All Good

So we went and picked up Dan and brought him home......

Everyone is happy.

we are now embarked in the low sodium, low fat, low sugar lifestyle adventure.

After while Dan was enjoying the conforts of home (remote control), we ran some errands and stopped at a church basement vintage sale!

Vintage is my crack....and I got so excited that I didn't even take pictures!

And I spied from afar....can it be? Are my eyes deceiving me?

I just wanted to push people out of the way! OUT OF MY WAY YOU FOOLS! The great Baroness Vonlipi must get closer, must confirm.....

Heck I felt like Indiana Jones on the cusp of a great discovery!

I have looking for this glorious casserole for quite a while now....
The 4 quart Charcoal Snowflake in all its glory!
I have been looking for this one for a good 8 years....
Yes I did see some on Ebay but either shipping was too expensive or
they didn't ship to Canada!

this was what I saw on Friday morning when i went to
go to work.....Yikes and freezing cold too!

For supper I am fixing turkey sacllopinis, broccoli and marinated mushrooms.
(all low sodium.....no animal fat......all good)

Stay warm and stay safe!

So Long 2017

On this last day of 2017, I cannot help but look back on this extraordinary year.

This was really a year of changes and transitions.

My mourning was in a different stage. Less sad and more about the good memories.

I sold the rest of the books, the cds and most of the dvds . That is a great weight lifted of  my chest.

And with all those things gone we can start really occupying the space and decorating how we want.

Speaking of which....

My Dad never decorated outside for Xmas....But I do!
So I got some turquoise wreaths and garlands from the Dollar store and
some battery operated lights...it looks really awesome at night!

My Xmas table with Charcoal Snowflake Pyrex and canned cranberry sauce.
That tablecloth was real cute but of cheap quality.....
it is fading on some spots....
a little bit of last minute decor! I was too tired and stressed out for elaborate
decorations so I pulled that one of in less than 15 minutes.
the wooden Xmas tree was handmade by Dan as a gift for my Dad in 2015.
Dad loved it! He kept it out all year round.

I just took pictures of the tree which means that I will be able to post them tomorrow
(I hope)

Dan being in a wheelchair meant that I was the nurse, maid, cook, butler you name it I was it and I still am but now with Xmas behind us I feel more at ease about being caregiver.

We have 4 cats: one is diabetic and has chronic diarrhea. She needs her insulin and a pill every morning to control the output.
one behavioral issued and needs an antidepressant and has stomach issues so he needs cortisone.
One is not sick but seems to spread some type of cat flu to Bandito (antidepressant) and Meghan...
so since October they need 3 applications of eye drops a day plus some lysine to boost their immune systems.

That makes for super busy mornings!

And I work full time! Bless my employer that allows me to work from home a couple of times a week. Then I can keep an eye of Dan....that fell from the chair and now has bursitis.

The company I work for moved from a dusty dingy building to brand new digs downtown
Montreal1 It is heaven! It is connected to the underground city so when the temperature dips I can go walk, or shop, or lunch in 5 different malls.

 New building, all shiny

  I got Peanuts Xmas shoes!
Thank you Santa!

I would really like to post tomorrow...
Fingers crossed!

Happy New Year!

Don't celebrate too much!

Pyrex Lovelies

Today was surely one of the most amazing days of the year! Let me explain.

We were full of energy, we were in a cleaning/fixing mood. We were up bright and early and got tons of things done!

Before I get to the details, I want to welcome my new followers! Welcome! If you love thrifting, vintage, Pyrex, glassware, lamps, Christmas, roadtrip, cats, gardening, eating local and food in general; well you're at the right place!

Sit back, relax, grab a snack or a pint.

Now I decided to change the Pyrex displays so I had the opportunity to take pictures to share with you.

Let's start with Snowflake, i.e: Turquoise, White and Charcoal

White Snowflakes on Turquoise and Turquoise Snowflakes on white

043 in White, Turquoise and Charcoal.

Open bakers! I LOVE,LOVE these!

Why? Because they are not divided that's why!

Here they are in White, Turquoise and Charcoal.

I was also able to capture the Pink Daisy bunch hanging out.

Here they are!

Now the really important piece here is the 045, it belonged to my paternal grandmother Gran-Mimi.
My Dad actually remembers it from the diner table!

It might have contained sheperd's pie or oven baked pasta.

Also smilig for the camera is the 043, the space saver (large) and the open baker.

Missing from shot ans quite shy is the smaller space saver.

I hope to charm it into posing tomorrow.

Now on a whim I decided to clean the bottom shelf of one of the akward corner cabinets....
It should house a lazy susan, but instead it's baking central!

Square Utility dishes in Lime and Horizon

Lasagna pan in Lime
and a smaller version I had no idea existed in Flamingo.

Pie plates in Lime and Flamingo and round cake pan
in Lime,Flamingo and Pink Desert Dawn (top one)

Now I have a theory...

I think that Canadian Pyrex wasn't made with as much care as the one
made in good ol' U.S.A....

