Life goes on

Saturday we brought back the wheelchair as it is no longer needed.

that feels so good! We can move one from there, a new chapter begins.....

That took a big old five minute from my life!

i gently coaxed Veronica (my stepdaughter) to stop at a thrift store nearby...

And I am so glad I did!

By chance I found 3 things I love......

A car throw...100% wool and in great condition!
I very rarely turn down good condition blankets and throws.
They are always handy when you live in an old house in a cold climate!

 If you've been following
the blog for a while you might remember that I had an Etsy
shop and that I sold quite a few Le creuset snail dishes...
I have regretted this for a llllllooooooooonnnnnngggg time!
So I was super excited to find one for a dollar....I am sure I will find 3 other fairly soon.

so since I have being jonesing for snails with garlic butter I bought 4
stainless steel dishes for a dollar

It even says Le Creuset!

Last but not least as seen in the first picture, a Old Orchard Beach souvenir glass!
It is so tackylicious and I had to get it a total no brainer...
I got no flack from the boo because they are small items and Barware is always a go...
I am not the only one jonesing for some snails.....

On a more somber note....

yesterday January 28th marked the second anniversary of my Dad's death.
I had a long talk with him.
I miss him everyday and talk to him most everyday. The big heavy duty sadness is mostly gone, but I had an episode in late December.
What I do now is whatever thing I am doing that my Dad would enjoy...I think about him, or I chat with him.

So this is the beginning of my first year as a homeowner in Montreal.
I got my first municipal tax invoice today. Made calculations so we can pay them on time.
as much as I did not want to be a homeowner again....God decided otherwise and I will do my very best to honor him.

I am very excited as we made plans to paint and renovate (cheaply) one room at a time!

My faithful readers, take time to enjoy each day
and hang out with your loved one

Winter Art

On my lunchtime walk....

I had to go Xmas shopping....on my way, I was taken aback by this whimsical art installation.

It is at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Don't you think they look like cattails ?

Would like to drive by at night to see what they look like.....

So these are the things I picked up at the thrift shop...

CORSAGES! XMAS CORSAGES!

WOOHOO!

They were originally sold at Shopper's Drugmart a big drugstore chain in Canada

The owner before me had put some tie wraps to hang them in the tree...

The green one isn't a corsage but an ornament....

 So
take makes 3 corsages and one ornament. sweet for $2.00

I am really happy with those finds since 2016 has been dismal in the
thrifting area!

Be well my thrifty friends

Seen Around

So yesterday we took a car load of treasures to Brockville, Ontario.

I know, I know we have thrifts in Quebec, but for the most part I think volunteers don't know anything about vintage and throw stuff away if it is not new enough. I heard : Throw it out it's junk! more than once in the last few months....

Which might explain why my garage sale didn't go so well....

I had made the promise not to buy stuff unless it was A MUST! A Pyrex I've been looking for or something we need...But I took pictures....

A beer cap wising well....wat floors me is not that someone drank all that beer....but that person had the vision to keep them all and build an ugly ass wishing well!

But it was all made from Molson Canadian beer caps! How patriotic!

 As you might know, I have a HUGE vintage astray addiction....And I am a non-smoker (go figure).But
this one gave me the wheelies....It looked like a sci-fi  creature....

Tis I really liked and nearly dragged home...Miss V take a deep breath and remember the promise....

I also like tacky travel souvenirs and what better than this tacky tray from the Notre Dame de Lourdes
sanctuary in Rigaud, Quebec....It is near my house!

That bowl was unmarked but really sad looking....so I will give it its 2 minutes of fame....

I really like this fondue kit, all bright, orange and vintage....and quite a steal at $4.99! The promise, the PROMISE!
A sweet Fireking casserole waiting for a home....Now even if I am not a huge fan of Fireking I love this pattern...

I like the look of a vintage globe I find that the $24.99  price tag was ridiculous!

We had great fun and a great day and can't wait to pack more boxes!

Left behind

During my amazing vacation I thrifted I had the chance to thrift at a nearby place that I hadn't been in ages!

They had renovated, it was less dingy and definitelt sweet smelling! Always a plus for thrift shops!

Here's what I saw...

The Federal dish with the lid is one of my all time fave! Yes I know, I'm betraying Pyrex....
But a girl can LOVE all the glassware she wants!!! It had some wear to the design...so no go.

For some reason, I'm seeing a lot of corn themed dishes lately....This is an ashtray, but I also saw
a S&P set and a plate.
I remember a time when I would totally go gaga for those folksy country prints....
                           Not anymore!

They had a wall of Barbies ....If I were 8 years old, I would have passed out!
For sure! I loved Barbies, all kinds, all sizes!

But being a good Pyrex Queen....I had to bring home those 2 Delphite lovelies!

The creamer I will eventually sell in my Etsy store and the saucer I will keep in case I break one of mine...

