Whatever goes

So tonight I just want to post but I have no game plan...

So I'll just write about my week. One sure sign that I am a survivor is that on February 28th was the fourth anniversary of my present employment! YAY for me!

On Wednesday I visited Target to see what their big close out sale was....In case you are living under a rock...Target Canada is closing ALL of its stores in the next month or so....I could have predicted that at least 6 months ago but I love Target and I hoped they would succeed in Canada but they didn't for assorted reasons...

I am sure that this HUGE FAILURE will make the textbooks for business students.

                                        Sorry mannequins  looking lonely

At least the 20% off Easter candy was a good deal! The thing is they advertise 40% but the only things that was 40% off were DVDs....
Ok Target you are moving out, you are probably sore about this failure but you neer wanted to hear what consumers had to say.....So GOOD RIDDENS WE WILL BE SPENDING OUR MONEY AT WALMART!!!

And believe it or not it pained me to write that. Because I am not a fan of Walmart either but I have to give them props because  they have been in business in Canada for 20 years now and Target lasted not even 2.

I walked in front of my fave Portugal bakery....It has been closed for about 1 year....and for some strange reason they didn't bother to remove the cakes from the windows...

The cakes are looking crusty and the Barbie is looking lonely!

On the homefront the bathroom will be finished tomorrow.
We have been here 20 years and never painted the washer & dryer space!
This was long overdue!

And I have been packing boxes...Seems some Pyrex is going in storage!

I am a HUGE Leonard Nimoy fan and I just want to wish all of you:

Live Long and Prosper

More Xmas goodies

Since my last post I made 2 batches of gingerbread dough. In one I replaced the wheat  flour for spelt flour for my Dad who can't eat wheat anymore (for the time being) it gives him asthma...and a regular batch as well.

Now I scoured the web for my recipe but couldn't find it and I am too lazy to type it up....The difference is the addition of 2 tablespoons of orange zest.

Delicious!

I participated in the Black Friday satanic shopping ritual....at Target to get a B-Day gift for Dan. It was pretty organized...

Outside...We got coffee and a nifty store plan....
Inside , well that was total chaos! A lady was yelling at me in Greek and trying to sit me down in her cart! Another one kept saying : It is just like Scandal! Do you watch Scandal, I am hooked on Scandal...
By a shopping miracle I got the last item I cam to get....

I also saw these drinking accessories...

                                          And Pyrex! Xmas Pyrex!

But I did not get one, or 2 or 3. I bought NONE!
After I took the subway and went to the office!

I spent the weekend making caramel corn...It keeps very well and is totally delicious!

Now this is where I would share the recipe but it didn't copy well, so I will have to work on it. Sorry

And now I have this big black line I can't get rid of.

And this morning I decorate my desk and got a lot of comments on my Xmas wallpaper.

So sleep tight and dream beautiful dreams! I'm off to bed cause I am pooped!

Must Get!

I find that the problem with Target Canada, besides not including a flyer in our weekly flyer bag, having bare shelves and blah stores, is that it is not in the U.S.

In the past whenever I would go to Target in Maine I would get all excited because I couldn't find the stuff in Canada! Now they made deals with canadian companies, so let's face it I can find most of the things ANYWHERE....even in Walmart!

And what I want is not in the shelves.....But today I managed to nab the last white full fitted sheet!

Yay! And I saw these lovely appliances that I simply MUST HAVE!

These just blew me away! I just wanted to say BYE BYE old white toaster and bland crockpot! MUST HAVE THESE....They just filled me with glee!

I also saw those adorable Xmas outdoor decor....Who can resist this sweet fox?

                                                    This adorable piggy?

                                          Or this huggable Dashung?

I would have grabbed them in a jiffy if they had been blowmolds....
So that will be for another time!

I might just go back and grab one of the adorable white foxes.....

So I will bid you good night!

At last!

We are here! Oh my! It feels so good!

Our first taste of Green Mountain Coffee! I took Pumpkin Pie Spice, my favorite!

we had breakfast at Denny's, I loooove their hashbrowns....so crispy!

I spied this in their menu.....It's a cheesy super melt and there's macaroni and cheese layer (the pale one). Does that strike you as too much?

