As I was telling my dad that I got some more Mason jars today… He told me: You really have a thing about Mason jars don’t you?
I read your blog and these beautiful old jars reminded me of my childhood. I used to see them all the time!
And I commented : They must have been exploding all over the place! I recall hearing about peaches and exploding jars (was it in I love Lucy?).
Dad said: Oh yes I remember the explosions! We used to buy maple syrup that usually came in tin gallons, but this one time the maple syrup came in mason jars….We didn’t have room for a cold room so your grandma fix a closet as a cold room. And that summer it was so hot that all the maple syrup jars exploded and there was a sticky mess all over!
I really love hearing stories from my dad’s childhood; he seems to remember all the day to day things that I love so much; so I wanted to share this one with you.

I am very familiar with the Mason jars. We have used many of them in the past. Take advantage of learning all you can about your family while someone is still around that can tell you things. I have regretted so much for not asking more questions. It is too late now.
I love your Mason jars and the story is wonderful! Happy VTT!!
The colors in your photo are very nice. Perfect for fall.
LV is right, keep asking while you can.
I guess you are not only Pyrex Queen but Mason Jar Princess. Woohoo!

Love your mason jars and your Dad's mason jar story! I can just imagine all that maple syrup gone to waste!
Funny story about the maple syrup! I LOVE old mason jars...especially with the old zinc lids. Yours are great :)
Blessings!

Great story, I love hearing about my mother's childhood. She spend a lot of it on the family farm in North Hatley where they've been making syrup for a long time. I've never heard about exploding jars of syrup, but then, as long as I can remember they have canned theirs. TFS!
I don't collect Mason Jars, but they bring back happy memories for me too. Although I didn't realize they could explode under the right circumstances. Yikes!
I love this post, so much fun! I adore your Mason jars and wish I had a place for a collection. Oh! For a bigger house!
Happy VTT,
Sally
I'm addicted to Mason jars also. Cute story from your Dad.
