Christmas Decor

Just a couple of blocks from where I live,
there is a tiny tyny Xmas market.

You have Adirondack chairs, Xmas trees and open air fires.
I love the smell of a wood fire.

There's also a heart with a rocking chair, but no Santa.
It seems everyone can be Santa....
NO! I
Xmas is Xmas! I want Santas, stars, baby Jesus, the virgin Mary
and the whole kit and caboodle!

 What is wrong with people?
You want to celebrate Hannukah? Kwanzaa? or Diwali?

GO AHEAD, BUT JUST LET ME CELEBRATE XMAS
THE WAY I LIKE IT!!!

For some reason, here in Montreal there is a lot of tension over Holiday
Decor....
Some town halls decided to take down their nativity scenes to avoid controversy and
some libraries took down their menorahs.

How about we just celebrate our own holidays in peace?

I prefer the melting pot and all its flavors!

After all variety is the spice of life!

On the thrifting front here are some pics of
tackylicious things I left behind!

I left them behind because there were kind of cruddy

 And broken and sad.
And that is too bad because they had a lot of
tackylicious potential!

And here is my 2015 Xmas tree!

The 2016 tree is taller.
I started decorating it today.

Picture to follow!

Sleep tight!

Who knew?

Who knew that in the greater Montreal area there is a real bona fide flea market?

No new socks, curd cheese or spice mixes....Just old treasures just the way I like them!

Love those phones

I think I'm in love with that ice cream cone

I never saw so many lucite lamps

That is so tackylicious!

And you know what else? Yes there was Pyrex, even some pieces I didn't have, but way out of my price range....
And you know what else? I can't wait to go back!

More WTF Xmas decor....

I was able to sneak a couple of pictures from the freaky carnival Xmas decor from my job's lobby....

Are you ready?

WTF? You know I don't go around saying WTF all the time, don't you? LOL

Just what were they thinking ? They look like caricatures of old people!

Just plain scary!

Sleep tight and dream of sugar plums...

Are you kidding?

I saw this commercial for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I just couldn't believe it!

You've probably seen it tons of times but I just can't help myself, I just have to share it!

Ok it looks confortable and warm but just how tacky is it? I kept imagining people I know answering the door wearing that; cooking, cleaning and even hanging out OUTSIDE!

With my cats I would look like a pink fuzzy ball....

Would you be wearing this at a tailgate? A football game?  I can't just hear the neighbors : Who is that big pink blob? Well it's Miss V of course installing her Xmas lights, how charming!

You can even go to the bathroom with the convinient hatch!

Have a great day and stay warm!

FTW? Tuesday! Big Ass Lampshades

Do you remember David Letterman and his big ASS hams? Well I felt the same way when I saw these!

By the way I'm joining Sir-Thrift-a-lot's party: FTW? Tuesday! If you see something weird/ tacky/inapropriate in a thrift shop snap it and join the tuesday party!

Here they are.....

I gasped when I saw this one high on a shelf and I just had to take it down (dust and all) and try to take a pic. That's why the picture is not that good...I just propped it on a display rack.
It looks like a Phentex medusa!

This one was probably knotted/crocheted or whatever by the same crazed crafter!

They are at least 24 inches across! Over what table would these fit? A banquet table?

I shudder at the thought of seeing these in action!

Be sure to vist Sir-Thrift-a-lot and all the other hawk eyed thrifters who spotted awful stuff!

The end of an era

I was really sad and disturbed to learn last monday that one of the area's 'landmark' burned to the ground.

The Miss Dorion motel is no more. This was the cheapest, ickiest dive of a motel and nude dancer bar.

I've blogged about it before. I don't know what fascinated me about this place....Was it this sign?

I have a feeling it's related to my side show fascination....

This was in better days.
Everytime we would drive by I had a wise crack remark to make. And on the rare times I failed to pass a comment Dan would ask me if I was ok.

Since the its demise I've learned that the nude dancers only arrived in the early 90's before it was some kind of show place.
When  I first saw it it not only had an inground pool and a chip wagon so you could catch some exotic dancing, hang around the pool and eat fresh french fries....How classy is that? LOL!
Last year it had a 'makeover'....the owners slapped some ugly ass siding and not on all sides of the building.

