High Hopes

Early this morning we headed west to Ontario for a wee roadtrip.

We needed a change of scenery.

We were heading to Cornwall, Ontario for some thrifting, sightseeing and lunch.

And I had a big bag of clothes and bed sheets to donate.

Our first stop was Value Village...

I saw this lonely and sad 441 Pyrex bowl.
I could not see if it had a pattern!

This Pyrex look a like casserole was in fact a Corning Ware casserole.

Seeing a huge throw made out of Phentex really brought me back to the 70's.

What a strange fiber. It was rough, heavy yet warm and melted really well in the oven!

How do I know?

When I was 5 or 6, the building next to our apartment was demolished,
leaving a thinner wall and the wind would freeze it right up.

My Mom would turn on the oven and leave the door open and we would sit
in front of it. She would put her feet up in her Phentex slippers and she melted quite a few pairs....

Blast from the past!

Do you have Phentex anecdotes?

Out with the old

Good morning to all,

here I am in my living room waiting for the oven installer to come knocking.

They said between 8:30 and 12:30.....

Here are some pictures of the old Roy oven.

Here's the door

The oven out of its nest

 And the nest in question.

Now just as the pics were downloading, the oven
tech showed up!

Guess what?

The oven is too small (???) and Dan will have to install a contraption so
they can install the oven...Dad we're coming over for supper!

Size DOES matter lol

!"/$%?&*() not happy!

And then the door fell!

I had quite the weekend filled with stress and panic, fear, tears...You name it.

It began with a health scare while at the hairdresser and a ride to the hospital in ambulance....

But don't worry, everything came back negative! But we did spend 12 hours in the emergency room while they were making sure Dan was A-Okay.

Thank god I had my trusty aluminium .lunch box containing snacks....But it wasn't enough.

This was my dinner:

2 baby bell cheeses, 1 pack of Melba toast and 2 soda crackers....
Needless to say I am sooo tired I felt like a zombie at the office today...

Yesterday afternoon, I had chicken thighs in the oven...

This is my 1980 Roy oven.
So yesterday afternoon I opened the door
and immediately knew something was not right....
The door just gave out, I was holding it with my oven mitts

As you can see, we know have bricks and a melamine plank holding it.
And I will not be using it anymore.

My Dad said it had been a good oven and had given all he could and it was time to take it to pasture....
So I am now shopping for a new one....

I'll keep you posted.

Be well!

I hate ceramic cooktops......

Well okay HATE is a BIG word!

They really annoy me. For some reason I can't sem to keep thm clean.

I feel buying a range with a ceramic cooktop was a mistake.

You boil water and the cooktop is grungy. !"/$%?&*(!!!

I don't believe in buying $20.00 cleaners for the cooktop....

I found the Vileda Ceramic Scrunge for around $4.00....and they are good for a lot of times.

But not quite up to par....you need the extra touch...

The extra touch is Barkeeper's Friend!!!!

You wet the cooktop, sprinkle some BKF make a paste (add water if needed)

Let dry and scrub, rinse, rinse, rinse (not more then with regular ceramic top cleaner)

And it is really beautyful and squeaky clean !!!

Time to go....We just started watching Downtown Abbey .....Must watch more!!!

Chandelier

It is by no means grand but it looks great in the bathroom....

This morning I've been scoping out crystals on Etsy....

Here it is!

It was the pic I could get with the bathroom's poor lighting.

And we installed the new kitchen fan and in a calm and orderly fashion!
No yelling!

All shinny and bright. I think it will actually make a difference when I cook.

This my new cooking buddy.
My old one went to the big appliance heaven in late September.

It is the oven that died and since I didn't want to have it repaired (again)....
Off to the store we went.
Yes there was the really basic white like I had with coils....but it wasn't really cheaper than the one with the flat top.
And one exactly like the one in the picture but with coils was only $20 less.
It is really hard to keep clean, but I definitely LOVE all the bells and whistles on it.
The timer, the bip when it's ready, the keep warm zone, the expendable element, the auto clean feature, but I have to admit that one scares me....

Well I'm off to fawn over the fan....lol!
