Life is pretty good right now.

I try my very best to do everything right at work, 

to cook light, healthy and low salt....

But I must confess...it is not always a success...

last night I cooked a supper that tasted of nothing even if I put effort in it!

OH WELL! LOL

I did not bring it home

 Found a new friend for my pink friend....

The pink one is vintage. The green one came originally from 

the dollarsatore was priced at $1.50...the sticker was on the bottom

but I got her at Goodwill (Renaissance) for 75 cents

so a win for me!

So this picture I did not bother turning because sometimes a girl

is just tired....

This is a mold/casserole that I found in one of my Dad's crate

Someone identified it on Facebook but I forgot the name...

I am in a weird place mentally...I don't know why or how

So I discovered that I have a set amount of personal web time..meaning that if i spend all my
time checking out everybody's finds on Facebook then I have no energy to share on Blogger....

we are purging slowly but surely....

Purging is really hard under normal circumstances but associated with grief....Ay caramba!

I saw this at Quebec Goodwill (Renaissance)

and believe it or not I won the exact same plate on a sale blitz

at work about 22 years ago....

This is the crystal chandelier in my stepdaughter's apartment.

I just realized that is so overdue for a good clean....rats!

This will be a project for a long weekend!

I love posting about interesting things I see while on the road.

Our latest road trip took us to Kingston, Ontario.

Once the capital of the Province of Canada....for just a short time . It remains an important military installation.

The old town (downtown ) is just lovely, quaint and great for unique shopping.

Here are things I saw  there, on the way there and on my way back.

over the sink in the summer kitchen attached to her RV!

I bought a tiny gift for Dan, but it is still a secret!

Just no luck

While vacationning in New England , we took Newhampshire's route 4 AKA Antique Alley.

The way I had read about it was...that there was an avanlanche, no an ORGY of flea markets and antique malls......

And I couldn't wait to visit.....

We only stopped at 1 mall, mall is stretching the truth, even gilding the lily....The mall was okay, but it was regular sized, and kinda of boring.

Let's face it I prefer utilitarian objects from the turn of the century up until the 70's, the place didn't have a lot...

Mostly tchatskies....and ornate victorian knickknacks.....

We passed on half a dozen of Antique and Gift shops.....which are even less my thing....and they are the same shops I LOOOOVED when I was a child.

But not this time. So that was it for UN Antique Alley!

I also visited 3 other thrifts....

                                          I wanted to bring this red Dansk baking dish home with me

but it had a big ding on the other side

 This thrift shop is in York, Maine

it is spotless and full of treasures...

 I don't really get the mushrooms motif but it is fitting if you live

near the forrest!

 I did spot this Pyrex bottle

 But somehow my heart was not in it....

I also visited the Portsmouth, NH Goodwill.

I did not bother to take pictures....

I was pretty bummed out!

But my frown was turned into a big ol'smile with

this big bowl of Goldenrod's clam chowder!

So yesterday we took a car load of treasures to Brockville, Ontario.

I know, I know we have thrifts in Quebec, but for the most part I think volunteers don't know anything about vintage and throw stuff away if it is not new enough. I heard : Throw it out it's junk! more than once in the last few months....

Which might explain why my garage sale didn't go so well....

I had made the promise not to buy stuff unless it was A MUST! A Pyrex I've been looking for or something we need...But I took pictures....

 A beer cap wising well....wat floors me is not that someone drank all that beer....but that person had the vision to keep them all and build an ugly ass wishing well!

 But it was all made from Molson Canadian beer caps! How patriotic!

 As you might know, I have a HUGE vintage astray addiction....And I am a non-smoker (go figure).But
this one gave me the wheelies....It looked like a sci-fi  creature....
 

 Tis I really liked and nearly dragged home...Miss V take a deep breath and remember the promise....

  I also like tacky travel souvenirs and what better than this tacky tray from the Notre Dame de Lourdes
sanctuary in Rigaud, Quebec....It is near my house!

  That bowl was unmarked but really sad looking....so I will give it its 2 minutes of fame....

