Out thrifting....

I haven't been thrifting in a long time...I would like to say forever, but that is just not true

Saturday we decided to go on a road trip...first Lake Placid...changed our minds because of weather and politics....

then we opted for Cornwall, Ontario and then i saw the weather update...not good a foot of snow or more...

so that is when we opted for Valleyfield, Qc.....My Dad lived there as a child, we had a VR there for some years and it is still an area we enjoy...

First off here some things I left....

I was tempted by the fondue plates...
I have been craving cheese fondue and chinese fondue...

Nice Corelle teapots plus a Pyrex coffee pot

I had never seen plastic Cinderella bowls...Unknown maker.

Those kitties were a hoot but too expensive at $10 each....

The 4 bowls were $20. A good price but I already have them..

These are the goodies that came home with me....

A large Fireking Jadeite bowl, a stainless steel tissue box cover,
a vintage S&P set (corn) , a vintage tin and a big beer glass.

The shakers were .50 the pair, the tissue box cover was $5 (great because retail they
sell for $30-$35), the tin and the glass were free....
My biggest find was the bowl!
That dealer had no idea what that was and he let me have it for
$5. Yes $5!!!! WOOT!

I'm keeping the bowl for the time being....

Here's a close up from the tin....

It felt really good to go for a car ride, to thrift, to hang out....
NICE!

Till next time!

Catching up!

Wow! Already September 18th!

Back in late August, I celebrated my 51st birthday. That is such a strange number, I feel 35 years old at most!

I got beautiful and surprising gifts!

such as....

Yes faithful readers the Le Creuset gods gifted me a beautiful turquoise braiser .

in its original box no less!

This had been on my bucket list ever since I saw Jamie Oliver cook with one.
Dan said: I hope you won't get mad because it costs a lot of money...
Why would I get mad it is not my money after all!
Love it!

I also got lots of goodies from Vero, which I use and love!

This is so cute! it is a portable desk grill with all the accessories....
When life at the office is super dry and boring, I re-arrange it.

I've hated my Dad's fridge from the get go.

even if it was fairly recent, my Dad had it fixed twice and
all the veggies in the crispers would freeze anyways.

It was cracked inside and super noisy...
so it was not a big surprise when it went dead on
Labor Day!

It just made a lot of noise and stopped cooling on top.
The freezer kept freezing, thank god!

We managed to keep our food cool with the help of our back up fridge
(downstairs) and a cooler.
I have to tell you that going down the stairs
15 times to prepare dinner was a real bummer!

Here is the new fridge
I love it but it is not the one I wanted...
It just didn't fit!

new fridge smell, even better than new car smell!

Sleep tight!

This week in thrifting

This has been quite a surprising week in thrifting!

On wednesday in the my fave church basement I found a rocking vintage stainless steel french canister set! I've been wanting one for quite a while!

It has a couple of scratches but other wise in pretty good shape
and the price was right!

Today was a big yard sale day here and we were in the car bright and early.

We found this

A brand new unopened collapsible cooler set -2$
We used those a lot, to go dancing,thrifting,shopping....
We almost always carry water and snacks everywhere we go and the ones we have are pretty
sad now.

I bought this book with Dan in mind and I'm sure it will be consulted often because it's a DIY
book on 60's furniture!
 Here's a closeup
SWEET!

A vintage Tupperware and 4 micro brewery glasses.

2 Stella Artois glasses for my fave sister in law
who reads the blog.
I hope these are like the one you broke.

A sweet carnival butter dish

A vintage aluminum lunch box with.....

2 View Masters with a lot of slides
COOL!

A green refrigerator dish, vaseline glass maybe?

I love that lid!

It was in the middle of children's games and clothes!

Dan also got a shoe rack but it's still in the car.

No Pyrex sighting, but you never know what I'll find tomorrow!

Be well my thrifty friends,
I'm off to start supper!

Slowly but surely...hehehe

Whooohoooo! I installed the spot in the kitchen!
Props to me!!! Logically the concept of electricity is relatively easy....Black wire to black wire, white to white, ground to ground...But installing light fixtures in a old house...another story!
So whenever I have to do it (I'm the house electrician and plumber) I shake in my underwear!
So I'm really proud of myself, I did it!!! I have to install a 3 spot track, but I don't know to which breaker those wires are attached to because they sit in a hole in the ceilling and have been that way for 8 or 9 years....And the guy or gal that wired the house was a joker for sure...I explain: By turning off the breaker to install that spot, I turn off my electric alarm clock in my bedroom on the second floor....How's that for funny? So I figure I'll have to buy a thing-a-majing to check if the current is running in those wires....LOL
Like my father would say: It keeps you occupied!
Dad is in Milano,Italy ,working and coming back next week. I can't wait! I really miss our nearly daily chats!!!
Guess what? I have to go and paint something !
