Life goes on

Saturday we brought back the wheelchair as it is no longer needed.

that feels so good! We can move one from there, a new chapter begins.....

That took a big old five minute from my life!

i gently coaxed Veronica (my stepdaughter) to stop at a thrift store nearby...

And I am so glad I did!

By chance I found 3 things I love......

A car throw...100% wool and in great condition!
I very rarely turn down good condition blankets and throws.
They are always handy when you live in an old house in a cold climate!

 If you've been following
the blog for a while you might remember that I had an Etsy
shop and that I sold quite a few Le creuset snail dishes...
I have regretted this for a llllllooooooooonnnnnngggg time!
So I was super excited to find one for a dollar....I am sure I will find 3 other fairly soon.

so since I have being jonesing for snails with garlic butter I bought 4
stainless steel dishes for a dollar

It even says Le Creuset!

Last but not least as seen in the first picture, a Old Orchard Beach souvenir glass!
It is so tackylicious and I had to get it a total no brainer...
I got no flack from the boo because they are small items and Barware is always a go...
I am not the only one jonesing for some snails.....

On a more somber note....

yesterday January 28th marked the second anniversary of my Dad's death.
I had a long talk with him.
I miss him everyday and talk to him most everyday. The big heavy duty sadness is mostly gone, but I had an episode in late December.
What I do now is whatever thing I am doing that my Dad would enjoy...I think about him, or I chat with him.

So this is the beginning of my first year as a homeowner in Montreal.
I got my first municipal tax invoice today. Made calculations so we can pay them on time.
as much as I did not want to be a homeowner again....God decided otherwise and I will do my very best to honor him.

I am very excited as we made plans to paint and renovate (cheaply) one room at a time!

My faithful readers, take time to enjoy each day
and hang out with your loved one

Update

Last week I went to a garage sale one street over and found a couple of treasures....

Someone on Facebook wrote that it all looked so Canadian!
Really?

We have been boxing up the green room books....
they should be GONE by the end of the month....

I can almost feel the empty room.
When all the boxes go, I will lie on the floor and make
dirt angels!
on the shelves now are the 10,000 dads that no one wants either.....

collectors, hoarders beware of the worry and grief you will leave
your kids when you die!

I also worked in the cookbook room and cleaned out 2 shelves. we would've brought them
to the charity shop but it was raining again.....

Have a great night!

It happens

Everyday I want to post, everyday I get sucked in the Facebook Group Pyrex and All Things Vintage....

God oh God, this is sooooo addictive!

Here in Quebec, winter is still here.....Spring seems to be very shy!

That's a picture of the yard on Friday night.

Here Meghan is make sure everything is secure outside....
such a sweet soul.

I have started exercising regularly. We have a great opportunity at work to take yoga classes 3 times a week for a really, really good price.
so I have been taking advantage of that. 3 days , 3 teachers 3 different styles...and I love it!

I also found out that I have 8 classes left from a package I paid for in November....Yay!

So last Thursday I took a stretching class and That was wonderful as well. I didn't sweat too much!

I have been big batch cooking too. Last weekend we, yes WE made 120 pork dumplings....
It was super fun and delicious!

Unfortunately the pictures I took yesterday for this post haven't downloaded yet....so I will finish this
tomorrow...I hope!

Finally! a picture of my tamale making session....

It was really hard work, but very delicious!

I froze a bunch!

Today I went driving.....for 2 hours. Still on my learner's permit at 51 !
I feel this is the right time, I am very confident and the driving is quite smooth.

I donated 2 boxes of cookbooks and didn't bring anything back...
That is always a plus....

Still working on my giveaway prizes,
yes there will be more than one!

Stay safe and keep on thrifting!

Seen around....

oh my! This is my first seen around post of 2016!

We went to Plattsburg, NY last Saturday as a wee roadtrip. i needed a change SO BAD!

I was well prepared and Dan was super relaxed and opened to the thrift. Before lunch I visited 2 thrifts without sucess. But that doesn't mean I didn't see cool stuff!

Where have you seen a chopped liver dish ? It was a first for me

A cool casserole rack

A schmogasborg of Pyrex!!!

a nice Old Orchard in box....

Yellow gooseberry

A HostessSet! Wow

´
To tell you the truth....if i had a stall in a flea market
It would look like that!!!

Thank you all for bearing with me while I learn about blogging with a tablet
i' m hoping to either figure out what is wrong with my laptop or getting an
                                          New one.

Be well and stay thrifty !

Just no luck

While vacationning in New England , we took Newhampshire's route 4 AKA Antique Alley.

The way I had read about it was...that there was an avanlanche, no an ORGY of flea markets and antique malls......

And I couldn't wait to visit.....

We only stopped at 1 mall, mall is stretching the truth, even gilding the lily....The mall was okay, but it was regular sized, and kinda of boring.

Let's face it I prefer utilitarian objects from the turn of the century up until the 70's, the place didn't have a lot...

Mostly tchatskies....and ornate victorian knickknacks.....

We passed on half a dozen of Antique and Gift shops.....which are even less my thing....and they are the same shops I LOOOOVED when I was a child.

But not this time. So that was it for UN Antique Alley!

I also visited 3 other thrifts....