See? the siding looks like fake rock. This is a pic from August when the Miss Dorion had a minor fire.

Mind you I wasn't aware of that! It had been closed and for sale since then.
Last saturday I made a special detour to witness the damage.

Only the pool is left.

A big pile of rubble. It does smell like arson!

All gone!

I sure am gonna miss bitching about you!

Will a condo tower replace you? If so I'll be there with snide remarks ready!

WTF? Tuesdays!

Well folks this day has been crrrrrraaaaappppppy at best. But I always feel better coming home and hanging out with my loved ones and of course visiting my fave blogs.

So since it’s Tuesday it’s WTF? Tuesdays over at Sir Thrift-A-Lot! I always enjoy seeing ugly/scary/crappy/tacky things ,it goes perfectly with my sideshow side.

So here’s my offering this week. I hate clowns, I never found them funny and some are sad while other give me the hibbyjibbies, think It by Stephen King.

I can’t believe that someone actually designed this for a child’s bedroom. Thank god that my parents didn’t buy that for my room! I’d have been even longer in therapy!

Well that's it for this week! Sleep tight and don't let the clowns bite!

Retro Tuesday: More of the World's Tackiest Postcards

Happy Retro Tuesday to all! My first offering is not only tacky it's in BAD taste, but I just couldn't resist! Just what is life without bad taste? We need bad taste so we know what tasteful is like!

Lautenberg Laboratories is the leader in controlled environment Beta testing for the personnal hygiene and pharmaceutical industry. Providing clinical, laboratory and random field testing for both consumer as well as idustrial products. Ask your rep for details. FDA approved.

You know I didn't make that up! I'm looking for a job but not this one!LOL

On to more tacky and less bad taste...

Why pay more? When you can have that rich look of wallpaper, without the cost! DecorWall goes on easy. It's fun and economical too!
It seems that you put ink or pait in the thingamagig and roll it on the wall. I would so use it! 'coz wallpaper is making a comeback... Here in Canada we have this reality home decor show called Colin & Justin Homeheist . Those guys are particularly fond of wallpaper, and not the discreet stuff...The BIG PATTERN wallpaper. So click on the link and check out a couple of videos. It seems us canadians are totally in love with them....I like their designs however I find them a bit much for the regular folks. They come in like 2 tornados and redo 3 rooms...what about the rest of the house??? You're stuck with your old stuff and 3 hyper stylish rooms with wallpaper....I tell you not for everybody....

And last but not least and neither tacky nor tasteless is this little gem

A lovely weekend Bar-be-que. Now this is how a picture a saturday at the Casablanca Hotel & Resort. Hot dogs and iced tea then a nice movie at the drive-in! Heaven I tell you!

For more interesting, retro and sometimes tasteless fun be sure to hop to Crazy Suburban Mom and say hi to my friend Tracy!

Retro Tueday: World's Tackiest Postcards

Today's Retro Tuesday is brought to you by a weird book I bought AGES ago: The World's Tackiest Postcards. Published in 1987 by Klutz Press. It's a 80's Novelty book, you know the kind...

.I don't remember exactly where I bought it, but it was surely from a second hand book store. We had a great one in Montreal on St-Antoine av. near Old Montreal, it was called the Book Nook. It was a great od place, with squeaky wood floors and lots of dust and books and chairs. You could litterally spend a sunday afternoon just hanging out. It closed a couple of years ago.
So this is a book of postcards that you can remove and mail your friends and family....Some are TOO much....

Does not look good to me....That one is from the Mariner's Restaurant Fishboil near Fort Bay Ohio. Their slogan? You will surely say, it is the BEST in Fort Bay! Well, Fort Bay people I feel for you! It looks so boiled!

What about this one? It's for Marathon's DINE/OUT cartons....It looks more like a TV diner to me...Oh Well!

This is one of my favorites! Poor guy he loks so not there! He is stuck in the ugly motel dimension....UGH!
Actually it is a post card for the Del-Ray Motel 2 miles wet of Indianapolis on Route 40. Bathrooms feature 'SaniKleen Protection'. Friendly People.

Night or Day-Stay Del-Ray!
Such a catchy tune!

Have a great Retro Tuesday! And be sure to visit my funny and retro friend Tracy @ Crazy Suburban Mom