We got lost on our way to Target in Manchester! Thank you Google, you had us taking the wrong exit. We did meet a lot of nice people who tried to help us. Finally we saw the big sign!
Did I ever mention I loooovvvvveeee shopping at Target? We bought pillows and lamps and assorted knick knacks....

By the time we made it to the shore we were famished and a tad cranky. I was really sad to see that our go to restaurant had changed management.....More on that later.

We went to Rye beach and ate at Ray's seafood and lobster pound.

Yep that is yours truly hugging the big blue lobster! How cute is that?

This is what we see from the room....breath taking! Well we are off for our moring constitual!

Vacation Tidbits

Last week was wonderful and very different at the same time. We both got a nasty colds. The temperature was just a nasty; cold and damp except for the day I forgot Henry!

OOB was like a ghost town

We finished the puzzle

What's up with the pink cake? Has anybody tried it?

These muffins crack me up, they are pistaccio something....I've seen some of those green monsters since 1998....Just who buys those? They are soooo eeeewwww GREEN!

Henry went fishing...Here he is posing with his catch...
Yes Henry we'll have it mounted and installed on the wall in the living room....

Dan the loves these desinfectant wipes at the supermarket(we don't have those in Quebec). Everything gets a wipe down; I swear if we had a kid he would get wraped in the stuff!

The jury is still out on the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks...Is there any coffee in that brew?
As a rule I don't like Starbucks, their coffee gives me heartburn and I don't like their fucked up sizes. Here's Henry next to a Grande (small). The prices freaked me out; can you believe that the beautiful caserole in the un-opened box costs less that that drink?

I had some steamers, I hadn't had some in AGES (ok like 3 years)
To me steamers are something I eat in Hampton Beach NH, don't know why...
It is what it is

Aren't those the saddest Pyrex EVER? They were 6$ each
Seen in a flea

On the way back we stopped at the source. Every year we see bunches of people bended with empty gallons getting their fill....

Henry had a drink too!

We shopped a lot too (Bad weather). I love going at Target, it's sooo cheery! I bought a lot of cute sweaters.

Walmart was boring, but the food section OMG! We don't have those in Québec. There is a bit of food in Walmart but not an entire supermarket in it!

The Christmas tree shop is always to die for, I always buy WAY too much stuff there!
Crazy Miss V!
So dispite the weather and the cold, last week was really fun!
And guess what? I get to do it all over again starting this coming Saturday!

People of Maine! I wanna see TONS of yard sales and more Pyrex on those tables! Mouhahaha!

Did I buy sheets?

Did I buy sheets on vacation? You bet your sweet bipi! I feel in love with the color back in July, but decided against buying some....The voice of reason was heard in my head, well next to my head comig out of Dan's mouth.... We have enough sheets! So I said, if I still want them in September and Target has some, then i'll buy them! Which I did, I couldn't pass on 12.99$ sheets. Ok,ok they're not made of 100% cotton, but I found the bedding industry has made a lot of progress in poly/cotton sheet comfort.

In the early 90's, when I fell in love with the Martha Stewart line of sheets, the poly/cotton blend was soooo stiff you had to wash them multiple times to get them soft.Today with just one wash they were very soft and the color! How can I not fall in love with the color??? Tell me!

I needed a short and light topic today because I'm sick as a dog! All congested and coughing and I believe my brain is melting...I can barely form a sentence!

DWTS was quite entertaining last night. I felt the judges were too tough on the ladies. They are sexists. Len needs an enema...Yes I said it!