I wanted to bring this red Dansk baking dish home with me
but it had a big ding on the other side

This thrift shop is in York, Maine
it is spotless and full of treasures...
I don't really get the mushrooms motif but it is fitting if you live
near the forrest!

 not appetizing....

 One of my classic's

I did spot this Pyrex bottle

But somehow my heart was not in it....
I also visited the Portsmouth, NH Goodwill.
I did not bother to take pictures....
I was pretty bummed out!

But my frown was turned into a big ol'smile with
this big bowl of Goldenrod's clam chowder!

So delicious!

5 frugal things

So we are still getting our groove on, unpacking, recycling, giving to thrifts.....

I have been reading blogs too. One of my new favorite is The non consumer advocate. Every week she posts 5 frugal things...

1-Today we brought 10 bags full of packing materials to the curb for recycling and 6 bundles of flattened cardboard boxes.
2-I baked healthful gluten free apple muffins from scratch to use the free apples I got from my work last week.
3-I air dried my laundry
4-I packed our lunches from stuff in the fridge (leftovers)
5-I used public transport and I walked!

6- I also made a tomato sauce form scratch for the freezer.

I have yet to visit a thrift store....but it is just a matter of days.....

Stay cool and rested!

Going on

I am sorry for the lack of posts. Things have been emotional here in the house made of Pyrex.....

Besides the move, Bob's passing, we lost a friend who fought a long and hard battle against cancer. She was , no is a light and always will be. I rarely saw someone who lived life with so much passion.

Bandito has been throwing up more than usual and there was some blood. Thank God that was just a scare for the time being. It was fixed with some hair ball remedy.

On the positive side we are on vacation and are taking the opportunity to show this move who is boss and get organized.

So far so good. Of course we are squeezing in so R&R...We saw Jurrasic World in 3D, I loved it! Being transported to a different place, with lots of action to boot....SWEET!

We made a lot of headway in the basement and will be ready for the next big garbage.

Today we roadtripped to the west....We ended up in Lachute, QC where Tuesday means Flea Market...

I am not sure but I think this is an alternate Pyrex Primary
bowl set. I didn't ask the price....

This seller had the most beautiful dahlias and tomatoes

Back in Cornwall, I spied some Forest Fancies at the local VV
                                                    Pyrex sisters hanging out.....

This trivet made me nostalgic for Italy

Last time I was there was 1975. It was amazing and
I can't wait to go back.

Keep on smiling!
(I really need that!)

Thrifting

2014 was the suckyest thrifting year for little old me. There were no BIG finds and in a way that is fine since I decided to put the store on hiatus.
But I love a day where all the thrifting stars align and you find good stuff! You just need to appear and pouf! Thrifting magic!
So that’s just what happened on Saturday….We took a small roadtrip to drop a box of donation at the Value Village in Cornwall and cross the bridge for some U.S. groceries….
But our first stop was Michael’s for a Xmas Peanuts flag…I lost mine to a windstorm 2 christmasses ago….I have no idea why they don’t carry seasonal flags , they have Friends and Welcome but no Christmassy joy (SUPER DOUBLE BUMMER)
So back in the car and on to Value Village…I drop my box and went in not expecting much…There was a lot of gooood stuff
But especially a vintage Xmas tree stand new in a box from Zellers. We had the same one , until it rusted out and died and we bought a big ass Xmas tree stand that is super ugly nut the tree never tips over…My step daughter wanted one for a small tree and the price was right at $2.00 ($3.99 minus 50% off).
I also grabbed one of those mixed bags for $1.99 and I was thrilled to find this mini pitcher (creamer) that had been on my thrift bucket list for many years, ever since I bought its big bro in a church basement in Moncton NB…That takes us back to 1988 !
There were 2 other knickknacks that will re-enter the wheel of thrifting pretty soon….

We also stopped at the Salvation Army and I wa lucky enough to find this
Vintage exterior light set , new in the box for $2.00

I will use it to replace one of my sets that is cracking under the weather strain.

Last but certainl not least...
This is a blowmold vignette that Dan set up for me.

It fills me up with JOY!!!

I'm off to watch TV because I need to get off my feet. I just came out of
a Xmas cooking marathon! I made cranberry orange bread, cranberry fudge, mini cheese balls and Pfeffernusse dough (I will bake the cookies tomorrow as they taste better the same day).

Tomorrow I will cook the turkey, stuffing and Monte Carlo potatoes....Good times!

What I left behind

So these are some of the pictures of the teasures I left behind on Saturday:

This was a sweet fondue pot but I already have one.

Even if I am the crazzy cat lady; I'm not sure I like those enough and I have the teapot in the shop and it is not moving...
Why is Value Village a cemetary of old microwave glass platers? Please tell me, I need to know!

This one was hard to leave behind because I have magical memories of my vacation in Nantucket!
And I am a sucker for vacation souvenirs....

                                A Fireking Primerose casserole

                                Some JAJ Pyrex casseroles

A cool warmer tray. I must get one, one of these days!

A Halloween blowmold, it was not a Xmas blowmold, that's why I left it there!!!
A cool avocado green shoulder bag. Now I really wanted to get this bag
but there was something wrong with the shoulder strap, so I left it there

Well that's it folks! Today is another scrocher in the Montreal area and my pool is still not READY! AAAGGGHHH! Soon I'm hoping :)
