Out thrifting....

I haven't been thrifting in a long time...I would like to say forever, but that is just not true

Saturday we decided to go on a road trip...first Lake Placid...changed our minds because of weather and politics....

then we opted for Cornwall, Ontario and then i saw the weather update...not good a foot of snow or more...

so that is when we opted for Valleyfield, Qc.....My Dad lived there as a child, we had a VR there for some years and it is still an area we enjoy...

First off here some things I left....

I was tempted by the fondue plates...
I have been craving cheese fondue and chinese fondue...

Nice Corelle teapots plus a Pyrex coffee pot

I had never seen plastic Cinderella bowls...Unknown maker.

Those kitties were a hoot but too expensive at $10 each....

The 4 bowls were $20. A good price but I already have them..

These are the goodies that came home with me....

A large Fireking Jadeite bowl, a stainless steel tissue box cover,
a vintage S&P set (corn) , a vintage tin and a big beer glass.

The shakers were .50 the pair, the tissue box cover was $5 (great because retail they
sell for $30-$35), the tin and the glass were free....
My biggest find was the bowl!
That dealer had no idea what that was and he let me have it for
$5. Yes $5!!!! WOOT!

I'm keeping the bowl for the time being....

Here's a close up from the tin....

It felt really good to go for a car ride, to thrift, to hang out....
NICE!

Till next time!

Refreshing

This morning it is raining and barely 12C or 54F. It is cold!

Last Saturday we got temperatures of 36C or 97F! We were melting and we had lots to do in the yard; still do but more on that later...

We had to have continuous hydration to keep up, so I came up with this

A nice Pyrex carafe with sliced lemons and crushed fresh mint.

Delicious! It totally hit he spot
and was a nice change because plain water is delicious but...
a bit bland!

We are waiting for a big wood delivery....
more on that later!

Thrifting and Thifty dining

Hello! I've missed posting for the last few days and haven't done so because of my Iphone issues and more recently camera issues....

Well I'm happy to say that they are all fixed!

I usually only thrift once a week (much to my chagrin) and winter the finds are few and far apart.

Last thrusday I was blessed with these 2 finds....

A lovely carafe with oranges and a lab glass piece disguised as a vase/carafe I'm not sure what. But it is in the book. The decor was added by the Handcraft Novelty co in Brooklyn N.Y. There is a tag inside the bottle neck.

I believe that you can never have too many of these carafes! LOL

Now for the thridty dining. I had secured reservations to the Le Saucier , it is the dining room of a cooking school in Lasalle. People actually fight for those! Last thrusday was breakfast at supper.

We started with yogurt with citrus and a fresh fruit salad

Both were delicious and very fresh. We were also served fresh cranberry scones and cinnamon corn bread.

And then the kitchen fell in the weeds! See all that Food Network watching is very useful.
And we waited and waited got another round of scones and waited some more.

By the time our breakfast mains arrived we were like 2 zombies spotting some fresh brains!
So of course I forgot to take pictures!

I had a very light smoked salmon omelette with sausages and Dan had crepes with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and bacon. Totally decadent!

Top that with all you can drink coffee...what a meal!

And all that for $5 plus tax is that a deal or what! Talk about thrifty!

Well I'm off to shovel some snow because we had about 8 inches which is a lot less than my friends in Maine who got a whooping 29 inches!

Thrifted!

I found this asian treasure at Renaissance last week...

A french carafe with tiny glasses, 6 of them!

Look at that cool/tacky design!
Because we all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

This will go in the store...

Second of all, I'm sure you remember the flea market I visited last week?

Yes I'm about to uncover the location, I'm sorry I didn't before, this was really greedy on my part.

The super cool flea market is the St-Michel Flea market, corner of St-Michel and Cremazy.

Please leave the ice cream cone, please, please pretty please...

Speaking of the ice cream cone from the flea market...Dan is worried I'll bring it home, Dad is sure I'll bring it home and if the price is right I WILL BRING IT HOME YES I WILL!

this is the cassoulet, our supper tonight, just before a trip in the oven.

Well the verdict is in and it was delicious! Hearty, stick to your ribs delicious!

Dan keeps going on about the sausages and the beans!

Have a nice night.

Sunshiny Thrifty Finds

10 years ago, no make that 7 years ago I would have never looked twice at anything orange, or brown for that matter.

I'm a child of the 60's and my super thrifty mom would transform my dad's sweaters in outfits for me...brown,brown and more brown!

My aunt (the one that yelled at me about the will) crocheted a spider web sweater for me in brown, orange and yellow and it haunted me for years...

So now I love orange! Don't love brown yet but I'm getting there....

So here are my latest orangey finds!

A Seashore Trolley Museum Federal Glass mug

This brings back memories of my summer in Maine as a child with my parents.

I got this in Hudson last saturday at the street fair.

Dan and I reached for it at the same time. This is barely used and will look fab in my house.
BTW we are already filling it with iced water!
And the best part is that it was made in Montreal, sweet!

I love my beautiful orange thermos carafe!

And last but not least....and not orange but to die for nevertheless....

No this is not the franciscans stuff, to me it's even better!

It is made in France! OOOOOHHHH LALA!
It is called 'Les Étoiles' (the stars) and manufactured by Les Faienceries Continentales.

It came from the Salvation Army. Beautiful!

Well that's it for now.
