Retro Tuesday: Brought to you by Melmac

Aaaahhhh! Melmac! I love Melmac. I love
finding it and handling it and finding good homes for it. In the last year I found some amber, white, pink, turquoise and green all of them near mint condition, but I found some really unusual pieces last week turquoise and white! How cool is that?
They were hiding in a thrift shop I had written off because it was snobbish, stuffy and expensive! On a whim last friday I decided to go and drag SD (step daughter) there. It was great fun! Here's the Melmac some good ol' Canadian Melmac made in Toronto!

And this

I'd never seen cups with 2 different colors before!

So of course I was reminded of this ad in Chatelaine dec. 1958

For those who don't know Chatelaine is the oldest Canadian women's magazine still in circulation. It was dubbed The Canadian Home Journal. It's really nice to see ads for canadian products. Who would've thought Melmac would still be popular today?

You'll be able to visit those dynamite pieces and more right HERE

And don't forget for all you vintage lovers to drop by Crazy Suburban Mom's blog HERE for more Retro Tuesday!

Oh I love some Melmac! I've never seen the two colors like that either. Nice find!

That's great looking! I still find that sometimes and some of it is terrific design although what you found is really really much nicer than what I've found. I sold some pink melmac a while back... and it was cute :) But it still wasnt as nice as this two color stuff. I live near where Boontonware was produced so I find that sometimes - I had a set once but it was the ugliest green ever. Don't know why I picked that color - ugh! lol

Melmac brings back such wonderful memories for me. Memories of packing up the car and/or travel trailer to head to the "camp" (not quite pretty enough to be a cottage). I loved being there and running free.

When I was a little girl, I couldn't have cared less about the Melmac plates that we ate off of. Now I am trying to get up the courage to ask my Mom for those plates, and I am thrilled when I find some in thrift shops. Love the turquoise!

Thanks for stopping by! I love all your comments. My mom was a big snob and Melmac plates were too common for us (I'm ashamed of this just writing it!). I was envious of all my friends who ate their sandwiches on Melmac plates....

Thanks for your comment on my blog. May I please steal those wonderful words "garden porn"? I love them.