My first back at work went better than expected. And to tell you the truth even if the money isn't that great ...There are plenty of more stressful places to work.

I just wish it was closer to my neck of the woods...or I have to move closer to the job....

This weekend I'll be doing some light plumbing, some digging, movie watching and landscaping!

Celebrate!

Sunday

Don't you love Sunday?

I DO!

I get to visit with Joel Olsteen, veg out, hang out with the cats, cook and watch movies on TV.

Today I I tried a new breakfast recipe...for Canadian Farmhouse Eggs

It was a delicious mix of egg, potato, ham salsa and chili sauce

                                             Here's the link HERE
Now of course I changed the the recipe: I used ham instead of canadian bacon, I mixed salsa with chili sauce (because I was certain the recipe called for salsa) and one egg per casserole instead of 2. It was delicious!

Now from the thrift store....Can you believe this Tupperware container without a lid.....

                                                    For this price????

                Ok last but not least....
This is a seen around picture

This poor chap didn't have a chance!

Now i've been thinking and talking about Halloween lately....
I remember when I was a kid, you just had to have a carved pumpkin with a candle and you
were in business.
My mom would hand out: Peanuts in the shell, molasses taffy, bubble gum, rockets and lollipops.

Individual chocolate bars were virtually unheard of....You had to go in the really rich neighborhoods to get these....

Today I read that in North America we spend 6.1 BILLIONS in Halloween candy!

Isn't that crazy???

And kids are going hungry

Go figure

It makes me sad

Thrifted! I love surprise thrifting!

Really! Who doesn't?

So last Friday on our way to my official B-Day dinner, I stopped at my usual thrift joint...

I was happy that the bag check lady was not at her post...the locals were calm and smooth....

And I found these gems!

                                               oooooohhhhhh! Amazing blowmold action!

Who knew Santa had blue eyes??? Not me!

Le Creuset escargot dishes. I see quite a lot of scratched and used
Le Creuset but usually  escargot dishes are spotless because let's face it
people don't serve snails that often.

and finally a Pyrex 2 cups glass measuring cup. I had a Fireking one that
cracked and died not so long ago, so cool buy for a buck.

I hope to post again soon about my B-Day supper....
Culinary heaven.

Where was I ?

                                 There was some Pyrex sightings....

More Pyrex? Yes siree bob!

Overpriced scrappy blowmolds

Fabulous glassware and

and amazing barware?

Well I was in Maine for a long weekend.

It was beautiful and restorative as usual.

It is was my soul needed.

I didn't buy anything in the pictures.

Nothing , nada. I did find some cool stuff but I can't seem to find it.

We arrived late on Tuesday night, I worked Wednesday and we are still not unpacked!

Oh well, things to do on the weekend!

Thrifted

Aaaaahhhhh! the thrill of the hunt and the joy of the find!

Thrifting has been to an all time low here...but last Friday I was gifted a trip to Renaissance courtesy of crazy ass traffic....

Here's what I found!

A sweet vintage cookie tin for my collection

A sunshiny yellow Melmac cream and sugar set

A vintage icing seringe with 6 different tips

I saw a Xmas blowmold that I didn't have....a teddy bear. The price was pretty steep and the condition so-so; so I leftt it there!

I hope to find a new one soon :)

                              Be Well

Found at the thrift

Saturday after the periodical hair makeover...

On the way home, there is a thrift and I can never seem to remember the name...It is really called Hope crossroads or crossroads of hope; of course I'm translating loosely.

Of course I'm always full of hope...Well you never know...

A big pile of computer carcasses

                                           A nest of forest fancies

 I couldn't resist Pyrex

The 502 for 2$, the 501 for .25$ and  the
beaker for 1$

I'm starting to see more and more lab glass in my neck of the woods and I like it.

Here's a picture of lab glass in action.

A nice way to make the plant cuttings grow.

See you soon :)

I have a date with my pillow zzzzzzzz

Left at the thrift shop

As usual when you go to the thrift shop; in this case the Salvation Army; You see cool stuff that you will have to leave there for various reasons.

Trophies!

I love these but we simply don't have room for them.

This dart trophy ashtray was the bomb, but seriously how many ashtrays can 2 non-smokers
have in their house? REALLY?

And it was $8.00.

 Nice but no cigars...

This was a big Quebec singing star in the 50's & 60's.

I wanted one of those mini tvs sooooo bad.

I wonder what kind of shows I could tune in.

Last but not least replacement knitted cuffs.
WOW! Nowadays we usually just throw the garment out not repair it.

They're from East Orange NJ...cool

Well that's it for my trip to the Salavtion Army.
They are renovating and managed to get rid of their trademark smell (bastards)
We all know that the smell makes the shopping experience! That and finding prized treasures!

And as usual I nearly got in a fight. The Salvation Army on Notre-Dame street is head quarters to
loonyville....I don't always relate well to rude, crazed people.

Well it is that it is.

Be well, take care and have a nice week!
