New Year!

Happy New Year to all my readers!

2016 was a very important year for me. It was hard, sad, good, teary,happy and then some!

I am finishing a week's vacation where I mostly slept, cleaned,cooked  and slept some more.

I feel so stoked, so energized. It is a wonderful feeling! The sky's the limit!

This year I made achievable resolutions....

NO MORE credit card debt and less procrastination at work.

I added a new one today....Taking better care of myself; drinking more water, eating less sugar, moisturizing more....moving more....

Those I should be able to achieve not like losing 75 pounds in 3 months and becoming an Olympic athlete.

I am also grocery shopping from my freezers. So far with frozen turkey breast I made turkey tacos and there was enough left over to make turkey ramen with edamame (from the freezer too), lasagna with ground beef , Italian sausage and Portuguese bacon all from the freezer, last but not least was a big freezer container of traditional french Canadian meatball stew (ragout de boulettes) served with boiled potatoes and parsley for supper tonight...with left overs for lunch tomorrow!

I say it is a win-win!

Since the beginning of the year we brought 10 boxes of books and stuff to various thrifts.

 Of course I didn't donate any of my beloved Xmas Pyrex!

Way too precious!

And tonight I am watching the Golden Globes...

And I am wondering what the hell Nicole Kidman was thinking when she

embarked on her plastic surgery journey. She was so beautiful, so natural....

and tonight I only saw the plastic doll face....So sad

And Felicity Hoffman! She is a character actress, playing real women and tonight she

looked like an orange Barbie.

I am thinking there was a BOGO on Botox! A lot of foreheads look ironed!

Just what is wrong with wrinkles, expression lines, and creases ?

On this note...I will sign off and go moisturize!

Moving Day follow up

After I wrote about my unbelievable find ...AKA the Safe T Cone

I went to the convenience store to validate my lottery tickets....

And get the new ticket I HAD to buy since I found the amazing blowmold ice cream cone!

I took the opportunity to visit other garbage piles....

And I saw this big green Tupperware from the 70's (I think) and I just had to save it from the dump!

I opened it and it was full of flour! Oh my!

I grabbed it and snuck in the car port and dumped the content in the garbage...

 I am sure I will get a lot of use out of this one!

I was appalled to see all the waste from moving day.

I saw a lot of unopened food stuff such as pasta and rice.

A lot of clothes and empty bottles.

But on the selfish side...I can't wait for next year to see what people left!

The glory of potted cheese

I believe I blogged about this before...once or twice!

But making a jar of it filled me with joy!

For me this is free cheese...yesssss!

On Monday morning I decided it was time for a freezer clean up. I threw out a bunch of mystery zipper bags and pieces of stale bread. I fished out broad beans, smoked salmon and shrimp to make a nice freezer supper and I spotted my freezer plastic container labeled Potted Cheese....It was full

Time for POTTED CHEESE!

This recipe is from England. You take all the bits of cheese lying around in your fridge...I know some of you will go : Whhaaattt? we never have any bits of cheese lying around!

Well I beg to differ. You know that dried piece of cheddar you are about to throw out? Put it in a labelled freezer container, and keep adding over time.

Once the pot is full, you can defrost it or leave it until you crave something different!

I usually cut the cheese a bit before freezing.

This time I had cheddar, gouda, havarti and mozzarella .

I put the cheese in the food processor (as you can see in the picture, my vintage 1989 Cuisinart)

I added seasoned salt, paprika and marsala wine

I believe you can add about any spice or dried herb.

It is great with white wine too. Beer could be nice....

after whizzing to a smooth consistency, I put it in a 2 cups (500 ml)

Mason jar or 2 smaller ones.

Wait a couple of weeks for the flavors to blend and serve as a spread or on toast or crackers!

It will keep for several months in the fridge.

A Seasonal Surprise

I got an email a couple of weeks ago about the Tassimo Nice List; I was asked to name a deserving person to receive  a Tassimo coffee maker.

Well I was skeptical for sure, so I did some research. I found out that the PR company representing Tassimo was in fact the same company that represented Clamato!

And last year I was a Clamato Embassador! So I said to Dan; why not let's give them a whirl.

So who was deserving more than Dan? A really good, generous person who had to pay more than his share of bills since I was getting a smaller paycheck and still managed to spoil me!

So I gave Dan's name and let's face it we weren't really expecting anything because almost half the time someone from the internet tell you:I will send you something, well they don't come through which is a shame.

Well lo and behold, 2 days after there was a big ass box at my front door and there was Dan's new Tassimo.

If you are a regular reader you know that I don't like these things as they are expensive to run and not really eco-friendly.

But we got one and Dan was really excited about it and we went and got disks for it....

And the coffee is excellent! Now it won't be our main coffee maker, but our late night decaf weekend coffee maker.

And I'm really grateful that they choose me. By the way no one asked me to review it or blog about it.

Now while I was in Massena NY , I tried to find funky Tassimo disks

and couldn't find any.

I can't believe I have to go to work tomorrow! 

 

Free! And other winter pleasures....

I should have blogged about this in early December...lol I'm such a naughty girl......



On one of my wednesday walks in late November(to the chruch basement) I spotted this little evergreen by the side of the road.



The owners of the house were working on their house and had ripped most of the lanscaping.

I couldn't believe my luck! FREE tree! Free tree!!!



Of course I dragged it back to my house! Too bad it was too short to bring in the house and use it as my main Xmas tree. But I always wanted to have a lighted evergreen outside...And this is just what I did with some nice LED lights! It was delicious....



Second picture is of my new (second hand) Santa. This year I declared that I needed (not wanted...NEEDED! lol) a plastic Santa to put outside.



I found an interior one at the Salvation Army (.49 cents) and we went for supper at my brother in law Pierre and he gave me his old Santa that he didn't use anymore!



Wow I sure was in Santa heaven!!!


Last but not least a picture of my snowman. I've had it for 10-12 years, found it at the hardware store and it was love at first sight...sigh! LOL