Why? Well most of my Canadian made pieces have a funky weird flaw inside, like it was in the mold....It looks like a wave and is not glazed so everything stains it.

And they are harder to clean.

I'll try to capture it for you tomorrow.

Well that's it for today because I am soooo tired and I heard Dan and
Bandito snoring to the sofa!

'Night night!

You Sick of Turkey Yet?

Well I'm beginning to be sick of turkey. Since I made it on Dec 27th, we had some everyday classic style: turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce yadayada....

And as soon as it was cool enough, I deboned it, vaccum packed some dark meat for Dad and some white meat for us (then I freezed it) and made stock with the carcass. But you know how it is....we still had a lot to eat!

So last night I decided to make Indian Butter Turkey! This is such a nice change from traditionnal leftover recipes.

Ok I put tape on the enveloppe so I could share it with you. I can find those in most supermarkets now. There is a ton of variety from chinese cuisine, indian cuisine to vietnamese delicacies. Those sauces are not only authentic but at about 1.50$  affordable as well.

You just need to follow the instruction on the packet for a fast and tasty meal; I served mine with basmati rice and steamed broccoli. Oh so tasty!

Last night we had a small New Year's eve get togheter so I brought 2 super sweet holiday desserts.

Those are Gran-mimi's recipe. Maple tartlets.

And my mother-in-law's  fruit squares, shown here in a Charcoal Snowflake Pyrex casserole all ready to be gobbled up.

Today I played coach potato all day. I watched tv,I read, I napped you get the picture!

Have a great evening :)

VTT: Pyrex Open Baking Dishes

Now you all know (or most of you anyways) how I love Pyrex....If you're amongst those who didn't know, please read some of the older posts and you'll see my Pyrexia in all it's splendor!
As time passes, my focus on collecting Pyrex changes. At first I HAD to have everything, EVERYTHING! After quite a long while I realised that some pieces just took too much space! Then I went crazy for some NIB (new in box pieces) I have 2 and never use them, they stay in their box in the basement....:(
In September 2009 I developped Open Baking Dish envy(A.K.A Open Bakers)...I felt they were so much more useful than the divided dishes; which I find lack space because of the division and they're a pain to put away because they don't stack up well....
I found my first one in early October at the Gananoque Flea market in Ontario. I got so excited I nearly screamed!!! I was holding it close to my heart all the way to the cash!
They were manufactured in the 50's. They're more uncommon than the divided dish and the charcoal one is the least common of the bunch, but if you look hard enough you're bound to find one!

Here's the Pink Daisy (real name White Daisy) in action. I started a bad of cat grass for the kitties. They miss grass a lot. You'd swear cats are related to cows. When you are in the garden you can see all the cats snacking away on the tender green shoots....
Don't forget to head on to www.colorado.blogspot.com for more VTT fun!

Yum!

Supper was delicious last night!

The marinated tofu (soy sauce, garlic, fresh ginger, thyme, sesame oil and some water-you want color not over saltiness) is one of my faves!

It is sitting pretty in a Laurel Pyrex platter. The side dish was delicious as well. I took the recipe from a Flickr friend, it uses the overflow of one's garden. The only thing was that it made a lot of water. I'll have to figure how to fix that!

Here's the link:

It was made even more delicious by Pyrex charcoal snowflake Space saver! LOL! just like a Pyrex advertisement!

While I was running errands yesterday I saw this product and I bursted laughing!

ANTI MONKEY BUTT??? It is supposed to prevent and treat chaffing in the you guessed it butt area. But this product was placed in the foot care section. How funny is that?

Gotta run! I have to finish cleaning the house. We leave at dawn tomorrow....Old Orchard Beach here I come!

Wednesday Thrifting

I had to go downtown yesterday (oh no!) for my annual lung doctor appointment.

But I had some free time…free time you say? Why don’t I go to the Salvation Army?

Thrifting is not always about what you find but also what you see…Like this little guy…the kitty cat napkin ring for exemple…I could swear it came from my house! I had a pair and tried to sell them on ebay, didn’t happen…I was sick of looking at them and I gave them to a charity, not the Salvation Army. I think the other charity dumped some stuff to the SA!

What about this one? The Atlantic City wooden salt shaker kitty! I would have bought it but it missed the other shaker.

I found a really cute McCoy planter, a FireKing milkglass fridgie (lid missing), a Better Homes and Garden Meat Cookbook, a Xmas finger tip towel and a small Pyrex carafe.

Speaking of the carafe, I didn’t notice right away but the SA employee who wrote the price on it, wrote it on the metal band and it DOESN’T COME OFF!!!
So I can’t sell it, I have to re-give it, probably to the church basement….

It was soooo hot in Montreal yesterday, I swear I saw a car melt! I hate it when I sweat from the knee caps!

You probably know by now that I do bid on Ebay occasionally…So this is my latest acquisition! The charcoal 043 minty fresh from Alberta…reasonable shipping too!

Also I am totally addicted to Mad Men….Those characters are out of this world! I absolutely love the sets, and costumes. Peggy is something else!
