LAST GIVEAWAY TEASER AND IT'S A GOOD ONE!

What a week! A bit of advice of ALL employers in Canada: Give your employees more than one week of vacation the first year please!!!!!

Even if I go t bed early I'm still tired! I was on vacation on August 29th last year....and my body is  feeling  it. I only got a week because I became permanent in January 2012.

Next year I get 3 weeks paid vacation, yay!

This year will be a staycation  because we need to TCB (take care of business) all outside around the house because we have the big dig in September. Our ciment block foundation is leaking so we hired a company to dig out the foundation ,install 2 membranes, a french drain.....

I need to move some perrenials....

Now for the giveaway....

This little guy need a home....

A lonely shaker...
He is totally adorable!

And this is the piece the resistance that I kept for last!

Yes you saw that right.

A Delphite 502 fridgie complete with a Delphite lid.

There is a small chip on the lid. But a great piece nevertheless!

Is a recap necessary?

Here it goes!

Now remember this giveaway is only opened to my existing followers.
You have until August 21st 2012 12:00 pm to leave a comment

Have a great day folks

Look What I Found !

It was slim pickin's at the church thrift this week...sad face
How ever I found 2 gems! I bought myself a flannel pijama; the same pattern I had for years and loved it soooo much I  wore it until it was full of holes! So I could'nt resist especially since it was a medium instead of an XL!

Sorry about the fuzzy pic!

I also found this...

The Parker Bros game of Finance! Manufactured in Canada in 1958 and in really good condition!

A cool addition for the store :)

Last but not least; a pic for my pal Mick...See I bake in my fridgies and they didn't break!

Have a great weekend! I'm off on a secret expedition!

Nearly finished!

I couldn't post on Thrusday because the electrician came to install new outlets and kept opening and closing breakers...

With one new outlet in the hall I was able to plug in the new lamp I bought. Here's a peek!

To tell the truth the pic doesn't do it justice...The lampshade is more lime green than that.
I just noticed the green tape under the table...it cover a hole that we need to fill....

The other side with a stream of sun light. The table was spruced up with some dark stain. It looked pretty 1995 before but now it fits right in!
I'm always glad to come home to this wonderful new hall (with the new hall smell!)

The peaches from Ontario are to die for! Last night I grilled some...

And served 2 halves with a scoop of fat free frozen vanilla yoghurt and a bit of chocalate syrup.

It was so good I didn't have time to take a pic, we gobbled it up like maniacs!

In case you're wondering the white and blue platter is made by Pyrex for Bradford House. It was a department store with a lunch counter. Found 2 in Brimfield Ma 2 years ago.

VTT: Opal Love

Happy VTT everyone! I'm always stoked when Thrusday rolls around...what to write about? I can always
 count on my old standby...Pyrex!

So if you're already a follower you probably read Monday's post HERE! about the Red Barn and the fart faced seller!

I found one of the missing links....A small Pyrex Opal fridgie! With lid! Opal means a white Pyrex with no pattern on it.

The Opal bowl set was introduced in 1954 and had 4 bowls. The company produced them only for 2 years. I don't know about the Opal refrigerator dishes, but what I know is that they are mighty hard to find!

On the far left you can see the new addition, next to it is the medium fridgie. In the back are the 401 and 402.

Part of the Pyrex urban legend is that the largest fridgie doesn't exist. I have never seen one in person, on Flickr or Pyrex Love....Prove me wrong and let me find one!

I couldn't help myself! Another shot of delicious Pyrex Opaliciousness!

Here are more pics taken inside the Red Barn in Hudson, Qc home of the fart face seller.

OOoohh! Melmac!

Le Creuset and assorted cast iron

Assorted Glassware

Need a toaster??? We got toasters!

Chairs,chairs and more chairs....

And guess what? More chairs!

I hope you enjoyed this little tour! Be sure to visit the so delightful Suzanne from Colorado Lady
for more vintage joy!

Lovely Gift

I had a wonderful day yesterday. We did the leisurely saturday morning tv watching thing....I love Sell This House!

I must be some kind of voyeur because I definiteley enjoy seeing the interior of people's homes and the bad decoration! But let's face it everything old is new again, so if you keep it long enough, it will be cool again.....someday!

I can't believe the quantity of tchatckies people have...and the family pictures! I can't talk too much because I have the tchatckies!!! And the Pyrex! Did you know I collect Pyrex???

Did you know I had Pyrexia? Real bad! Doctor, doctor gimme the news I gotta bad case of Pyrexia...No pill's gonna cure my ill...I gotta a bad case of Pyrexia!

We then went to a matinée, to see the newest play by one of our leading playwrights Michel Tremblay. No my favorite but it certainly got us talking, so the play did its job!

On to the Deer Garden for some awesome chinese food....Shrimp in lobster sauce, Sam See chow mein, shrimp wonton....DELICIOUS!

And to top it all off....I got an amazing, amazing gift from Dad.... New fridgies!!! And some pink Pyrex to booth!

And I didn't have the yellow one! First thing I did when I got home was to wash them in the tangerine soap....Ok sounds crazy but it's like I'm bonding with the Pyrex....Call me nuts!

