OMG

The house SOLD, the house SOLD, the house SOLD!!!!!!

What? What? What?

And it sold in less than 2 months...which is freaking amazing considering the price point.

All the stress fell and we caught this freak cold...If a cold and the flu had a love child!

That really kicked our butts...all the while trying to pack boxes, boxes and more boxes and trying to deal with the balance of my dad's stuff.

and working full time....so it was good times all around!

This is also a very emotional time as I am purging, cleaning and finding this I was not aware of.

My Dad was as shy as he was exuberant...Yes it happens
When he told me he had been nominated for an Emmy award for Cirque du Soleil's Dralion
he also told me he would not go and pick it up in L.A.
This is when he received it at his workshop.

I took this picture from the TV.
I was watching the documentary that was released
the year after his death. It was like visiting with him.

This picture is from Google. He was in his early 20's.
His teachers had him pegged as a fashion designer
but he loved the theater.
So selling his house and moving is a huge thing but
it was a necessary thing.
I do not see our life as scrimping and scraping trying to get by
, to pay insurance and those crazy municipal taxes....
So of my Dad's friends do not approve...
And to those people I say fiddledee!

And to this fuzzy bellied cat I say hello gorgeous!
Yoda loves to sleep on her back!

When we move in my Dad's house we only bought
a sofa and a staked washer and dryer for small places.
this move we needed a kitchen table and we wanted a Tulip table
but after seeing the prices we opted for a lookalike not really Tulip table

and those will be our dining room chairs. we decided to
refurbish our old chairs for the kitchen.
And after trying 50 plus sofas we decided to keep the 60's black vinyl
3 seater and put foam and new vinyl on it.

Last week on a buy and trade Facebook site, I read
the message of a young woman who had recently separated and had
2 kids and she was looking for this we could donate.
So I gave her these. She was so grateful and happy and I did not have to list them and deal with
weird classified buyers...

I had to empty my freezer and look what I found...
pork chops from 2015! and they are not even freezer burned!
WHAT???
I am my parents daughter and I will thaw them out and cook them.
My mother was a penny pincher and even if Dad loved to splurge he was really cheap on food!

We also got through our first move.
Yes we will have 2 moves.
All my Dad's nativity is moved, 50 boxes, all the wood working tools
the freezer, the extra fridge and some furniture.
So that clears a lot of extra place for new boxes!

Seeing this makes me so happy, I feel tingly all over!
We have a red room right now and we love it, so this was
a no brainer!

I just fined baking Dixie's Orange Cake from
Pyrex prize recipe. This was a challenge from the Facebook group Pyrex and everything vintage!

NAILED IT!

That's it for tonight...Suddenly I am very, very tired

Take care faithful readers!

You Know What?

You know what?

That adirondack chair was not going to get the best of me!

So last Tuesday we went to the hardware store with a bolt in my purse to buy new nuts.

Sunday I made this chair my primo project....

                                                    Less than 30 minutes later...

A nice cedar adirondack foldable chair!

Yoda was taking a bath on the loveseat...
                                                     Goodtimes!

My Dad gave us a family treasure from the 1800's.

A pair of wood elephants that have been in the family ever since
                                            my Dad can remember!

My web research didn't turn up much except that most of them come from England and that these my might made of teak wood.
                                          Dan is crazy about them!

Last I'd like to share a vintage vignette fom the living room.

This is the antithesis of the decor I grew up with and I believe
this is why I love mid-century modern.

So take care and sleep tight thrifty friends!

What a Great Day!

Somedays planets just seem to align and everything is going your way...

We were up before 7 am. We had some coffees and watched a bit of tv (let's be civilized...no?)

And at 8:00 am we were outside ready to go!

                                                    Screws and tools....
                                                   Opening the box....

Almost there....That is an heavy sun umbrella!

Summer Paradise! I cam't wait to read the paper....

 Snack for hardworking folks.

Next project assembling an Adirondack chair

Well....I had to put it back in the box....

There's something wrong with the nuts! LOL
The nuts are toooo tight!

We have to go to the hardware store tomorrow...

Time to get ready for the week ahead!

Sleep tight :)

Thrifty Finds

In the beginning of June we went to a super duper church basement sale in St-Zotique ,Québec about 30 minutes west of Ile Perrot.

It was rainy, so rainy but we managed to score a couple of cool finds.

I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping this one. So far every one I see, I put in the store and they always sell pretty fast. I have 2 small santas but this is my first small snowman blowmold.
For 1$ what's not to like?

I also snatched this sweet orange juice serving set for a song. This is already in the store...1961 Good Morning Juice Serving Set by Napcoware...barely used...makes you wonder!

