Out thrifting....

I haven't been thrifting in a long time...I would like to say forever, but that is just not true

Saturday we decided to go on a road trip...first Lake Placid...changed our minds because of weather and politics....

then we opted for Cornwall, Ontario and then i saw the weather update...not good a foot of snow or more...

so that is when we opted for Valleyfield, Qc.....My Dad lived there as a child, we had a VR there for some years and it is still an area we enjoy...

First off here some things I left....

I was tempted by the fondue plates...
I have been craving cheese fondue and chinese fondue...

Nice Corelle teapots plus a Pyrex coffee pot

I had never seen plastic Cinderella bowls...Unknown maker.

Those kitties were a hoot but too expensive at $10 each....

The 4 bowls were $20. A good price but I already have them..

These are the goodies that came home with me....

A large Fireking Jadeite bowl, a stainless steel tissue box cover,
a vintage S&P set (corn) , a vintage tin and a big beer glass.

The shakers were .50 the pair, the tissue box cover was $5 (great because retail they
sell for $30-$35), the tin and the glass were free....
My biggest find was the bowl!
That dealer had no idea what that was and he let me have it for
$5. Yes $5!!!! WOOT!

I'm keeping the bowl for the time being....

Here's a close up from the tin....

It felt really good to go for a car ride, to thrift, to hang out....
NICE!

Till next time!

Fall & Winter 1975

On Saturday we jumped in the car for a day of thrifting which was pretty much ampered by endless buckets of rain, so no garage sales.

We made it nevertheless to Gananoque, Ont home of the Gananoque Flea market.

I scored 2 Eaton's catalogs from 1975 and 1976. Now let's see...I was 10 years old in 1975 and even if I remember some of the UGLY fashions, I had no idea how ugly it all was.

So basically it's an endless source of post topics!

Being a Pyrex maniac, I was of course, eager to find some. There was none.

Instead I found this...

Corning Ware galore!

Now I'm surprised they made so much stuff with the Spice'O' life pattern...A spice
cabinet? A spice rack, a letter holder, a paper towel holder?
I also find some pieces quite expensive for 1975. The 9 cup percolator was $21.95!
And what about the Corelle dish set at the bottom?
A 20 piece set was $37.95.
Ans the minimum wage wasn't that much in 1975 so that was a pretty big hunk of change for some dishes.
The patterns? Butterfly Gold, Spring Blossom Green and Old Town Blue.

That's it for me, sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite!

Sweet Thrifty Finds

Since we have 6 mouths to feed now (Our cats plus Bambino and Piccolo Nero; the strays that come visit); I find that I'm constantly washing saucers so it was high time I head to the Salvation Army for some thrifty goodness.

I did ask the thrift Gods for some Corelle saucers, some Pyrex and cool stuff! Ans my wishes came through!

 8 Corelle saucers
A kick ass 502 Canadian Delphite fridgie
and a super cool vintage cheese cutter.

Everything was dirt cheap; the Pyres was .49 cents, SWEET! And all for me!

Yes I realize that this is my third Delphite 502; I just can't help myself..If I had to get rid of all the Pyrex i would keep the Delphite, I can't live without it, I guess it's the colour.

Have  a great night

Thrift bounty!

Welcome Katrina! Thank you for becoming my 168th follower! I loved you comment, too bad you're not in Canada! LOL
It's always fun to thrift with a like minded pal. Speaking of thrifting....I went to the Salvation Army and Renaissance.
I'm always flabbergasted by the cruddiness of the big Salvation Army on Notre-Dame street. Every time I go I touch something and my hand is sticky after...EEEWWW! I'm thinking I should bring plastic gloves and look even weirder than usual! In the meantime Dan put some anti-bacterial towelettes in my Xmas stocking....Such a good idea!

No Pyrex in sight but....some nice Spring Blossom Green cups and a cream & sugar set in the same pattern, delicious!

How fresh and springlike! I'm thinking giveaway....

I also found a Pyrex 043 lid and a portable and adorable vintage ironing board. I forgot to take a pic....rats

After I met up with the Danmeister and we decided not to go to the movies afterall; we were too tired and achy (no real reason, maybe a cold?) ...we decided to head home by the scenic route and  stop for some grub along the way.

But before we got on the road a snack was in order (yes I know the diet :(). We stopped @ the Green Spot, a Montreal institution on Notre-Dame street. This place has been here forever at least since the 30's. They make the best greasy french fries (une graisseuse in joual). In case you don't know joual is the french canadian slang spoken in Montreal. Since this is such a vintage landmark I decided to whip out the camera and take some pics to share with you.

Old sign offering poutine and other delicacies...

@ one time the hotdogs were actually 20 cents! OMG

An order of greasy french fries like this is best shared in the car!