Pick 'N' Paw

This is the second part of the way home.

I mentionned this place earlier in the blog...The Pick 'n' Paw! Mysterious place...It certainly looks like a flea market....A demented flea market! Huge piles of stuff all over the ground....An Old barn. It was closed when we passed in front on Aug 29th but one week later on the Sept 5th it was opened, and we almost missed it! We went back. There was piles of stuff as far as the eye could see, huge piles. Rotten cardboard boxes full of dishes, of rusted metal boxes,of old phonebooks....Whatever you wish for they probably have it but you need to dig! And it's filthy! EEEEWWWWWW!!!!

Well that certainly didn't stop me! After all we have wet ones in the car (the thrifter's best friend!). After going through a couple of boxes I found a 503 lid (Pyrex). It's the lid that goes on the biggest refrigerator dish. Great !I needed one, especially for 50 cents!

Did I mention that this place is in the middle of nowhere? In a field? I can't see anybody! I only hear crickets....We walk around the grounds and obviously they don't get a lot of traffic, the grass is waist high. At the far end a bunch of chickens are running around, scratching and pecking .

The building is missing windows and planks. Near the entrance are 2 clean and nice looking teenagers. I peer inside and it's looks really dark and creepy. And there's stuff all over the place, from floor to ceiling. It's a cross between Children of the Corn and Supernatural!

I'm pretty skittish and we hesitate. But curiosity and the prospect of treasures (Pink Pyrex) win us over.

I found those 2 Pyrex cups in an unknown pattern for 50 cents each too. No Pink Pyrex,or bowls. Is it necessary to mention that they don't give you a bag? LOL

This place definitely scared the bejesus out of me, I had goose bumps for at least an hour after!

But stopping at the Pick 'n' Paw was on my dream list and I will bring Dad next time we're in the neighborhood!

It's a miracle!!!

I went downtown Montreal yeserday afternoon (to dine with girlfriends) and I so had to stop at my fave Salvation Army...I was pushing my cart, thinking that the client's profile had changed (not so much the old weird guys, but a lot of families-with kids, that is sad) when a shape caught my eyes...Could it be????
OMG,OMG,OMG,OMG,OMG!!!! A pink refrigerator dish with the old lid!!!! OMG,OMG,OMG!!! IT'S MINE, MINE,MINE ALL MINE YOU HEAR? GODDAMMIT GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!
Of course I took it! I've been looking for one 4EVER! 2 years ago my Dad wanted to buy the set for me, but I actually said no....Can you believe that? It thought the price was WAY too steep!
And I found other cool stuff too, but the best part was that when I came up to the cash the cashier looked at the pink Pyrex and had this disgusted look (like I can't believe they want me to charge 4.99 for that piece of crapola!!!) and charge me .99 cents for it! SCORE!!!!!
I also found the Women's day encyclopedia of Cookery (vol 1 & 2) and assorted knick knacks! And on top of it all I got to meet my friends and laugh like a crazed hyena and eat at a restaurant and be on my own in the big city....The restaurant we went to is called Les 3 Brasseurs (the 3 Brewers). They make delicious beer on the premises! But the food makes me wonder why a chain from Belgium (definitely known for their incredible fries) is serving frozen fries, and pre-molded meat patties in the burgers....
Guess what? It's rainning again!!! A fine little rain, like you see by the seashore....
I don't know what I'll do today except a health walk to the farm stand to get some field raspberries while it's still time!
Don't forget to leave a comment on the giveaway post if you want to be included in the draw! If you have a ton of those cute little dishes, I appreciate your visit and your comment all the same!

Thrifty finds

About a gazillion years ago (Ok more like 10), we decided cross country skiing was for us!!!

So we bought some skis and poles on sale, but no boots (why oh why???). Well needless to say the skis have been 'rotting' in the basement gathering sawdust and spider webs and probably mice poo (that's for another post...LOL.).

Since after Xmas we have been wanting to do some....finding 3 peg boots has been kinda problematic.

1) they don't make 3 pegs boots anymore
2) the second hand sport shop didn't have our size
3) No store has 'leftover' 3 pegs boots
4) The Salvation army had skis but no boots

Well today is wednesday and wednesday is church basement day- and it is 5.00$ a garbage bag of clothes or 50% off.

So I put on my longjohns (yes it's that kind of weather in western Quebec) and my trusty ski goggles and took a walk to the church.
I found this refrigerator dish with lid (.50c cents) and this excellent leather wallet (free). I saw some cross country skis near the door and asked the nice lady at the counter if they had any Xcountry boots and she said "if we have some they're in the back in the boxes",well they did have some and I found 2 pairs that will fit us! SCORE!!! I was sooo proud of myself!
We will be able to ski!!! I need to desinfect the boots but after that we will be good to go!
The refrigerator dish is not a Pyrex or a Fire King but an Arcoroc and was primarly used as a butter dish. My dad who's anti-plastic in the microwave or even for leftovers will love it!!!
I did have a lot of fun this morning but I gotta go! :)
