Sunday

Don't you love Sunday?

I DO!

I get to visit with Joel Olsteen, veg out, hang out with the cats, cook and watch movies on TV.

Today I I tried a new breakfast recipe...for Canadian Farmhouse Eggs

It was a delicious mix of egg, potato, ham salsa and chili sauce

                                             Here's the link HERE
Now of course I changed the the recipe: I used ham instead of canadian bacon, I mixed salsa with chili sauce (because I was certain the recipe called for salsa) and one egg per casserole instead of 2. It was delicious!

Now from the thrift store....Can you believe this Tupperware container without a lid.....

                                                    For this price????

                Ok last but not least....
This is a seen around picture

This poor chap didn't have a chance!

Now i've been thinking and talking about Halloween lately....
I remember when I was a kid, you just had to have a carved pumpkin with a candle and you
were in business.
My mom would hand out: Peanuts in the shell, molasses taffy, bubble gum, rockets and lollipops.

Individual chocolate bars were virtually unheard of....You had to go in the really rich neighborhoods to get these....

Today I read that in North America we spend 6.1 BILLIONS in Halloween candy!

Isn't that crazy???

And kids are going hungry

Go figure

It makes me sad

Thrifting and Thifty dining

Hello! I've missed posting for the last few days and haven't done so because of my Iphone issues and more recently camera issues....

Well I'm happy to say that they are all fixed!

I usually only thrift once a week (much to my chagrin) and winter the finds are few and far apart.

Last thrusday I was blessed with these 2 finds....

A lovely carafe with oranges and a lab glass piece disguised as a vase/carafe I'm not sure what. But it is in the book. The decor was added by the Handcraft Novelty co in Brooklyn N.Y. There is a tag inside the bottle neck.

I believe that you can never have too many of these carafes! LOL

Now for the thridty dining. I had secured reservations to the Le Saucier , it is the dining room of a cooking school in Lasalle. People actually fight for those! Last thrusday was breakfast at supper.

We started with yogurt with citrus and a fresh fruit salad

Both were delicious and very fresh. We were also served fresh cranberry scones and cinnamon corn bread.

And then the kitchen fell in the weeds! See all that Food Network watching is very useful.
And we waited and waited got another round of scones and waited some more.

By the time our breakfast mains arrived we were like 2 zombies spotting some fresh brains!
So of course I forgot to take pictures!

I had a very light smoked salmon omelette with sausages and Dan had crepes with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and bacon. Totally decadent!

Top that with all you can drink coffee...what a meal!

And all that for $5 plus tax is that a deal or what! Talk about thrifty!

Well I'm off to shovel some snow because we had about 8 inches which is a lot less than my friends in Maine who got a whooping 29 inches!

Delusions of Bobby Flay

On Sunday mornings at 10 on Food Network Canada we always try to watch  Bobby Flays BBQ Addiction.

I'm always awed with the ease he cuts an onion that I don't see in other Food Network chefs and heck he can throw anything on the grill and it looks good!

He's the one who inspired Dan in buying the smoker...Bobby Flays makes me believe I can do anything on the grill and once in a while I decide.....

Like this morning to cook breakfast outside!

Eggs and potatoes

Now the bacon is already on a cookie sheet on the grill...

Potatoes

Eggs...

Halfway through I always wonder what cockemanie idea I had because I don't have Bobby's grace and confidence.

But I was delicious nevertheless!

I'm sure you noticed the Butterprint casserole....LOL

I wish you a great week :)