 I really like this fondue kit, all bright, orange and vintage....and quite a steal at $4.99! The promise, the PROMISE!

 A sweet Fireking casserole waiting for a home....Now even if I am not a huge fan of Fireking I love this pattern...

I like the look of a vintage globe I find that the $24.99  price tag was ridiculous!

We had great fun and a great day and can't wait to pack more boxes!

Thrifty finds

As much as thrifting was meh in Maine I managed to score some things.....

Like these!

Now I always find it funny how people buy souvenirs on trips and then eventually dump then at the Goodwill...The cashier found it pretty ironic that I would buy souvenirs from Canada in Maine, being from Canada.

Let's just say that our hosts didn't find the same beauty in those than I did.

And those heart stopping beauties...

I was really proud to show them off to my Dad! He actually gasped!

I guess they were a bit too much for him.

Then I showed them to Dan...And I just got a YIKES!

I answered: They are for the dining room, you're always complaining that we need a pop of color!

Here it is!

Now I just need to find some candlesticks to fit those!

Gotta go! Masterchef is beginning and they will start to fight with sea urchins...

Oh my thrifty finds!

I took the day off and since Dan was on vacation we decided to go on the first thrifting road trip of 2012.

So we packed some snacks and a Tim Horton's gift card and headed west to Ontario. I must admit thrifting was not the first reason to make this day trip. The real reason was to reach Gananoque and scraf some BBQ brisket at the Pig Iron.

 It's soooo good and comforting, so homey and everything is homemade. The bread, the meat, the tangy cole slaw, the creamy potato salad, the lemonade, the sweet tea....Truly finger licking good. The owner ever remembered that we had come in September of last year. Oh I forgot the the horseradish sauce that tops the brisket....every time I eat this sandwhich I cry little tears of joy!

On the far right is the Pig Iron BBQ restaurant and on the left you have the Socialist Pig coffee shop. It is situated on King street in historical Gananoque just feet away from a plaque commemorating the Raid on Gananoque during the war of 1812. The American soldiers sure did try very hard to invade the northern shores of the St-Lawrence seaway! You can see plaques in every village bordering the great river.

After a deliciously satsfying lunch we made our way to Brockville, Ontario (I won't bother you with the plaques, the war of 1812 or assorted battles).

King street has amazing historical buildings but at a certain point it becomes more down and out, crusty and sad (read thrifty). There is this really sad Salvation Army store that Dan hates....but I always insist on going....never found anything until yesterday!

Actually the well trained by moi eye of Dan spotted this....

Hum dirty! And fuzzy lol

Dam perfomed some charm magic and the nice lady said the price was .50 cents.

No I don't need a bag. RUN RUN RUN before she realised she made a mistake!

I also found this in a curiosity/antique store still on King Street

   I always long for vintage cheap tins but I always

find them crazy expensive. So since the price was right I brought it home with me!

There are no Goodwills in Quebec so I'm always excited to visit one especially on 50% off day!

I found this cutie hiding behind an ugly baking dish....

It is dainty and small and a really cute example of  english Pyrex!

Next thing we knew the sun was setting and it was time to go home!

That was a wonderfully fantastic day and really therapeutic too.

I hope to do that again real soon, Dan is the BEST thrifting companion.

With luck i'll be back tomorow to show the Pyrex I left.....

WEEKEND! HEEEEEEEHAAAWWWWW!

Ok so I wanted to have a lenghty post on times changing and the end of another era.....well that is for another time!

I want to shout from the top of my lungs that HALLELUYAH THE WEEKEND IS HERE!

I know, I know, I've already posted about the unrest at my workplace but I can't resist an update! Well , it's not really an update....

This is the company that told me I would get a permanent job by September for sure....NOT HAPPENING!

I'm still happy to get up in the morning and still thrilled to handle cheques and assorted payments, however I'm not feeling the love from my boss and I don't think they will renew my contract.

In a twisted way I think my boss is blaming me because the training was crappy; like I didn't learn fast enough. But really what is there to learn when they don't teach you anything or when they do it's so fast you don't even know what hits you so you can't ask questions your brain can't process it fast enough!