Macy Greay was not as bad as I thought, but not great either. I can't wait to see who gets the boot...Later readers

I'm back....sigh

2 nights was way too short! And the weather, the weather was super stinky!
Thank god I love the ocean any which way!!! It rained on and off the whole time and it was mucho cold. I couldn't take my usual dip ( I dip in any temp water), am I getting older? I don't know but I had on a t-shirt, a sweatshirt and a windbreaker with a fleece lining and I was barely okay.....
We took long walks, hunted for sea glass and ate plenty of seafood...The hotel room was gorgeous and the tv was LCD!
I went to the Goodwill store for the first time and was shocked to see that more than half the merchandise was new and I felt it was too expensive for needy people... I didn't find anything....No Pyrex (sigh) lol
Next door was a Big Lots store...That was way more interesting than the Goodwill, LOL! I bought a garden hose at more than 50% off....I can't wait to hook it up (I'll do just that when it stops raining!), I also found blue Saran Wrap (love, love, love!).
We did the obligatory Target and Bed,Bath & Beyond visits....Didn't really find some cool things
Oh well maybe next visit!
Now for the pic: I never remember the name of that pattern. I got this from ebay and was very disppointed when I opened the box...The paint was all dull and the description didn't mention it in the listing (%#@!%^&*() and I was too chicken to make a fuss. I had to oil it up for the pic.
Live and learn....

Sheets! Glorious bed sheets!

I love bed sheets, I love to look at them and to touch them. I love to buy some and to have a lot!

I have different sheets for different seasons. I was trying to remember when I first fell in love with sheets. What go me started???

I have a feeling it's genetic! LOL! As I was saying in an earlier post as I grow older I'm developping this mania of vintage fabrics...It's probably a mutation of my sheet mania!

I remember 20 years ago my Dad giving me Ralph Lauren 100% cotton sheets (white and blue stripped), he had gotten them at a factory outlet in Mass. They were the most beautiful thing I ever saw. All cool and crisp! Over the years I got quite a few of those sets, and some are still in use. Simultanously with Ralph I discovered the Martha Stewart sheets. Okay they were not in cotton but in a poly/cotton blend and so cheerful. I would go into a Kmart (in Lebanon NH) like into a holy shrine, a poly/cotton shrine and would smile alone in an aisle looking at all those sheets.....SIGH!!!

At one point my better half (always the helpful Dan!) informed me that we had enough sheets....really???

I honestly don't know how many sets I have...I have 4 sets for winter....Flannel, soft flannel-like going to sleep in a warm hug! My best ones come from LL Bean and are extra soft, white background with big sunflowers. I have a sage green set (also LL Bean) plain fitted sheet and pillow cases but a striped flat sheet (you can customize), a Target set, pale blue with white and dark blue 60's flowers, and the newest addition....a xmas gift actually! A LL Bean flannel set, white background with evergreen trees in all the colors of their flannel collection (That was a stroke of genius, if you ask me! lol, you can still match your existing bedding).

I have 4 comforters....2 for each bed...in case the cats puke on one in the middle of the night (Been there done that...) You just need to pull out a new one, throw the puked on one to the side and go back to bed.

And I keep fantasizing about buying new sheets....I'm looking forward to my OOB (Old Orchard Beach) vacation and thinking of going to Target to look at bedding. In the meantine whenever I see cool pillowcases at the church basement, I grab them! My latest one (pink, white and purple stripes) ended up in my bed this afternoon. Sometimes I used them as background for pictures, or they could end up in my eternal quilt...which i will finish one day..I swear!

I have to go...I think one of the cats just puked on the bedspread! LOL

Countdown to the BEACH!!!

Only 3 bedtimes and we head to the beach!!!

During my stay in September, I tried to book a stay for canadian thanksgiving (Columbus day?) but everything was already booked (I was flabbergasted!!!), but I left my name in case there is an opening and believe it or not on the way back (on rte 26, Maine) they called and left a message!!! So We will be staying in a 2 bedroom condo ( we are taking SD-step daughter this time). She is really excited (never as much as me....) and the thought of going to Target, the beach and stuffing ourselves with seafood.... You get what I mean???
Did I mention that I am on a seafood diet? I see food and I eat it...lol hehehehe (which might explain all those extra pounds) But enough about weight!!! This is supposed to be a blog about my favorite things....I hope to go to LLBean in Freeport, Michael's and Xmas tree shop and to eat Bill's Pizza, lobster or fried foods from the Lobster claw, to walk on the beach and basically just veg out..It is going to be goooood! And of course maybe score a bit of Pyrex!!!
Oh and there's this chocolate moose (Life size its seems....) in Scarborough.
Good times will be had by all ......OOB here I come!!!
