October???

last 2 weeks f August flew by....and so did September.

The temps are cooler, praise the Lord!

All I did this summer was sweat....I swear!

 This is my kitchen wall, the only one without cabinets.

My Dad had knife magnets installed, more than 20 years ago.

For some reason, I always have been skittish about using theThis m....

but after 3 years, I guess i am used to them...

This mug made me crack up...

I wish I pooped glitter!

 One of the last things I sold ....it makes room in the yard and fattened a bit the vacate fund.

that sight really made my day!

                                Cleaning the carport, I opened a box and spotted these Pyrex treasures....
                                I am not ashamed to proclaim that I brought them back inside!
                                They appeared at my one and only garage sale in 2016.....
                                 They did not sell.....



So far the water feature is closed, the front steps have been repainted and I removed the weeds from the front of the house....

Next weekend it is Canadian Thanksgiving...and we plan to close both fountains and plant the perennials I purchased. And slowly closing the flower borders for the winter.

Maybe we feast and give thanks with oysters...or a roast...I have no idea yet

Life is pretty good right now.

I try my very best to do everything right at work, 

to cook light, healthy and low salt....

But I must confess...it is not always a success...

last night I cooked a supper that tasted of nothing even if I put effort in it!

OH WELL! LOL

 Found a new friend for my pink friend....

The pink one is vintage. The green one came originally from 

the dollarsatore was priced at $1.50...the sticker was on the bottom

but I got her at Goodwill (Renaissance) for 75 cents

so a win for me!

So this picture I did not bother turning because sometimes a girl

is just tired....

This is a mold/casserole that I found in one of my Dad's crate

Someone identified it on Facebook but I forgot the name...

I am in a weird place mentally...I don't know why or how

TCB (Taking Care of Business)

I procrastinate....Usually because I am afraid to fail (stupid, eh?)

6 or 7 years ago we bought 2 folding lawn chairs, you know the kind, every body had some in the 60's and 70's.

 Of course I forgot to take the REAL before picture, with all the old 

webbing!

 See how worn it is in the middle.

I was afraid it would rip out every time I would sit in it.

I had bought some new webbing from Ebay quite a long time ago to 

repair the chairs, but it was sitting in a cupboard waiting for me to stop 

procrastinating...

Well today I did!

It took me a couple of hours and guess what?

 I was scared for nothing!

It was real easy!

 Nice and sturdy!

And I have some leftover to redo the other chair!

I am so proud of myself!

Moving Day follow up

After I wrote about my unbelievable find ...AKA the Safe T Cone

I went to the convenience store to validate my lottery tickets....

And get the new ticket I HAD to buy since I found the amazing blowmold ice cream cone!

I took the opportunity to visit other garbage piles....

And I saw this big green Tupperware from the 70's (I think) and I just had to save it from the dump!

I opened it and it was full of flour! Oh my!

I grabbed it and snuck in the car port and dumped the content in the garbage...

 I am sure I will get a lot of use out of this one!

I was appalled to see all the waste from moving day.

I saw a lot of unopened food stuff such as pasta and rice.

A lot of clothes and empty bottles.

But on the selfish side...I can't wait for next year to see what people left!

I also wished I had seasonal pictures to share with you ...It snowed here yesterday....and we are knee deep in painting the kitchen!

In between coats....we clean, purge and pack!

I made quite the discovery on Friday while cleaning a shelf in front....

                                         All these homemade liqueurs! Blackberry, orange, strawberry,
                                         coffee, red currant and xmas cordial!
                                         Of course it was my duty to taste them all to see if some had
                                         gone bad! I threw out 2 : the orange liqueur was soapy (EW)
                                          and the xmas cordial was lumpy! and the taste was off as well!
                                         

                                           I was looking for wrapping packing paper in Staples on Wednesday
                                           and saw my favorite Tassimo flavor! Pumpkin Spice Latte!
                                           And the price was just right too $4.99 a package instead of $12.99,
                                           So I grabbed 3 packs. DELICIOUS! Unfortunately, they are discontinued...
                                           I don't know what will happen in the Tassimo/Keuring battle....
                                           Tassimo makes a mean cappucino and a meaner latte but there are less
                                            varieties....
 