So now for a change of pace! No nudie bar or chip wagon or asian joint....

Really this is Roadtrip time....time to relax, thrift,nibble, thrift, relax, drink coffee, thrift some more, have a cocktail, supper and thrift some more!

This is what I chose for my B-Day gift to go on a road trip to Kingston, Ont! The road is so lovely, we take the old hihway most of the way.
The views of the St-Lawrence nd the Seaway are breathtaking and littered with little thrifts. And Chip Wagons....you can always get a snack in western Ontario.

It's the second place (besides New England) that I've fallen in love with. I just need to visit Cornwall, Iroquois, Brockville, Gananoque and all the litle places in between!

That sign is so cool, vintage and not politically correct at the same time!

That is probably the smallest bar in Ontario!

This Chip Wagon is in Brockville, Ont. Just so you know, it's pre-molded patties with crap in it not real meat!

STAY AWAY!

But these beauties are docked in Kingston! I can't wait to see them!

I might just get some of these.....If I'm lucky!

I wish! I can't wait to see what we dig up!

All Shopped OUT? NO WAY!

Today was way too cold for a dip ( I find I'm either too hot or too cold) so we headed north for some shopping.

We needed sneakers and affordable sneakers because in Montreal good quality sneakers are at least 120$ and up. So we were able to buy 2 pairs  for the price of 1 SWEET!

We stopped at Marshall's, it was our first visit but certainly not our last! I found some really cute leopard flats (aerosoles) for a bargain....

And on the way to Portsmouth we spotted a thrift shop! SAY WHAT? STOP THE CAR! Holly Pyrex!

I found a nice Early American 045 with lid for a song! And a paper back because I don't bring my ebook on the beach...no way jose!

More on Portsmouth in another post...Signs of the times...I guess.

Over in Kittery, one of Maine's outlet shopping mecca....well let's face it; we always go to the same places....Crate and Barrel, Yankee Candle....and usually Bass shoes but not this time. No Bass shoes, until next time.

I totally freaked out in Yankee candle because of the Samps & Tarts Palooza! All samps and tarts a buck each! We were siffing for what seemed for ever! I was able to fill one of their sample trays (12). And we even got a free preview winter smell votive.

We stopped for lunch at Bob's Clam Hut (it was featured in triple D and we visited in February 2011). the place was so crowded it was scary! But we were able to snag the last parking place and got served really fast. It was delicious! Lillian's fried clams, one clam chowder and one fish chowder, yummers!

We shopped a bit after that but let's face it we need coffee and to go back to the condo. Well, well what do you know? We found a Goodwill and a brand spanking new Salvation Army right one rte 1!

I'll show you the finds another day because now I'm just too tired, I'm in my pj's, sipping a cold one and watching Man vs Food.

We will be getting dressed in about 15 to head out to Rye for a prize winning foot long lobster roll! I can't wait to see it!

2 nights was way too short! And the weather, the weather was super stinky!

Thank god I love the ocean any which way!!! It rained on and off the whole time and it was mucho cold. I couldn't take my usual dip ( I dip in any temp water), am I getting older? I don't know but I had on a t-shirt, a sweatshirt and a windbreaker with a fleece lining and I was barely okay.....

We took long walks, hunted for sea glass and ate plenty of seafood...The hotel room was gorgeous and the tv was LCD!

I went to the Goodwill store for the first time and was shocked to see that more than half the merchandise was new and I felt it was too expensive for needy people... I didn't find anything....No Pyrex (sigh) lol

Next door was a Big Lots store...That was way more interesting than the Goodwill, LOL! I bought a garden hose at more than 50% off....I can't wait to hook it up (I'll do just that when it stops raining!), I also found blue Saran Wrap (love,love,love!).

We did the obligatory Target and Bed,Bath & Beyond visits....Didn't really find some cool things

Oh well maybe next visit!

Now for the pic: I never remember the name of that pattern. I got this from ebay and was very disppointed when I opened the box...The paint was all dull and the description didn't mention it in the listing (%#@!%^&*() and I was too chicken to make a fuss. I had to oil it up for the pic.
