We DID it!!!

This week it will be 2 months since the move....

We are making the space our own, but it is a slow process. My Dad still has some boxes here and slowly but surely we are bringing them downstairs.

We achieved 2 big, I mean BIG things over the weekend....

First we unpacked the last boxes...

 All GONE!
In less than 2 months! 300 boxes!!!

I alos had one of those AHA! moments
And (get ready for this) it dawned on me
that I just had too much Pyrex.
(WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?)
I was opening the last boxes and I was choking under the weight of the Pyrex!
I NEVER thought it would happen.
Oh well! I will be keeping a lot but only
my super fave patterns. And that doesn't include those
Verde casseroles....

I spotted this beautiful tree today on Ste-Catherine street.
The yellow leaves against this bright blue sky just make my
heart sing!

Good night folks!

Thrifted

Aaaaahhhhh! the thrill of the hunt and the joy of the find!

Thrifting has been to an all time low here...but last Friday I was gifted a trip to Renaissance courtesy of crazy ass traffic....

Here's what I found!

A sweet vintage cookie tin for my collection

A sunshiny yellow Melmac cream and sugar set

A vintage icing seringe with 6 different tips

I saw a Xmas blowmold that I didn't have....a teddy bear. The price was pretty steep and the condition so-so; so I leftt it there!

I hope to find a new one soon :)

                              Be Well

I burned carrots!

I can't believe this happened to me, I surely had a brain fart!

I was making turkey pot pie and they were asking for frozen carrots which i never buy...

so I decided to partially cook some in the microwave as I've done dozens of times.

So I go through the motions and after a while it smells like burned crap and I can't figure out what is going on until the microwave beeps and I open the door...

This picture speaks for itself...

eeeewwww

Even after an hour of soaking, the Pyrex is still stained

Oh well!

I foresee some roadtrip in the near future...

I will keep you posted friends!

Sleep tight

P.S: I saw my first blue heron yesterday and heard the first Canada geese...

Good times!

SPRING IS HERE!

Hostess with the mostest!

Time flies when you're having fun/try to fix the house/work full time/try to fix healthy balanced meals/want to blog/need to thrift and love tv!

I even managed to throw my back. I couldn't put socks on! LOL

Fall is definitely upon us and the temperatures are dipping. I don't want to be pessimisstic but I don't think I will break my record of taking a dip in the pool on Thanksgiving.

I'm also trying to list all I can in the shop before October, so I'm ahead of the Xmas rush....

Xmas! How I love thee. We are moving at work and they are cramping us all up so believe it or not there won't be anymore place for the Xmas decorations! CRAZY!

So they were giving it all away. I had fun rummaging through the bins and picked up a few goodies.

Now about the title...I haven't forgoten about my goal to show my Pyrex collection

So here are the Hostess casseroles....

Now I don't have a bracket...and I'm missing some like the black one....!

I would LOVE to find one

Maybe one day,

Maybe on a big roadtrip that is planned soon....

Have a great evening!

It's bedtime in Vonlipi land!

You asked for it!

Well here it is!

Do you see it?

Closer?

Introducing the 1969-70 Contempra phone by Northern Electric, a 100%
Canadian company. These little suckers are pretty hard to come by!
It is totally fonctional.

There is however a small problem....
Everytime it rings it is all cats for themselves and we have a giant stampede of scared cats!

So we decided it would be a decor element and you know how it is....
part of the living/dining room is not finished so we don't really know where it will end up!

On the another front, last night was our year end country line dancing party....

And our crafty friends Sharon and Rick brought some delicious (I kidd you not) homemade wine

That's my purple fan in the back

And homemade labels to boot!

It was a nice touch and made the evening even more special!
We laughed and danced till we couldn't dance no more!LOL

Gotta go!

I'm hearing the call of the wild....

The garden is beckoning :)

Retro Tuesday: I tried it and it was GOOOOODDDDD!

Good morning fantabulous thrifty readers! I have now 71 followers! Cool! Welcome everyone!

Today is more of a follow up...Remember a couple of weeks ago I did a Retro Tuesday post about Pyrex Prize Recipes? If not you can it HERE .

The BBQ chicken recipe was taunting me....Big time! Even if my pal Maureen thought the bird in the pic was about to take flight!