And this...well I should say these because we got 4. One orange, one white and 2 turquoise...

Stackable plastic and metal chairs from the 60's.

From Plastique Provincial who were best know to make the classic plastic motel chair in these parts....

This is the Solair chair in designed in Montreal in 1972.

They sold hundreds of thousands and I would die to put my thrifty hands on some.

They are still in production but these days they would set you back about 100$ each!

We gor ours for 12$ for 4. SWEET!

Which reminds me that I have a really cool turquoise spatter melamine serving plater still in the car trunk!

Have a great night :)

Friday Mishmash

This week I got a really cool surprise in the mail.....

Yep! A good and generous soul sent this to little ol' me. I have no idea who did this wonderful act of generosity. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Last night I had to do something really, really hard. I had to throw away my favorite chair. It was old and stinky and not even vintage. Dan had told me the blue monster had to go....just thinking about it I felt a thightness in my chest....We had bought the blue chair and a matching sofa in 1998 after the big ice storm. You know the one...where a lot of people were without electricity for anywhere from 2 to more than 4 weeks in January.BRRR!
We were 11 days without power. Anyways when spring came we went to Sears Home and got a chair, a sofa and an area rug. Beautiful all of it...We the delivery guys came we found out that what looked ok in the showroom was GINORMOUS for our tiny living room.
The cats went to work on them right away. We had 6 cats at the time and their leader was OOCH. Ooch who claw the chair several times a day...The running gag was that the couch was all ripped up even before it was totally paid off!
Eventually we gave the couch to SD and her boyfriend who didn't have one but kept the chair.

It's big, blue, ugly, stinky and the most comfortable chair EVER. Dan felt it was soooo ugly and white trash looking that we had to wait until sundown to bring it out. I gave it a hug, I nearly cried.

This morning I went outside and took pics...

LOL! I'm happy it's gone come to think of it...The cats are looking for it. It was really stinky, no amount of Febreeze could remove that weird smell....cigarette smoke, dirt, cat ass....lol
Yep cigarette smoke stays with furniture 4 ever! The house has been smoke free for nearly 5 years now....

Ooohhh! An artistic close-up of the cat's damage

Well gotta go now, time to make the donuts! See you at the post office :)

Adventures in scavenging....

I had to mail something this morning and while walking to the mailbox I remembered that it was big garbage pickup today....Oh my! The possibilities!
While reading my blog you might have noticed that I get really excited over small stuff....Nothing makes me happier than a big pile'0'garbage....And I keep having the recurrant fantasy that I will find mint Pyrex in the garbage! Not all loony tunes are locked up let me tell you that!
Well today with my enveloppe in hand I spied a wall of rejected furniture, old carpets and this adorable wicker chair!!! I had to move an old mattress and shelving units to get at it....Ok, ok the seat has a couple of holes, but I'm thinking...garden ornement with a plant on it....
After I freed the chair, I saw a big bunch of plastic plants...but wait just one minute! It's not just plastic crap, it's a big tomato plant, with small tomatoes in it! Well I just had to bring that home as well!
Who throws away a tomato plant???
I believe scavenging is genetic...Dad would bring furniture he'd found in alleys, Mom would recycle fabric until it died. When my Dad would have a hole in a sweater, well presto changeo, Mom would recut it, sew it back and it would become a dress for me...She would take white thights and dye them to match...I had a lot of brown and khaki outfits when I was small!!!

Merry Xmas to me!!!

Dad is a practical man. He loves giving me practical gifts. One year I got a bathroom window! So when he asked what I wanted for Xmas 2008, I said that we needed a chair for the living room so he could give that to me and Dan and his shopping troubles would be over.

So I measured the monster I had (coz in 1998 I didn't measure anything) and set out to find a chair that would fit nicely in my quite small living room and I searched high and low (I thought it couldn't be done)...until I found one in a montreal deco shop. But the salesrep was OBNOXIOUS, so we decided to leave the store with no chair. I was pissed off for a couple of weeks and then suddenly it dawned on me to complain about that service which made me feel like pigeon poo! So I complained and got 20% off and free delivery! How sweet is that??? So on December 26th 2008 we went and ordered that chair (we had to go there in person because the color was custom...). It was so long, so very long, I thought the chair would be outdated! Finally I received it yesterday after 4 months!!!

And it's a local chair made in Victoriaville Quebec! Yay for local goods! I just love the chair it has that new car smell....Needless to say that I camouflaged it with throws so the kitties don't use it as a scratching post (at least for the time being...)LOL

Thanks Dad for the chair! It's a beautiful Xmas gift!

Hugs and Kisses XOXOXOXOXO
