YYYYUUUUMMMM!!!!

This is Mac & Cheese week in Montreal, Quebec and Toronto!

Of course they want us to celebrate mac & cheese and to fork up $20 for a plate!

Me? I decided to cook some homemade mac with the addition of Portuguese smoked bacon....

In Pyrex of course!

This recipe is definitely a keeper (I have to write it down!)

Twitter Beware

I read my twitter feed a couple of times a day to keep up to date, read witty tweets and get new recipes.

On Sunday afternoon I spotted this recipe .

Avocado, eggs and bacon .

I said to Dan, I need to try this for breakfast tomorrow!!! It looks delicious...avocado good, cheese good, egg good, bacon good.

Since the recipe called for cooked bacon, i fried up some bacon and pulled out an avocado from the fridge.

Yesterday morning, I pre-heated the oven and started wrestling with the avocados. The recipes asks us to put the avocado halves on top of a muffin tin otherwise the eggs will spill...

Well GOOD LUCK with that! I tried and next thing I know the hole I made is not big enough and the white spilled on the counter and in the muffin tin....Finally I balanced the halves on milk glass cups in tin foil plates.

I was really excited to try this, the cheese was golden, the bacon looked crunchy....

And then I took a spoonful and scooped out some and ate it.

OMG WHAT THE HECK IS THAT??? IT TASTES OF DIRT!!!

I couldn't believe what was happening...the warm avocado tastes like crap...okay dirt

It was a bit better with cheese and bacon but a total fail overall.

Don't people test recipes anymore?

And to think of all those people who loved it on Twitter and Pinterest!

Sorry but from now on no warm avocado for me

(Just the thought of it makes me gag...)

At the thrift

I don't have access to a lot of thrift shops... some are easily acccessible, some OMG, it takes a lot of planning to go!

Last Thursday I went to Renaissance in Verdun. This place is truly a haven for weirdos, yours truly included , except I don't sniff dishes and I try to not thrift'n'fart!

So this is what I found

From what I could gather from ebay this is a zulu lulu glass (right) with friend.
Made in the 50's by Federal Glass.

These are not politically correct at all but great fun. The irony? the cashier at the thrift was from Haiti and didn't even bat an eye, LOL.

Dan was thrilled to add to the barware collection!

Now I got this for me and the living room as I think it goes perfectly with the 60's theme!

I think this was a pudding dish. My parents had wine glasses from this set in Amber.
I think you could buy them from the Eaton's catalog.

It looks beautiful with a Patchouli from Yankee Candle.

Lovely!

(It seems I got my blogging mojo back, fingers crossed!)

I'll Have a Side of Cream Corn with....

With my FIFTEEN DOLLAR bread!

First I want to thank warmly all of you great gals who commented on yesterday's post! I had great fun reading your views.

For my long time reader Grunge Queen: I'll take the dare and go back next week and ask: Why is the bread soooo expensive and how come they don't bake the bread on the premises and I'll try to take picture before they throw me out; because real french people get real weirded out if you diss what they do (and I've been thrown out by crazy french people before)
By the way if you find realy expensive bread in the UK do share please!

On my way to work I passed La Queue de Cheval Steak House (the Pony Tail) and saw this....

What stikes at first glance is the price and then my eye drifts to the actual side....

24$ for the mushroom trio; if you buy those fresh at the supermarket you spend let's say 6$ and make a couple of plates.....

All the sides are super expensive when you consider that you already paid at least 50S for a steak and if you want a veggie the cheapest is.... Either a plain baked potato or a pickles for SIX DOLLARS!

Do you want to see what we got for less than a bread and a side of cream corn?

Okay this picture looks totally white trash! The dead leaves, the pack of cats,
the blowmolds in limbo (before they make it to the shed), the above ground pool and the 20$ avocado vintage chair for our 60's living room!

It was quickly adopted by the cats. It will be cleaned and de-crappyfied before entering the home.

So let's do the math! FIFTEEN DOLLARS for a bread, TWELVE DOLLARS for cream corn equals TWENTY SEVEN DOLLARS. Substract the price of the chair (20$) and I have SEVEN DOLLARS  left over to buy a box of Kraft Diner and some ground chuck for a lovely un-complicated lunch.

Mind you it's not gourmet.....but it will do nicely for us until we feel the urge to slurge!

Have a great night and watch out for EIGHT DOLLAR broccoli!
