago because I would have sent most of the vintage stuff to the thrift store. Now, I am having so much fun, it's like a treasure hunt.

Funny how our taste changes and what was once tacky is now cool. go figure? Cute chicken, a great keeper.

If I could go back in time I would've kept all the vintage Tupperware and the linens too.

I remember keeping an awful(cool) zodiac clock, but that disappeared...:(

I LOVE that soap holder, particularly because I am a chicken/hen/rooster collector, but it's just so darned kitschy too!
