VTT: Gran mimi's recipe box

I have to admit that I took my inspiration for VTT from Suzanne @ Colorado Lady .Even if my house is overflowing with vintage and antique goodies, I find racking my brain trying to find things for VTT. When I saw her post on the recipe box she found, I thought of my grandmother's.

When my grandmother was getting on in years and eventually placed in a long term care facility, there was a big thing in the family about her recipes: They were no where to be found, someone had lost them, no they were found, oops they disapeared again. It was like paintings stolen by the Nazi!
So one time last year I was over at my Dad's and spelunking in the apt downstairs for some Pyrex....And I find this

My Dad says that it belonged to Granmimi and maybe I would like to take it home? Of course I would! It's cute, vintage and full of memories of my grandma!

Sorry about the fuzziness of the pic! Can you see the safety pin holding 2 pieces of a recipe together?
Most of the recipe cards are unused and most of the recipes are newspaper clippings from The Montreal Gazette. She loved to read that newspaper....and guess what? I do too! And I clip a lot of recipes from it also. I don't think she made those recipes there isn't any sign of spillage on any of them...
And just what is Veal with fufu??? That cracked me up!

And guess what I found????

Yes that is a pic of a Pyrex Flameware double boiler! If you want my opinion it is a must if you like to cook!
Going through my grandma's recipe box this morning was like visiting with her (even if those are not the fabled missing recipes!!!) Have a great VTT everybody!

Oh my goodness!!! It's so similar to the one Suzanne showed!!! No WONDER you got inspiration from Suzanne.

Really a treasure - - - I believe your dad knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he secreted it away for you to find later.

I love those old recipe boxes and to see what she liked and cut out of the paper is awesome. Maybe the lost recipes will show up one day.

So glad you found your grandma's recipe box and the treasures inside! It really is pretty too. I know what you mean about feeling like you've visited with your grandma just going through it.

Wow wonderful that you ran across the receipe box. Love the safety pin, I would leave it there and NOT remove it. My sister has an old black enamel box my grandparents kept important papers in and my grandma tied the top with a piece of white cloth. It's still here to this day. That was probably around 1940. Happy VTT

This is most special because it belonged to your grandma....I remember my own grandma had clippings all the time from the paper, she too loved to keep recipes. I have a few, but wish I had them all..Love the box and your memories that go with it...that is the stuff that makes things a little sweeter in life! Have a great VTT!

Ohhhh I love this, just love it. sigh. My one grandma that could cook had no recipes and neither did the one that couldnt. We used to throw her dumplings off her new york city apartment balcony and listen to them hit the ground. ah the memories of youth.

sorry this is so late. Ive been decrapping my house.

so what fufu

How fun to find all those recipes! My mom had a similar box and was a big fan of cutting out recipes. I do that too...and then usually never make them, but I have good intensions. :) Happy Spring from Houston, TX

The recipe box is fantastic. And how fun to go through the recipes she was interested enough in to cut out.
