Aaaaahhhhh! the thrill of the hunt and the joy of the find!
Thrifting has been to an all time low here...but last Friday I was gifted a trip to Renaissance courtesy of crazy ass traffic....
Here's what I found!
A sweet vintage cookie tin for my collection
A sunshiny yellow Melmac cream and sugar set
A vintage icing seringe with 6 different tips
I saw a Xmas blowmold that I didn't have....a teddy bear. The price was pretty steep and the condition so-so; so I leftt it there!
I hope to find a new one soon :)

Sometimes....
Sometimes it seems you blink and a whole week has passed you by.....You wake up monday morning and next thing you know it's friday night!
Thank god for the long weekend here in Canada (It will give us time to catch up on some zzzzzzzssss and chores)
As I was writing last week....I have a deep urge, a need,a longing, a yearning for some really satisfying thrifting.
You know the high, the rush of adrenaline....
So I told Dan that I needed a trip to the Salvation Army!
And boy was it ever good and satisfying!
Yeah, yeah I've bitched and moaned about divided dish before....but I've been in a major Pyrex dryspell and what do you know they don't stack well but are pretty handy!
Minty fresh Corex! Corex was made by Corning in Leaside, Ontario; in the very same plant Pyrex was made. I found the sugar bowl in the first aisle and the creamer in the last one.
.
I was jumping with glee! They will go in the shop shortly .
Now I also found a groovy glass ice bucket and a Coca-Cola 1976 Olympic tray but I was too scatter brained to take pictures!
Now tomorrow I have HUGE expectations because on Ile Perrot (the island I live on) is the first of three weekends of island wide garage sales and the weather is supposed to be cooperating.
I'm looking for owls, Pyrex, Le Creuset and assorted funky vintage goodies!
Cheerio!

Fiddleheads, Thrifty Finds and Kitschy Lunch!
Here up north, it's a long weekend: Fete des Patriotes in Québec and Victoria Day for the rest of Canada. Usually we pack the car and head to Maine or New Hampshire and even to Ontario....But not this year.
We are painting the living room and dining room and the staircase....It was long overdue!
But first things first! It is fiddlehead season and I couldn't resist. I love the green wild taste. It tastes like the forest.
They were served with pimento olives and vintage sword cocktail picks. I got a box of those still sealed in my fave church basement for a dime last year. They were made in Korea for F.W. Woolworth. Now i believe the last Woolworth was closed about 25 years ago in Montreal. It was on Ste-Catherine street, when it was a real shopping street, not just shoes and cheap and ridiculously small clothes.

Fiddleheads are the furled fronds of young ferns.
You need to blanch them then cook them in a skillet with a bit of butter. I added some cayenne and salt and pepper.
It looks even better in a sweet Pyrex casserole!
Even if we had a lot of work to do today we had to run some errands....and lo and behold we came accross a HUGE garage sale, I just had to stop because let's face it I'm a total addict and I haven't found mucho cool stuff in a while!
I was rewarded with this:
A 70's pitcher and a melmacesque(no stamp) cream and sugar set in a lovely shade of salmon. I say melmacesque but it really feels like Melmac.
I also found a red pouch filled with stuff for a quarter. The stuff was porcelain brooches ,a brooch and earrings set- lovely with rhinestones and roseries, quite a few!
Pictures later.
Now for lunch I was in a totally vintage, thrifty mood, so I made sandwiches....
We each had one half with pastrami and the other was ham.
We painted all through the afternoon and I also worked on the BIG 2011 DE-CRAP-A-THON.
More painting for us tomorrow!
Sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite! :)

Top o' the morning to you!
Happy St-Patrick's Day everyone! Today I will share some Pyrex pieces that I really love...
I was enchanted by the loveliness of the pattern. It is so light and airy. Personally the pattern would've been called Shamrock instead of Ivy....but that's just me.
Of course I'm missing the rack to hold the dip bowl over the chip bowl. Those are IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND! A ton must've ended up in the trash....
If ever you have a rack or holder that you don't want....please write! Have a delicious day!

VTT: The day after...Delphite in the snow
Whew! I just spend part of the day digging myself out of all the snow we got yesterday!
You know what they say: Better late than never!
A couple of weeks ago I did the VTT on my Delphite (Pyrex) collection and I got great responses; Thank you everybody!!!
So I decided to show you the rest of the collection. It's still quite small but it's a work in progress!
In the second pic you can see the pitcher, the cream and sugar set (a gift from my crazy friend Pat) and a cup and saucer.

I think I mentionned in the post before that I was missing a cup...well I was lucky enough to find it 2 weeks ago in a flea on the west island. And the nice seller had one extra cup so she made me a deal! SWEET!
The hunt is definitely fun! I got those dishes one at a time and some I got even before I knew what Pyrex was....I just loved the color!
Taking pics of Pyrex in snow has been a project of mine but I needed the snow to be just right. I also had to be extra careful in hauling everything outside!
Bottom pic: The refrigerator set. In the Pyrex refrigerator sets that you normally find the lids are clear. The blue lids were made only for a short time; they were not as practical as the clear ones. You can see that the lids are not striped in the middle and that gives us the indication the lids are pre-1950's as well. They changed the lids to all striped after that because the process was less time consuming.
The plant in Ontario opened in 1945, so the fridgies are from between 1945 and 1950. Nobody has Ever seen (so dramatic) the larger fridgie in Delphite...Nobody knows if it was ever made....
Well that's it for me! I hope you had fun and speaking of which be sure to visit the Queen of VTT Colorado Lady at www.coloradolady.blogspot.com

Thrifty Finds!
I had a super day yesterday! I came down to downtown Montreal in the afternoon and then the marathon began!
I had to stop at the Salvation Army! I just couldn't help myself...lol
I made a quick prayer to the thrifting gods and went inside. I found some nice unused mustard and orange napkins (vintage of course) and a melmac cream and sugar set (minty fresh...) and a really cute JAJ casserole with roses on the side. Those items I'll put in the Etsy shop because I can't keep them, but there was NO way I could leave them there, they were just too nice !!!
For myself I found a Pyrex Sunflower 043 lid and 2 delicious milkglass tumblers, and a special cook book for my dad (I can't tell you which one 'coz my Dad is a regular reader and it would mess up the surprise). In case you weren't aware Father's day is just around the corner....The book was a bonus, the bigger gift is supernice if you're into that kind of stuf....
After I made a quick stop at a fancy grocery store to get fancy ingredients I can't find in the boondocks....then a sprint to the Chinatown for some Hoisin sauce and Oyster sauce (and Wasabi peas...come to me..you little green nuggets of JOY!!!) and last but not least a power walk to Old Montreal where the restaurant was.
I was quite surprised by Steak Frites, the steak was tender served with a nice cream and cognac sauce and green beans...plus ALL YOU CAN EAT HOMEMADE FRIES!!!! How can you beat that??? And a salad was included in the price also! It was bring your own wine....good deal
I had a lot of fun with my girlfriends, I hope we all meet again over the summer and that we never loose touch!

What a MESS!!!
As you can see the !@#$$%^ thing exploded in my washing machine!! I was not laughing at the time, more like cussing!
I left everything there, and went on one of my weekly excursions at the church basement. Where I found this darling cream and sugar set, it is very cute! I jumped on it like there was no tomorrow! It will make a great addition to my Etsy boutique!
I have to skedaddle! Have a nice day! :)
