Lemons....

When we vacationned in Maine with my Dad he complained about the price of lemons.

They were $1.29 a piece. He flipped out.

OMG the lemons are soooo expensive here, next time we come we will bring lemons from Montreal!

Right Dad! Like we would be able to smuggle a bunch of lemons at customs.....He just spent thousands of dollars for a week by the shore, car rental and meals...Yet those lemons were bugging him.

In the past months Dad stopped buying lemons because he felt they were too expensive...He was buying limes instead!

Today I was grocery shopping in my secret thrifty no frills grocery shop....and I saw this:

Lemons .39 cents each

Just for you Dad, just for you!

This will always crack me up!

Seen Around

Today's edition of Seen Around will definitely shock some readers and raise some highbrows!

The first pictures were taken at Ogilvy's one of Montreal's fancy pants departement store...They were selling the $145 panettone for Xmas last year....

First ordinary hair clips, sparkly but it is a hair clip, right?

Yes you saw that right, $207 !!! $207 for a hair clip....For $207, I would buy a LOT of groceries,
make a car payment, buy 20 $10 long sleeve t-shirts, Xmas shop....But I will not buy a hair clip!

One could also get small hair clips....

A steal at $27!!!

Now for the second batch of pictures... Lay's Canada have a yearly contest, where folks can dream up
chip flavors, we can try them , vote for them and the winner gets a piece of the profits of that flavor.

Brace yourselves, here are this year's offerings

                                          Jalapeno Mac'n'cheese

                                          Cinnamon Bun (????)

                                          Tzatziki

                                          Bacon poutine

Now I have no idea why someone would dream up cinnamon bun flavored chips....But if I find a small bag I'd be willing to try all 4. I bet Tzatziki is my fave!

Last year I tried Bacon Perogies and it was soooo salty, my hands looked like bouquets of sausages!

I can already see my Dad's face as he rolls his eyes...He always finds my love of strange flavors , well strange!

So good night and I don't want to hear that someone bought one of those hair clips! LOL

Seen Around

Are you sick of Grumpy Cat?

Well I am not! LOL

As I was on the hunt for bargain Xmas leftovers last week I came across this

                                            Grumpy Cat fuzzies
I won't be spending my hard earned money on this

Cat's Pajamas...I wonder how my cats would feel about that!

And at that price I will NEVER EVER know!
Last pair of pajamas I bought for myself I got at $9.94!

I really this sofa but didn't check out the price

I would love to get or make a coffee table just
like this with a built in shadow box.

But my favorite thing I saw was this....

No words needed!

Have a great Sunday

Be well :)

All the pictures were taken at Urban Outfitters
downtown Montreal

Xmas Decor and Maple Syrup

Now I didn't share enough Xmas pictures as I wanted to. I was so flustered and tired.

It seems I'm coming to my senses and have more energy.

So here goes....

The Bay department store had a 50's themed Xmas decor
                                           corner.
                                           Those mushrooms were adorable!
If I'm not mistaken, the display was done in collaboration with
                                            Lord & Taylor
                                           Rudolph!

I loved the color scheme for the kitchen. Would I do
my kitchen like that? I don't think so.
Ok, last but not least....Le Creuset....
This is my fantasy piece. The Terinne mold.
I don't remember the price. All I remember is the whiplash
I got when I saw the prices of other pieces.
I own 2 Le Creuset , one Dan gave me in 1992 and the other I got in
1998. They were a lot cheaper back then!
Now they retail for $400-$500 each!!!

                                                      THAT IS CRAZY!!!!

                                                     Now for the maple syrup!

I thought this was a total hoot!
A GIANT can of maple syrup (the stuff dreams are made of...at least
 in Quebec!)
It came from an art gallery on St-Lawrence blvd.

If I had a loft I would so get this....

and I would have a entire room dedicated to

Pyrex

(as if that is a surprise!)

Sleep well!

For Mick (my Casablanca friend) I' m about to finish season 2

of American Horror Story.

I think I like season 2 better. Jessica Lange is AMAZING!!!

The acting is sooooo good

I will watch the last episode tomorrow, I hope

They're baaaaaacccckkkkk!

Yes they are and I took a picture of them at lunch.

Do you see them? no? Let.s have a closer look

Yes the $120 cookies are back. Same price as last year, still not
                                                going to buy them. E-V-E-R!!!

$120 gets a ot of groceries or clothes....

Today I also saw a $145 Pannetone, yes you read right
I couldn't take a picture because the saes clerk was gawking.

I'll get my chance I'm not worried.

                                              Sleep tight  :)

I'll Have a Side of Cream Corn with....

With my FIFTEEN DOLLAR bread!

First I want to thank warmly all of you great gals who commented on yesterday's post! I had great fun reading your views.

For my long time reader Grunge Queen: I'll take the dare and go back next week and ask: Why is the bread soooo expensive and how come they don't bake the bread on the premises and I'll try to take picture before they throw me out; because real french people get real weirded out if you diss what they do (and I've been thrown out by crazy french people before)
By the way if you find realy expensive bread in the UK do share please!

On my way to work I passed La Queue de Cheval Steak House (the Pony Tail) and saw this....

What stikes at first glance is the price and then my eye drifts to the actual side....

24$ for the mushroom trio; if you buy those fresh at the supermarket you spend let's say 6$ and make a couple of plates.....

All the sides are super expensive when you consider that you already paid at least 50S for a steak and if you want a veggie the cheapest is.... Either a plain baked potato or a pickles for SIX DOLLARS!

Do you want to see what we got for less than a bread and a side of cream corn?

Okay this picture looks totally white trash! The dead leaves, the pack of cats,
the blowmolds in limbo (before they make it to the shed), the above ground pool and the 20$ avocado vintage chair for our 60's living room!

It was quickly adopted by the cats. It will be cleaned and de-crappyfied before entering the home.

So let's do the math! FIFTEEN DOLLARS for a bread, TWELVE DOLLARS for cream corn equals TWENTY SEVEN DOLLARS. Substract the price of the chair (20$) and I have SEVEN DOLLARS  left over to buy a box of Kraft Diner and some ground chuck for a lovely un-complicated lunch.

Mind you it's not gourmet.....but it will do nicely for us until we feel the urge to slurge!

Have a great night and watch out for EIGHT DOLLAR broccoli!
