And it was really time that dime fell ! I live in Quebec....At one point the temperature will fall and vegs will stop growing.
I've had a veggie garden for 10 years plus and I always try to wait until the last possible minute until I dig everything out...Crazy!
So last Saturday I decided to rip all the tomatoes out, because they won't grow anymore...Tomatoes do not like the cold...
So I kept all the big tomatoes (I will monitor them everyday) and all the cherry tomatoes that showed some sign of ripenning...
So with h etomatoes gone I am able to let the kale grow a bit longeras well as the arugula
And I was really happy to see that the spicy yellow pepper was showing signs of re-growth!
So I might get acouple of peppers before the frost!
Next year I will plant less tomatoes and more beans!
Sleep tight :)

So Soon
I can't believe how fast summer flew by!
It seems that just weeks ago I was planting tomatoes....
Yesterday was downright cold...7 Celsius (44 F)....BRRRR and cloudy. We worked all day outside, closing the veggie garden, mowing the lawn, cleaning the shed....
Here's some of the last harvest
This was strange....
A garden lamp with fake flowers added on
I think it is meant to put near a grave...
The really freaky one .....to tell you the truth I was not confortable
taking pics,,,,,It is a swag with a light meant to sit on top of the
tombstone.....with fake flowers of course....
(Me NO like)
Right now we are debating to start the furnase or not...
The NO side won so right now we will be wearing an extra
layer!
Back to DWTS.....who did you like? who you didn't?

So not too bad for a 6 by 3 box.
We actually got about 7 cukes and the cheery tomatoes will be plentiful.
I will need to bring all the other tomatoes inside to ripen because all are green.
Next year I will plant less tomatoes and more beans....
And now for some sight from the Morrisburg, Ont flea market....
A large doll head in a rain barrell
This is a must have for Halloween!

Remember This?
Do you remember my puny veggie patch?
I believe i planted or sowed it on July 2nd.
So this how it loows today.
It is guarged by the friendly gargoyle...
I have never had such beautiful basil! So excited!
And of course I used the basil in my favorited summer time lunch....Basil,tomatoes,boconccini
So fresh!
I also took the opportunity to cut some flowers for a seasonnal bouquet. It is one on my fave
summer past time.
Echinecea and Queen Ann Lace... so summery. And I like to use unlikely vases like this enamel box.
I put a big glass in it for the flowers to protect it from rust.
So I wish you a very enjoyable weekend my faithful readers, be weel and keep on thrifting!!!

But we did not whip up a batch of cement.... we watched TV! Viva Vacation!
So I successfully canned a jar of pickled garlic for the winter.
The new veggie garden is 2/3 done
I am waiting for a pool tech to change the filter....
fingers crossed I want to swim before the vacation is over...
This is the MVP (Most Valuable Pyrex) this week!
My Red Kettle serving plater ; I used it everyday this week
And since we ae working out side a lot, we need a lot of refreshments....
And I made giant ice cubes in sillicone cupcake liners with cranberries, lemons and limes.
So refreshing!
I hope to be back soon with more updates!
Be well

Heavenly weekend
For close to 10 days we have been having a whopper of a heat wave...So this means...wait for it....NO RAIN!!!
Isn't that fantastic?
Well it depends...the summer so far has been sooo crappy that I'm not adjusted to the heat at all! I'm just like a big puddle of water. Everything makes me sweat, including brushing my teeth! The AC is doing his best...but you know!
The garden is growing like crazy. You blink and everything is bigger.

I'm really excited about the first pic! It's an ancho chile (at least I hope it is...). Remember when the names on the markers had disappeared? If it's an ancho, it's so cool 'coz I've been trying to make some grow without succes for 3 years (They wouldn't even sprout)
Second pic is a pepperoncino, I'm sure because I grew some last year. Those are really tasty peppers, tons of flavor no heat, and last but certainly not least the butternut squash. How I love thee! If all goes well, I should have between 5 and 10. It is difficult to tell because the squashes have taken over! I can't walk between the raised beds, I might squash a squash!
I'm so witty I kill myself. Ok now to the heavenly part....We had no plans, no social,no visit and no thrifting (Yes too hot to thrift!), so we just vegged out, read, and floated in the pool. I felt totally rejuvanated this morning!
For my readers in a heat wave keep cool! For those who have minivans with diapers (you know who you are!) stay dry....

Firsts
After weeks and what seems like months waiting (remember the tree guy?) I'm starting to see the first veggies!
That is sooooo cool! The squash is a mystery vegetable: during the winter I just throw my veggie cuttings directly in the garden and I have surprises the next summer! I think it's an acorn.
Even if I start my plants from seed, I always cheat and buy a couple of tomato plants, this is a pink one. I didn't want to buy any this year because I had a lot of tomato seedlings. Unfortunatly I broke 2 when I transplanted them, the stem just snapped (Bummer!).
I'm also starting to haevest ground cherries. I have a secret ground cherry fantasy. I want to have enough so I can make jam...Not going to happen this year!
I am by no means a really serious gardner, I do this for fun and if I can get veggies out of it, then I'm sooo proud of myself. But for now I try to weed a little bit everyday...I can't do it all at one I will go BONKERS!
'til next time....:)

Mock orange, mock orange how I love you so
Richard bloom took the picture, I found it at gapphotos.com.Here I was in my garden gathering some mock orange blooms for some bouquets (That sounds soooo like Martha!) and I said to myself : I'll post those pics in flickr....HELLO! HELLO! the lights are one but there's nobody home! I still can't do that, I still have the old rickety computer....LOL
I'm supposed to go get one over the weekend...Stay tuned for further developpements!
Back to the mock orange! I remember being 7 and running down my street, there was this big house with the biggest bush I'd ever seen and in June it would cover itself with the loveliest and purest white blooms, it's scent invading everything nook and cranny of the street. It also meant the end of school! I would stand on the sidewalk just smelling the sweet scent of mock orange and freedom!
When I got my house (The beige one lol!). I wanted to plant a mock orange but couldn't find one in the garden centers. By accident on an Ontario roadtrip I stopped at a hill side garden center and found a whole lot of them! Of course I brought one home!
We would run around the yard trying to find a good place for it. Of course we picked an awful place! LOL! The bush is doing fine but it's blocking (in part) the way to the side door of the fence....And I feel it's too big to try and move it ( I wouldn't want to kill it).
Veggie garden update: The tomato plants are in the soil, as are the ground cheeries, the peppers (pepperoncini, ancho and sweet pickles),the basil, the pumpins, the acorns, the butternuts and the cantalopes, the cucumbers have been sowed (lemon, white, summer breeze). Oh man that's a lot of veggies! I can't wait to see what happens since the big ol' branch is gone and the garden is now more than half the day in full sun!
Have a great weekend!