Even if the sauce recipe was a bit time consuming...lots of veggies to cut. I made the sauce in the morning before going to the postal counter of UNjoy. When I came home (5:20 pm) i threw the chicken with the sauce in Pyrex casseroles in the oven and presto chango- Supper!

The recipe called for  3 packages frozen chicken parts. I used drumsticks because they were on sale and let's face it there's only one bone to deal with. As I grow older I find i'm not to eager to find little bones in the sauce. Also It takes more than 1 hour total to cook. I'd say more like 1:30 total if you want fall of the bone goodness. And I removed the skin-who needs all that fat? I don't. Maybe you do, if so keep the skin!
It was even better reheated!
Don't expect real smoky BBQ flavor, the sauce is very pleasant but not BBQuy at all.
I might try it in the crockpot also....Erin, you up for it?
So the saying might be true that everything tastes better in Pyrex!

Oh by the way....It doesn't fit in that gorgeous yellow bowl...And the bird is about to take flight!LOL

Does look good! So on this scrumptious note....Have a very happy Retro Tuesday and do drop by my friend Tracy (The Declutterer) on her fab and funny blog Crazy Suburban Mom for more Retro fun.
And don't be shy faithful readers...link in! The more the merrier!

Thrifty Finds....Yellow

It seems that with the mild weather, people have started to clean their attics,basements,garages....And that is GOOD for us thrifters!
So yesterday I took the train to downtown Montreal and went to my fave thrifty haunt: The Salvation Army. First thing I noticed was that the shelves were full, full of interesting stuff...And not so interesting. I saw a medium size cardboard box (15x9x8 inches) full of those little soaps you get in hotels....unwrapped and dusty. Who donates that? If I worked at the SA I would've thrown that out big time! Would would buy that??? All wrapped up maybe... And then I saw it, I saw it in a big cart they put the stuff in before placing it in the shelves....

A pristine Pyrex yellow 503 fridgie! Oh my! Oh my! I squealed and knelt on the floor to grab it.OMGOMGOMGOMG! IT'S MINE,MINE,ALL MINE! DON'T EVEN LOOK AT ME OR AT THE DISH,DON'T COME NEAR MY CART YOU INGRATE!!! Ok that was a bit much, but it's basicaly what the Pyrex crazy woman in my head screamed. It was in better condition than the one I already had...so of course I had to take it home...
Also some mini yellow Syracuse China cups....Could they be for expresso??? They are so tiny! They would look great with a tiny plant inside.... and that strange star shaped glass mold with tiny legs and the word Queen Anne under and phoenix...could be used as a jello mold....It might be Glasbake but quite early
. It made me think of my Dad...he might have a fun story about that mold!

And last but not least....

3 little birdies to hang in the tree. They have aluminium clamps. One was missing a tail but I bet I can fix it....I'm guessing they are quite old, before 1950.And the best part is they were FREE!
FREE!FREE! My favorite word...GRATIS (french).
FREE stuff, FREE food,FREE booze....It's like music to my ears!LOL

Have a great weekend everyone! Don't stay in the sun too much!

The Barn

You know how you can walk or drive past something really extraordinary a gazillion times and not notice?

Well....it happened to us yesterday. After the dance class (which was so much fun by the way!)

We decided to grab a bite in Hudson maybe 15 minutes away and near our destination there it was....

A big old barn with opened doors and tatered flags, you know the ones, re,white and blue and writen 'Antiques' on them.

Unfortunately we could stop we were too hungry (line dancing really makes you work out an appetite)
So after a delicious lunch of roast beef sandwich au jus and key lime pie, we went back to the said barn. By the way the pics are front the 'backyard' of the Willow Place Inn in Hudson.

I was a bit apprehensive at first because it looked and felt like the Pick n Paw, remember the Pick n Paw? if not you you can read about it in this post http://vonlipisfavorites.blogspot.com/2009/09/pick-n-paw.html

It sure looked like it! All dusty and opened cupboards full of half full water bottles, an the guy said: if you have questions I'll be in the car...After the first few feet it became quite apparent that this was the bestest barn EVER! I believe all the collectibles were represented here! No joke!

