Recap 2018 part 3

By October I realized that if I wanted to make a HUGE dent in my Dad's stuff I needed an outlet, somewhere where they would take a large variety of items....

I found those lovely people on Facebook and they have a second hand store in my new neighborhood.

They were a total godsend! and right now my priority is getting rid of stuff and making a bit of money and it makes them happy and I am happy so everybody is happy!

Here are some of the things they took

So much copper! Yes there is a market for it but people like to pay $1 soon
I was happy to see it go.

Pewter was my Mom's fave. I kept a couple of pieces
bit I was singing a song when it left....
 More copper....aaarrrggghhh!
Brass anyone? The glassware I still have and I just might keep
the celery glasses because they make great vases.
They did not want the duck family at first but they took them!
Woohoo! I could not stand these guys....
I kept an antique Chinese one for Peking duck
Yes I sold this one but in the classifieds and well below market price.
I am against Pyrex that is so expensive so need to second mortgage your house!
I bought this one in early 2018 for a really good price and I made a profit while
making a husband really happy to find a great gift for his wife for Xmas!
Is that a win win??? YYYEEESSSSSSS!

I French those chairs are called Burgers and I've seen them all my life.
I have a picture of Dad holding me on my first Xmas and he is sitting in one of those.
well they were from the early 1900's and would have benefited from a total makeover.
They were ripped up by claws...kinda scratchy and smelly so out they went....

sigh....

and then I fell in love! Every Thursday night I would check the duplexes for sale....
and it was always the same listings....crappy buildings....weird renos....a new trend is totally opening
the space even the bedroom.....NO just NO!

I saw it on Friday night, I left a message to the realtor. He called me back on Saturday
On Sunday we visited, we made an offer and it was accepted all in the same weekend!
I dream of that kitchen at night...heated floors ...what???
It is so square....and plumb and white and shiny.
 I love the floors....
I have a basement, I have a basement lol
that is so exciting to me.....

Thanks for bearing with me! I was sure by January 5th I would've posted my resolutions...

I still haven't been to Vegas!

That is for another day

Be well my friends

My Favorite Store

Did I mention I love my new neighborhood ?

That I feel alive more so than the last 5 years? I love the neighborhood life, the cafés, the bistros and the little one of a kind shops...

Speaking of which, I am head over heels about  this adorable shop that is just one block away from my house.

I present to you the Lambert Gratton General Store.
Located on the corner of De Bullion street and Duluth, it opened in June 2015.

Every item in this delightful space is curated with love and care.
Here you can find amazing local products, handmade soaps,
mustards, sauces, soft drinks, cards...
all made in Quebec!

And a beautiful selection of vintage items,
all reasonably priced.

 Check out all the glassware!
I am sure you could find a missing piece for your set.

The artisan spruce beer and root beer are my personal faves!

They also have a delightful selection of Pyrex.

Aren't these beautiful displays?

A nice selection of tools for the gardener.

And even some fab vintage lawn chairs....

My latest find? those adorable kitschy S&P shakers..
Just because....

So folks if you are planning a Montreal visit, be sure to visit
Magasin General Lambert Gratton and like them on Facebook

See you there!

It was hard

I do come from a family with hoarding tendencies....

I have a distant cousin who bought a barn to stash his finds and treasures....

Another complains that her boyfriend brings trash home but is will to take all kind of unwanted artifacts...

My Dad has various collections....Books, copper pots, yellow vases to name a few....

Me ? Well you know about the Pyrexia , the Lampalia, I love vintage ashtrays (we don't smoke), vintage linens, cotton sheets...

And Mason jars....My faves are the antique ones, I have great blue ones but basically I love them all!

They are so practical!

I was informed last week that I had a unknown stash of Mason jars in the basement ....They were all dusty, cruddy with dead bugs in some....

So I shaked the bugs out and put them all in the dishwasher.

I a quite a few

and a new box..... with a big zipper bag of rings
21 in all
I knew they had to go
but it was hard!
I didn't want to give them
I wanted to bask in the glory of the Mason jar!!!