We headed west our fingers greasy and our souls satisfied to Verdun. While on Wellington st I asked to stop at Rennaissance and I even added: Why do I bother they NEVER have good stuff!

Boy was I in for a surprise!

I squealed with glee when I found this big Ziploc bag filled with vintage cake decor! For every occasion,Valentine's, Easter,Mother's day,Halloween, Xmas and ballerinas...I even have some clown heads.

A great illuminated tree top from the 70's

Some great vintage ornements! They will make a super addition for the store!

Speaking of clowns....I've never liked clowns. NEVER. I would cry when I saw some at the circus, I would cringe when I laid my eyes on those clown paintings from the 70's and the coup de grace was when I saw Stephen King's It on tv. Clowns give me the willies!
I watched the premiere of Mr Sunshine, which I found really funny, and there was a bit with clowns, axes, the director being scared shitless of clowns and little kids. I nearly peed my pants I laughed so hard!
So good luck with your new show Matthew Perry! Because when I really like a show, it's always cancelled. Except Supernatural....Go figure! The networks should pay me....
I also watched thursday night episode of Jersey Shore (yes I'm guilty of incurable tackiness and voyeurism). et me tell you something, Ronnie is DANGEROUS! If I'd been there when he started throwing things around, I would've called the police. Sammy is not better and come to think of it all of these young people have become really violent at one time or another since the show began which makes me wonder what kind of values did their parents teach them? And what kind of message this is sending to all the kids who watch the show?
Ok so I've said my peace! Have a great afternoon, I hope you find delicious things in your thrifting expeditions. I will practice some new dances for the line dance Valentine's day party tonight!

Good news and Bad news....

Ok the bad news first. We forgot Henry at home! Can you believe that??? We left him HOME ALOME with the cats...As per Pinotte (peanut) the tuxedo cat, he was really a handfull, like Elfs Gone Wild. She took a lot of pics, it's ugly people...But that's for another post....

Pinotte (Peanut) as she spills the beans....about Henry's behavior.

The good news is we had an amazing time and we did score some nice stuff. No burning villages, no pillaging I promise...In total we spent 9.50$ check it out!

A 70's FireKing mug (as a rule i'm not a FK person but I loooove this mug!), a Corelle sugar dish to go with the creamer I already have (Spring blossom green Pyrex pattern) and for Dan's glass and barware collection a 1975 Kentucky Derby glass.
This is a 043 1 1/2 qt Pyrex casserole in a pattern I had never seen! WOW! Not being a huge fan of brown, I just took some pics. You are reading right! I took some pics and left it there, I did not suck all the Pyrex from Ontario!!!

Last but not least, this is the piece of resistance! A bit of background story before...it is 15h45 saturday afternoon, we're taking the long way home, the scenic route along the St-Lawrence Seaway. It is GORGEOUS!!! And in Prescott we see a little place with signs in the window: Let's make a Deal! Antiques and collectables. Ok now everything closes at 4 pm in Ontario on saturdays. So Dan says: You wanna stop?  I say: Why not??? And then we see it....The skies part and a ray of thrifting God sunlight shines on it and I hear angels singing.....

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!! Look at that! A pink hamper! It would be perfect for SD's(Step Daughter) new appartment (coming in July or August). I ask the guy for a price, fully expecting 50 or 60$$$. And he says....

He says....

4 dollars!!! ok I nearly fainted amongst all the Blue Mountain Pottery! SOLD I scream!!! And we put it in the car laughing!

ok that was my Saturday....Did I mention that the hamper is in super nice condition????

Have a sunny and bright week!

Tuesday's finds

It was very cold ,humid and grey last Tuesday in Montreal...Brrrrr!

I saw the same characters as I usually do...Don't ask me why, but the bulk of Salvation army shoppers I see are the same old chronies...lol

Anyways I found a 4 cup Pyrex Flameware coffee pot (without the insides), 2 Corelle saucer for the kitties and a Better homes and Garden book "Favorite ways with chicken" Those pictures are really funny today back in 1967 they were probably very chic and elegant! Ooohlala!!!
My Etsy boutique keeps me busy and non-vintage items I list on Ebay...Must clean the house!!! I made my first etsy sale Saturday and I was very excited! I hope I sell more things soon...:) This afternoon I will install my printer and try to scan things and print. I need to post some of those beautiful chicken pictures...lol
Have a nice day!

3.37$

From the Salvation Army of course! 1.99 for the Butterfly Gold bowl and .69 cents each for the Corelle Woodlands saucers. I use those saucers as food dishes for the kitties and to tell you the truth I love them. They are durable, don't complain in the dishwasher and pretty too! To tell you the truth my mom was kinf of snob and Corelle was...not for us, so I was brought up thinking Corelle were some kind of crappy dishes. Now I know better!!!
