Happy Canada Day!!!

To all my Canadian readers from coast to coast I wish you a wonderful Canada day!

Here in Quebec July 1st is MOVING DAY. Leases are usually 12 months and start on July 1st.

Which means that it is treasure day for a trash picker as myself....It is true that I try to limit the stuff I bring home because, let's face it my home is very well stocked, not to mention my Dad's apartment!

Today, returning from a fast trip to the corner grocer, I took the opportunity to visit the different piles of trash on my street....

Boy was I in for a MAJOR find! This is something I have been yearning for for several years....

And it was waiting for me lying on its side on top of a box of empty bottles....

A safe T blowmold ice cream cone!!!
OMG! I ran home as fast as I could holding it tight just
like a little girl squealing with delight!
I will be purchasing a lottery ticket this afternoon!

I got new sandals, half off with free delivery....
See how well my toes compliment the sandals?
And they are comfy! BONUS!

I had to call a company to clean my roof drain, I have a flat roof.

See the dark space in the middle of the picture?
I was informed that hole was home to rats....
RATS! EEEEEWWWWW!
The exterminator is coming Monday morning!
Earlier today while vacuuming we blew out a circuit but we can't reset it...
Oh well, I'll try to have an electrician early next week...

And no week is complete without a condescending email from the executor.
The good news is that I am choosing not to let it ruin my day and that I should be rid of her
by the end of September.

Another good news is that I have found the joy of blogging again!

Be safe, be well

and

Keep on thrifting!

Today

Today,

the sky was so blue I wanted to take a big bite out of it....

I was on the hunt for hot cross buns....
with no luck

It didn't matter the sun was shinning and I felt GREAT!

On the downside... As I write this post, it is snowing....

We might get 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 centimeters)

My winter boots are just within reach, just in case

Left at the thriftshop

It was slim pickings last night at the thrift shop but I saw a couple of beauties!

Music box with boy figurine broken and glued back up
and not very well I might add!

I'm guessing red carrots S & P, they were a good deal at .60 cents each but up close they were all scratched up so PASS!

Super cool percolator but no cord....PASS!

But saddest of all the sweet primary blue Pyrex 401 bowl
all dull and scratched from the dishwasher! PASS!

I got a small carpet (new) and some vintage napkins and placemats, but I didn't cleaned them so no picture.

TGIF! I can't wait to cook a turkey and veg out, amongst other things....

                                           Be well!

Old Loves and A Thrifty Find

Time flies in summer with all the garden chores...

Weed,weed,weed,harvest,weed,weed,weed,water,water, weed,harvest!

I was, however, able to take time and rediscover some old faves (i.e: some of the Pyrex I'd stashed and forgot about)

New Dots in blue a gift from Dad from The Brimfield Flea in Mass.
I'm always in awe the way light hits milkglass.

Stripes in blue (yep I forgot the real name of the pattern) Is it Pastel Stripes?
I'll look it up.
Again the light. It makes me all fuzzy inside

I'm glad I found you!

Now I thought I'd share some day to day Pyrex with you.
This is where some of my everyday Pyrex lives

Closer?

Huuuummm Pyrex!

I love me some Pyrex :)

How about a nice salad in Pyrex?

 This was super tasty!
Grape tomatoes, artichoke hearts, sliced black olives, green onions and green
and yellow beans fresh picked from the garden!
 Yummy!

OMG I almost forgot about the thrifty find!

Yes that is a lamp, a turquoise metal lamp.
Now Dan insists on placing the shade that way....but that leaves little room
for the light bulb!

Yes you're seeing right!

New from the Christmas Tree Shop in South Portland
$2.25!

I'm giddy every time I look at it !

Well that's it for me folks, sleep tight !

The Pigeon

This is one of the earliest thrifted items I remember...Let's see, July 1976 Ogunquit Maine a porch sale....
I was 11, the sun was shinning, the air had that brinny sea quality....I was happy, nothing could go wrong. Nothing went wrong that day either. I remember my Dad climbing the porch stairs to look at the merchandise, I was busy staring at the porch ceiling which was the loveliest shade of blue, just like the sky only paler...
First thing I knew the pigeon was ours. I think Dad paid 3$. It had damage, the tail was broken as was a twig from the nest. My Mom fixed it with a glue that turned yellow (ugh!) it looked awful. But that didn't stop me from staring at it for hours, I loved the color and the intricate nest, it looked so fragile, but had survived for such a long time!
Dad left but the pigeon stayed with it's ugly repair. When it was time for Mom to sell the house, I managed to 'steal' the pigeon and give it a new home. Mom didn't want me to take anything from the house, my aunt convinced her otherwise but I only was able to take some trinkets. Everything went to charity. Sometimes I feel sad because of all the treasures that were lost. I sure hope that they made people happy!
Anyways I soaked the pigeon in hot water, was able to remove the glue, and repaired it with crazy glue. Now it looks so much better 33 years later! I also found out that it was made by Westmoreland. I love the blue milkglass pigeon!