In case you're wondering I have a box or 2 in the storage locker
ready to move!!!
And nearly all my dry goods are store in Mason jars....

Have a great day!

I'm cleaning the oven today!!!

A change

I took a day off today to take care of some business.

And while waiting for the tech to show up....I was able to clean the pantry, the liquid shelf (were the oils, vinegar, soya sauce and assorted liquid condiments live including Tabascos, nuoc mam-fish sauce, Chinese cooking wine)

I also went through the spice shelf. I am very proud of what I did. There never seems to be any time on the weekends....sigh

I also did a bit of decorating

The lighting is always really bad in this corner.
Sorry . After the Xmas stuff was packed up, I was looking for some decorating
ideas. And then came the 0.75 cents pitcher.....
It is a soft turquoise, not robin egg...a bit darker
I will take sharper pics and maybe someone can help me identify it.

This is my last thrifty find from last weekend.
I saw it and had to have it...A North Pole
NY glass. It was so dirty I could not pose it before.

I figured it was about time I got a Xmas vintage glass!

This is it for tonight. We ae being whipped left and right by
                                             a late winter snow storm...We are expecting about a foot of snow;
oh well, we do live in Quebec!

                                            Sleep tight!

Where was I ?

                                 There was some Pyrex sightings....

More Pyrex? Yes siree bob!

Overpriced scrappy blowmolds

Fabulous glassware and

and amazing barware?

Well I was in Maine for a long weekend.

It was beautiful and restorative as usual.

It is was my soul needed.

I didn't buy anything in the pictures.

Nothing , nada. I did find some cool stuff but I can't seem to find it.

We arrived late on Tuesday night, I worked Wednesday and we are still not unpacked!

Oh well, things to do on the weekend!

Retro Tuesday: START THE CAR!!! START THE CAR!!!

This is an in between weeks in Maine find. I had come to Montreal for some R&R; which in my case includes: walking, walking, still more walking, thrifting, walking, thrifting, food, more walking and more thrifting.

I'm starting to believe that the Pyrex craze is starting to catch up in Montreal because Pyrex is harder to find!
So I'm hitting the thrifts, minding my own business, when I see a store I passed many times over the years but have never visited...

I go in and it is strangely clean, I kidd you not.And I see there's another room, I can spy some goodies through the door but it's locked. I ask if I can go in. The owner says sure, I'll unlock the door.
Ok I pause here to give my 2 cents: Antique shop owners are ALWAYS characters! Not in a bad sense but definitely colorful!

So by now I feel feverish, don't know why I didn't see any Pyrex! And I tripp over my feet as I enter. A voice SCREAMS in my head: DON'T BREAK ANYTHING!!! And then I see it!

OMG could it be? I come closer. Yes by jove I think it is! I look at the price; a steal for this! I must know for sure!

Is it 15$ each or for the pair??? I ask candidly...For the pair; answers the colorful seller.OMG! I'm having difficulty swallowing! MUST BUY!MUST BUY! TOTAL GLASSWARE OVERLOAD!
I grab them and run to the cash. The dealer has trouble keeping up with me. He asks: Are you in the movies?

Uh? no, why? It's only movie people who buys these when they build sets like vintage kitchens.

At that point he was wrapping my precious find, and not fast enough! I just wanted to scream: SHUT UP! WRAP FASTER! DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND I HAVE TO START THE CAR AND RUN AWAY BEFORE YOU REALISE YOU DIDN'T CHARGE ME ENOUGH!

FASTER!
FASTER!

Must run away with my FireKing Range Salt and Pepper Tulips Shakers!

They look gorgeous in my kitchen! I was never a big fan of FireKing but I was longing for some shakers for quite a while now!

There is a bit of corrosion on the salt shaker lid but I don't mind.

And to think that they sell between 80 to 120$

This girl spent her money wisely!

I don't think my pal Tracy will be doing the Retro Tuesday thing but just in case drop by and say hi!

Tell her I sent you :)
