Out with the old....

Dad had a LOT of plumbing issues.....

The faucets are either dripping. leaking or threatening to fall off....

I fixed the handheld shower with a new bargain hose from Ebay...That was an easy fix!

Then we had this...

  I hate pedestal sinks....

and this one had seen better days....

The faucet was so loose. We were sure, we

would break it off....

We would not use the sink because of it

Here is the new sink, faucet and vanity!

YAY!!! for us!

A good kick in the pants

Nothing gives you a good kick in the pants like putting your house for sale!

Stupid TLC and HGTV!!! I blame them for those buyers who want everything done for them!

 NO I WON'T PAINT THE LIVING ROOM!

I understand that the house must be clean but everything brand spankin' new? No way hosé!

So over the weekend we scrubbed and painted and I changed (finally) the kitchen faucet...yes the one that had been dripping for years....

And now that the interior is mostly done we need to take care of outside...raking leaves and painting,staining.....

We are really happy with what is being accomplished and we plan to keep everything squeeky clean...

                                          The old kitchen faucet had been dripping for years....and even
                                           when we tried to fix it, it was not cooperative! We tugged and pulled
                                           for more than 4 hours and we were not able to pull out the old
                                           cartridge. When i turned the water back on, the faucet was not dripping
                                           anymore...but that miracle lasted only 2 weeks.

                                          Enter the new faucet! With an integrated  veggie shower it
                                          was pretty easy to install once Dan was able to remove the old one.
                                          I started but didn't have the strength.
                                          So this gives me another faucet under my belt...so in the last 10 years I've
                                          installed  4 faucets. Not bad!

                                          As for light fixtures...I've installed 10 light fixtures and rewired 3 lamps in the
                                          same time period not counting dimmers. I quite enjoy working with electric                                                   thingies and if I had to start over today I would probably take an electrician                                                   course.

                                          We still need to wash windows....

When I dropped off 2 boxes of goodies at Brockville's Sally Ann I found these delicious jiggers/shot glasses.

                                          They remind me of Fred Press items and they will be great in the new bar!

                                          Old drippy faucet....it took 2 hours to remove! OMG!
                                           All corroded under and screwed on way too tight!
                                           Surprise! I was the one who installed it!

                                          New non drippy faucet! LOVE!
                                          For me. drippy faucets are the same as holley socks....
                                          very poor looking....In Quebec I would say BS (bien etre social translated to wellfare) .....

                                          The cubbard doors are removed and in the basement waiting for some paint.

                                          But we do need to take a hint from the kitties....and take a nap once in a while!

Some Cool TCB

Yes still going on with the TCB!!!

To tell you the truth we didn't do much this weekend....probably because of the great heat and humidity and it was afterall our first weekend after the very, very tiring first week back from vacation!!!

So basically we only tackled one TCB project....The kitchen faucet. It has been dripping for a while, make that 6 months....I had this idea that the cold water cartridge needed changing....It is always the first thing to go....And the handle on that side was brocken too!

 So yesterday I cut the water, and start dismantling the faucet handle. While attempting to remove
the cartridge, I pull and pull and finally it comes undone and I whack myself on the forehead with the plyers! OUCH! I am sporting a pretty big bump on the forehead.

I put everything back together, turn the water on...and guess WHAT? It still LEAKS!!!!
 So it must be the spout washer! I change the washer...and guess WHAT??? IT LEAKS!!!

NOW I AM PISSED OFF AND I'M BANGING POTS IN THE KITCHEN AND WASHING DISHES. Dan asks: Do you want me to do the dishes? NO! I AM FRUSTRATED WITH THE SINK!!!

So I leave it be. This morning Dan helps me shut off the hot water so I can do the same on that side...

 It is very corroded on this side and gunky...And Dan attempts to remove the cartridge, pulls and pushes, with a hammer, chisel, plyers...the whole tool box.

MORE THAN AN HOUR! We are quite discouraged....

We give it another go and give up. It is not coming out. EVER!!! The only thing I will be able to do is change the handle.

Which I do. And turn the water back on. We will just have to live with the drip until we redo the kitchen and change the counter, sink and faucet.

 With the new faucet handles...

Now guess what? GUESS WHAT? It is not leaking anymore and we don't understand why! CRAZY!

A vacation TCB I forgot to blog about was the frames....

 We have been wanting to frame some prints for more than a year! We couldn't find cheap frames at first....Frames are cheaper at Michaels in the U.S than in Michaels in Canada! And we got great deals at The Christmas Tree Shop ! That was last year...

 But when we started to frame the prints, I broke the glass from one frame !!!

 So last October we got more frames and they have been gathering dust ever since!
About the prints: The first one I got from Etsy as a gift for Dan.
Of course I had to get a Pyrex advertisement...From Etsy as well.

The last one; the Mid-Century house I got years ago from the Sally Ann for .99 cents.

We love it!

 Last pic is not that great. My step daughter loves this lamp and Dan broke it 2 years ago....I promised I would fix it. Well it is fixed! Vero I'll give it to you soon!

Well my friends that is it for today! It is time to prepare our evening meal. Grilled marinated prok loin with veggies. Delicious!

Faucet Blues

I bought this faucet about 5 years ago...

It was cute and on sale!

It started dripping about 18 months after I got it; so I went to the hardware store and a friendly salesman told me it was very frequent with th ekind of faucet I bought and sold me a washer and spring.

I changed it and we were back in business!

About a year ago it started dripping again, I changed the washer and it continued to drip....I let it be. I didn't know what to do and didn't feel like explaining my woes at the hardware store.

So it's been dripping for a year. Last weekend since I'm already in an hardware store buying a kit to close the pool so I bought more washers and springs.

Wednesday between trying to apply for that job and closing the veggie garden, I tried my hand at changing the washer again.

Guess what?

dripping!!!

So I check out the Peerless website (yes it's a Peerless faucet) and they tell me if changing the washers doesn't work, I need to change the stem....Ok now I'm swearing...oh yes big juicy swears.

So i go to Canadian Tire and buy 2 different stems (we never know) and I peddle back home.

I worked on it for 3 hours! I kept changing the stem, the washer and still dripping. Turning on the water, turning it off...!"/$%?&*(

At one point I decide to try the other stem and I forget to turn off the water, yes you read right!

It was like a freaking GEISER in my bathroom, everything was wet! The ceiling, the drapes, the cat liter, INSIDE THE DRUG CABINET! OMG!

Of course I was drenched! So I manage to close the water and dry everything off with towels. Now I have 10 wet and dirty towels.

So I decide to do a load of laundry....The washing machine DOES'T WORK! WHAT THE F****???

 I try all the breakers and still it doesn't work, I'm about to cry.....

Then I think of reseting the protected outlet and guess what? the washing machine is on the same circuit!

So now the faucet has a new waser, and spring and stem and....

it's

still

dripping!

I guess I need to buy a new faucet....