I saw glasses, dishes,McCoy,Glasbake,LeCreuset, rolling pins, barware, lanterns, luggage, lamps, furniture, cups, decanters, boxes, tins, bottles, sports gear,Fireking and of course the big P...the Pyrex. I never knew such a gem existed so near! It was so full of stuff, I'm sure I missed some. The biggest concentration of Pyrex i had seen in a long time...I had to pick up my jaw from the floor!

And for a big barn by the side of the road it is surprisingly clean, I didn't see mouse poo! How does one keep this big space so clean? And no spider webs! The only problem was the lack of lighting...Next time we'll be sure to bring flashlights!!! I found these 2 little guys in great condition for a very fair price.
Less than I paid for one in Brimfield Mass....
I'll be back to the barn...fo'sure!

Lovely Gift

I had a wonderful day yesterday. We did the leisurely saturday morning tv watching thing....I love Sell This House!

I must be some kind of voyeur because I definiteley enjoy seeing the interior of people's homes and the bad decoration! But let's face it everything old is new again, so if you keep it long enough, it will be cool again.....someday!

I can't believe the quantity of tchatckies people have...and the family pictures! I can't talk too much because I have the tchatckies!!! And the Pyrex! Did you know I collect Pyrex???

Did you know I had Pyrexia? Real bad! Doctor, doctor gimme the news I gotta bad case of Pyrexia...No pill's gonna cure my ill...I gotta a bad case of Pyrexia!

We then went to a matinée, to see the newest play by one of our leading playwrights Michel Tremblay. No my favorite but it certainly got us talking, so the play did its job!

On to the Deer Garden for some awesome chinese food....Shrimp in lobster sauce, Sam See chow mein, shrimp wonton....DELICIOUS!

And to top it all off....I got an amazing, amazing gift from Dad.... New fridgies!!! And some pink Pyrex to booth!

And I didn't have the yellow one! First thing I did when I got home was to wash them in the tangerine soap....Ok sounds crazy but it's like I'm bonding with the Pyrex....Call me nuts!

Pivotal moments

I'm giving total credit to my fellow blogger and hysterically funny Crazy Suburban Mom for this post.

She did a pivotal moments post last Monday and it really got me thinking....

1) The what do you mean it's not yellow??? moment (this is a pic of my house)

When we bought the house 14 years ago, I was soooo sure it was yellow (really, really sure, cross my heart hope to die kinda sure....).

A couple of months go by and Dan mentions the beige siding...Beige? BEIGE???? What do you mean beige siding???? What do you mean it's not yellow??? I bought a beige house! I BOUGHT A BEIGE HOUSE!!!! And then snap crackle pop I start bawling my eyes out ( I couldn't believe it, I bought a beige house??? I hate beige!)

With a green roof and a green balcony it now looks yellower!

2) The I'm just as good moment

That one happened in 2008, after being laid off. 2007 and early 2008 were really hard at work. I had awful coworkers who treated me like crap and let's face it I felt like crap (ok what is happening with the font???).I was feeling not as good as everybody and very self conscious. Always wondering what people would think of me....

I was feeling shy and not up to par. Then it hit me! I'm just as good as anyone!!! I'M JUST AS GOOD AS ANYONE!!!! HEEHAW!!! WHO CARES WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF ME! I love myself! I'm nice and fun to be with and I love Pyrex, and cats and bold colors and hawaian shirts!!!

Needless to say I have been feeling great ever since! LOL

3) The dogs love to work moment

This one hit me last week. I'm more of a cat person especially since the only dog I had (Pogo) got run over by a car in front of me when I was 5 (to deal with the pain I had a 3 color popsicle). Barking dogs bugged me, I found them a pain in the butt.

Until last week when I physically felt the quarter fall (like a pinball machine) and I saw a little light...Dogs are just doing their job!

DOGS LOVE TO WORK!!! I see it in their eyes, they want to do a good job for their masters. And I also hear it in their barks : Go away stranger or hello there friend or I'm watching my territory, don't worry I'll tell you if there's something going on.

Since then I'm friends with all the dogs in my neighborhood!

So for me ,they could be trivial or important, pivotal moments will (there goes the font again???) make you see life in a different way!

Have a great one!
