WARNING!

WARNING this post is picture heavy!

Yesterday we were out the door at 8:30 am full of caffeine, wondering what the day had in store for us...

First stop is about 5 minutes from my house and we buy stuff there every year. We scored 2 vintage folding lawn chairs. The fram is in excellent condition but I might have to redo the seat.

I know you can buy the stuff on line so this will be a fun adventure!

Next I got 2 brand new never used Pyrex baking dishes with the plastic covers

I got the 4 milkglass tumblers at a church sale.
We got 3 archies, a cutter and a shovel (not pictured) for 6$.

I also got a lime green bamboo mat 2 ft X 3ft for one dollar (new still in the bag)

Now this is where it gets interesting!
We drove and drove and a lot of neighborhood didn,t even have a table out so we decided to go back home....

And we see a lonely pink sign...

And then I FREAK OUT!

This couple had about 8 tables FULL OF BARWARE, GLASSWARE, PYREX AND FIREKING!

You should've seen this girl running around trying to take everything in!

Want some more???

Man oh man so much excitement!

We made a run spent 14$ and went back home.
After 10 minutes at home we looked at each other and got back in the car and went back!

The couple was laughing ans so were we.

We spent another 16$. Their prices were crazy low. Turns out they had bought lots at auctions and now the husband wanted his garage back!
I actually thanked him for wanting his garage back!

Here's what we got!

3 boozy guys for Dan

Never ever used Fireking cereal bowls
with the original price tag still on (5 for 1.44 $)

Dan fell hard for these Indiana glass Black Diamond Point glasses.

Xmas goodies!
On the left a vintage corsage (I will wear it at Xmas time),
and a dozen foil light reflectors, on the right some foil wreath with dangling bells.

MUGS!
Lotsa mugs

A 502 Verde with lid (2$) a Pyrex made in Canada dry measuring cup.
A cute jar from Avon and a delphite lid.
Now the guy was sorry he only had the lid, I said what a coincidence! I have the bottom!

Well folks that's it for today because I still need to take more pictures from the stuff we bought.
And I gotta get ready I have a christening this afternoon!

Be well and keep thrifting!

The end of an era

I was really sad and disturbed to learn last monday that one of the area's 'landmark' burned to the ground.

The Miss Dorion motel is no more. This was the cheapest, ickiest dive of a motel and nude dancer bar.

I've blogged about it before. I don't know what fascinated me about this place....Was it this sign?

I have a feeling it's related to my side show fascination....

This was in better days.
Everytime we would drive by I had a wise crack remark to make. And on the rare times I failed to pass a comment Dan would ask me if I was ok.

Since the its demise I've learned that the nude dancers only arrived in the early 90's before it was some kind of show place.
When  I first saw it it not only had an inground pool and a chip wagon so you could catch some exotic dancing, hang around the pool and eat fresh french fries....How classy is that? LOL!
Last year it had a 'makeover'....the owners slapped some ugly ass siding and not on all sides of the building.

See? the siding looks like fake rock. This is a pic from August when the Miss Dorion had a minor fire.

Mind you I wasn't aware of that! It had been closed and for sale since then.
Last saturday I made a special detour to witness the damage.

Only the pool is left.

A big pile of rubble. It does smell like arson!

All gone!

I sure am gonna miss bitching about you!

Will a condo tower replace you? If so I'll be there with snide remarks ready!

Thriftastic Day! Part One

Yes this is part one, because we were too tired to empty the entire trunk, as in car trunk.

I was up bright and early, i.e 6:00 am because I was sooooo excited about a big demolition sale at Beaurepaire United Church. We got there at 9:10.

I was unbelivably disapointed ;some little old lady know it all had decided to sell things at market price not at church basement prices. So the prices were C-R-A-Z-Y! 2 dollars for a wood hanger! PLEASE!

I spotted this poor little guy all by his lonesome....

It had a 5$ sticker on the dish and a 1$ sticker on the lid and it was chipped.
Unless they changed their price policy later I don't think they sold a lot...
I heard a lot of comments about the prices.

After we went garage saleing and I was totally giddy when I spotted these...

If you've been folowing for a while you know that I love Yankee Candles! Except the price of course!

The larger one is 29.99 retail here and the other is 24.99. That is nearly 55$ of heavenly scents. I paid 1.50$ for both, how is that for thrifty?
Both are brand new, never been used! SWEET!

It's getting a bit late so I want share one last find you and it's a doozy.

A delicious splashproof red apple Fireking bowl that will be listed in the store shortly. How cool is that?

See you soon for more thrifty goodness from that enchanted saturday!

Yippee!

OMGOMGOMGOMG! I'm sooooo excited, I'm almost besides myself!

But first a big Vonlipi's welcome to my new followers and especially to Zuitsuitmama| It's always nice when you've been following and enjoying a blog and they become followers too :)

So tomorrow we wake up bright and early and head south to Maine, I can't wait to discover what wonders it holds for us this time. For the time being, here's some pics that I took in October but never shared.

I'm totally glass addicted so of course I would take pics of tons of mugs!

A shelf full of FireKing! WOW
Nesting bowls, my faves!

Casseroles....Autumn Harvest, Town & Country,Acorn, Spring Blossom Green.

OOOOh! More bowls! And Jadeite too!

Ok I kinda regret leaving this one...A Pink Desert Dawn pie plate. I left it because I already have 3 pie plates....But I'd never seen Desert Dawn in the flesh! Oh well! Better luck next time!

I can't wait to go to my fave Maine fleas

Am I Gone Fireking Crazy???

