VTT: My first Pyrex

And a glorious VTT to you! Today I'd like to talk about my first Pyrex. The first one I saw. It was a familiar sight; that big green bowl. My mom would use it to mix ingredients or to bake. I always liked the color. I recall seeing the smallest one also, the blue but it broke. My mom was pretty hard with kitchenware!
It misses little chipits of paint all over and has some wear inside. I don't remember when exactly she gave it to me but it's been more than 20 years. I would use it quite often but didn't know it was a Pyrex! A couple of years ago 2005 I think, my friend Patrice showed me a set of Primary Pyrex bowls in eBay and like a bolt of lightning it was love at first sight with a tinge of deja vu! And I screamed: I have the green bowl!!!

The die were cast! I started obssessing on finding the missing pieces....The first one I found was the biggest one,the yellow 404. I found it in a flea market in Maine on vacation. The next year in Oxford, Maine I found the size under, but I got mixed up! I found it in blue and it really belonged to another set (Horizons). I was so sure the smallest one was red and the blue was next but it was the other way around! Oh well!

I finally found the right one in a Pierrefonds, Quebec fleamarket (opened year round)! I was on cloud ine a couple of days after that!

The last to be found was the cute little one. I had seen it in a couple of fleas but it was really expensive! I wanted a cheaper one! I found it on eBay. It came from Maine also. In my opinion Maine is like a great big Pyrex mine! LOL

So here they are reunited at last!

Your pyrex bowls are lovely. It is great that your mom started your set with one lonely bowl. Through perseverance you were able to complete the set. Very pretty colours.

That is so much fun :) To hear the story... to find out where your sickness... I mean love of pyrex started!

Oh Yes!!! There is nothing better than Pyrex and FireKing vintage dishes. I have a couple of bowls, but not a full set. Also love the pyrex rectangle pieces with lids. They are great in the oven and microwave, and just like yesteryear...they go from Frig to Oven or Microwave. I recently read where the new pyrex is made in China and they have changed the glass composition....the result....exploding pyrex in the oven and as you take it out and it hits the cooler air. Sure makes you happy to have USA made before the 1970's Pyrex.

That is flippin' awesome! I saw some Pyrex bowls at Goodwill this week (rusty orange with a wheat pattern). I left them there, lest I become obsessed with yet another collection. I do have a few nice pieces though. Like you, Pyrex just speaks to me! Nice that I can admire it here from afar.

Great Pyrex...I have a vintage set that I found at a farm auction a few years back...the same cinderella bowls that my Mom has had since she married in the 1950's. I LOVE them :)

Blessings!

Oh your pyrex reminds me of my late mom. She had the green one and only the green one that I can recall. I have to keep an eye out for pyrex.

Thank you for coming by my blog and informing me that I had purcased bun warmers lol. You have no idea how irritating it was to me to know nothing about it.

Love your old green pyrex bowl! And so glad you were able to find the rest of the set. I had to laugh at your description of Maine.

It amazes me that we can remember where we picked up our little prizes yet can't remember what we did yestereday. Does that happen to you?

Those bowls make a very colorful display. I love Pyrex, but I prefer to use lighter weight unbreakable mixing bowls.

Mom had a set just like that! I didn't realize it was pyrex, though - we just called them mixing bowls!!! Good to see them all together once more....

Love that you found all the right colors. I think my Mom has a set of Pyrex bowels I was given in 1969 and when I go to see her next month I'm going to retrieve them. She doesn't use them anymore and they need to come home with me!!

Ahh, Pyrex colour... I had the same flood of memories of my Mom's kitchen after spotting a richly coloured avocado Crazy Daisy mixing bowl. That was the start of an unhealthy obsession with pyrex!

My mom had a set of bowls like that, but I thought the red was the biggest in her set.

You have a really nice set of the Pyrex bowls. The ones in antique malls around her are very expensive.

How lucky you found the pieces and have the whole set. I would love to have a set of these, but they are always so darn expensive! Have a great VTT!

Your set is super cool! I have a large pink pyrex bowl - I made pasta salad in it just today. I didn't know they came in sets with different colors. Now I'll need to start looking to complete my own set.

That is so awesome! My mom's green bowls were avocado green and a bit darker than yours.

I have a bit of a Pyrex collection too and that I'm going to de-stash. I love it but I don't have room the for it, and these are pieces I don't use. I decided that I'm going to focus on only the Gooseberry pattern from here on out, as it is my favorite.

Exciting little story about the pretty bowl collection.

How fun to have the whole set!

I have the green one!! My mom came across it at a thrift store a couple years ago and got it for me. She said her mother (or maybe it was her grandmother) had one like it, and she thought it was part of a set, each a different color. So now I know she was right!