Ok I admit it, I've loved Jadeite for a llllooooonnnnggg time. Something about the color; that tender, fresh green just makes me swoon!

And lately I seem to find a lot of FireKing ripe for the picking.....

I never keep the beautiful pieces I pick up, I always list them in the shop
Like these azurite luncheon plates.

That super shiny relish plate.

Those adorable berry bowls

Oh so cute custard cups!

I found those chili bowls last week at the Sally Ann. Only .69 cents each. And I decided to keep them to myself ! Their size is more practical than the Pyrex bowls I've been using (I can't believe I just wrote that!)
and I'll be listing those pretty Pyrex bowls shortly.

And this is the piece de resistance! The FireKing jadeite batter bowl! I've been aching for one for years and was always put off by the price. This year I found this one on vacation, very reasonnably priced and besides Dad bought it for me! It was reasonnable enough that it might be a repro but the color, finish and it had no mold marks; so I chose to believe that it is the real mccoy!

So I have Pyrexia and a touch of Jadeitiis!

Delicious Saturday

The original plan was to get up early, go pick up my dad, hit Finnegan's, eat at Smoke Meat Pete (You can't beat Pete's Meat) and drive my dad back. Unfortunately dad had to work on saturday....

So instead we got up early, packed some sammies and hit Finnegan's all by ourselves. The day was perfect, sunny not too hot(until afternoon) and flea market lovers were out in full force!

Those 2 lovelies were begging for a good home!

I always like a boxfull of bakelite handled cutlery.

Is that the Primary set I see? Too kaching and too worn out!

Lovely glass, Pyrex and Fireking Primrose

I want!

I am curious by that small bowl....it wasn't the same primary blue and it had a newer stamp underneath from the late 70's early 80's...Microwaveable

I nearly had a heart attack at this table....There's not much I like better than seeing a big group of bowls!LOL

I found some totally fab things for the shop....

A Fred Press liquor caddy! How cool is that? Don Draper has one on his desk for sure!

And the ladies who have lunch are bound to serve it on some lovely FireKing Luncheon plates!

How was your weekend?

Retro Tuesday: I'm in love with Fred Press!

Who's Fred Press? He was a houseware designer in the 50's. He designed glasses, bowls and I saw some cheese boards too. I discovered his work when I found this....

I found it on Etsy and got it as part of Dan's Xmas gift. I could not resist the turquoise and gold....After that I saw a lot of sets much too expensive for my taste...

The other day I was researching a FireKing bowl for my shop HERE and look what I found....

He designed bowls for FireKing! And look the 2 bowls with candle warmers match my glass! How cool is that? From what I could learn he did a line of bowls with warmers all decorated with gold. Anchor Hockings didn't make any other FireKing bowls with gold....So if you find one it's a Fred Press!

To all a happy Retro Tuesday! And for more retro fun be sure to visit my ever hilarious friend Tracy at Crazy Suburban Mom !

Church basement letdown

Last thrusday I was really excited to go to the St-Georges annual Xmas sale. 2 years in a row I found snowflake Pyrex there at reasonnable prices. I had no idea how big a shock I was in for....

Not only there was NO pyrex, but the prices were really crazy! The price of the plum pudding doubled! A dollar for a piece of fudge...what the?????

I went downstairs to hunt some more and I witnessed the same scenario there....4 little green bowls at 2 dollars EACH! They were worth 2$ for the 4 not more! I saw a glass electric insulator for 15$ That was it! I had to get out of there...FAST!

To apease my frayed nerves, I had lunch at McDonald's. I had been fantasizing about chicken nuggets for a while (more than a year actually). Another mistake! Those were tasteless, the sauce too vinaigry....eurk!

On to the Salvation Army....I hope I would have more luck there....The thrifting gods answered my prayers....I turned a corner and time stopped, a lady was holding....a liquor caddy! OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!

She put it back on the shelf....and as fast as wind I grabbed it!

I found some adorable stackable cups as well. I just love those!

And last but not least .....a FireKing Gay Fad square baking dish....

All these fab items and more are in my etsy shop, so son't be shy and drop by! I love convos!

Also I add some cool new stuff nearly everyday....'coz Xmas is coming!

See you!

Wednesday Thrifting

I had to go downtown yesterday (oh no!) for my annual lung doctor appointment.

But I had some free time…free time you say? Why don’t I go to the Salvation Army?

Thrifting is not always about what you find but also what you see…Like this little guy…the kitty cat napkin ring for exemple…I could swear it came from my house! I had a pair and tried to sell them on ebay, didn’t happen…I was sick of looking at them and I gave them to a charity, not the Salvation Army. I think the other charity dumped some stuff to the SA!

What about this one? The Atlantic City wooden salt shaker kitty! I would have bought it but it missed the other shaker.

I found a really cute McCoy planter, a FireKing milkglass fridgie (lid missing), a Better Homes and Garden Meat Cookbook, a Xmas finger tip towel and a small Pyrex carafe.

Speaking of the carafe, I didn’t notice right away but the SA employee who wrote the price on it, wrote it on the metal band and it DOESN’T COME OFF!!!
So I can’t sell it, I have to re-give it, probably to the church basement….

It was soooo hot in Montreal yesterday, I swear I saw a car melt! I hate it when I sweat from the knee caps!

You probably know by now that I do bid on Ebay occasionally…So this is my latest acquisition! The charcoal 043 minty fresh from Alberta…reasonable shipping too!

Also I am totally addicted to Mad Men….Those characters are out of this world! I absolutely love the sets, and costumes. Peggy is something else!