                                                    As mentionned before we are painting the kitchen.

Thrifting in the Big City

I so totally needed a break from job hunting yesterday so I took the train and headed out to Montreal. Thrusday is the perfect day to go thrifting because my most favorite (take that syntaxe!) church basement is only opened on thrusday afternoon. I had high hopes becasue this is like my digger's delight, I found a lot of Pyrex in that dusty basement!

OMG! What a disappointment! I couldn't help thinking about Tracy's digger's delight bumer visit! You can read about it HERE . Nothing interesting and everything was way too expensive! I saw a cute glass pitcher decorated with orange slices (not Pyrex) with matching juice glasses it was 16$. WHOA NELLIE! And I heard a guy ask the price of an old toaster oven the volunteer said it was 15$. WHAT??? 15$ for an old (not vintage) and dirty toaster oven?

Boy oh boy that place sure has changed! They watched too much Antique Roadshow! LOL

After the CBD (church basement debacle) I walked to Chinatown for lunch and  Xmas shopping. Now you understand that I can't show you what I bought because Xmas is-a-coming!

Then it was time for the Salvation Army!

I saw a wall of phones! Yes Salvation Army? I'd like to donate 50 touchtone phones!

This is the mother of all trophies! This one is for you Erin (too bad we're not neighbors....lol)

I also saw this cute carafe but left it there because I didn't need anymore and they don't really sell well in the store either.

So I actually left the Salvation Army empty handed!

Later after I met Dan we went to Friperie Renaissance in Verdun. That place never has anything and it's like a circus with clothing really.

And I saw this little guy...

A cute red 402 all by his lonesome! I took it in my arms and checked the rest of the store for goodies. After 

   was done I put it back on the shelf for somebody else to find and cherish (heck I already have one)

Then I saw something really sweet , something bold and graphic...

This beautiful vintage bed sheet! Which reminded me of a Pyrex pattern... This morning I went to the basement to get my bowl....and this is what they look like together.

Freaky! How cool is that?

Stuff I didn't buy!

A I was perusing my picture library, I noticed a lot of pics from fleas in Maine. Here are some of the stuuf I didn't buy....

This lamp was a riot! If my decor was red and black and had the price been a LOT cheaper, this gorgeous piece of man would've lighted my boudoir!

At the front 2 Pyrex cups. Now I had to explain to Dad that I didn't NEED every piece of Pyrex under the sun. He proceeded to explain his vision of a collection...LOL

I love that chippy blueish turquoisy scale but I already have one, sigh!

This teapot is a showstopper!

22.50$ for a green bowl??? Are they out of their minds???

This is another of those TBNT Pyrex pieces (to me at least). So if you MUST have it, it still might be in Scarborough, Maine....One never knows! 

Is this a cool dish set or what??? 19$ for the lot and the booth had a 50% off sale too, so that is 9.50$ for the lot! I didn't get it because I have a Martha Stewart Everyday white dish set and I'm scared that if I gave it away, she would find out and send her minions. Yes she has minions! That comedian is their leader. So don't mess with Martha she sees, hears and knows everything!

I still haven't asked Dan for the sofa receipt so I can see the store's name and blog about it...but the sofa full of vinyl deliciousness is arriving later tonight! I can't wait! giggles!

Pyrexlicious Weekend!

Saturday was the perfect day to go to Chinatown and enjoy a nice dim sum with Dad, Josée,Nathalie,Dan and of course Henry! Josée and Nathalie are my cousins. We always have fun when we meet! It was Henry's first time at a dim sum....

After a bit of grocery shopping (seaweeds,soya sauce,hoisin sauce,jasmin tea) we headed back to my Dad's place where he surprised me with the gift of Pyrex....

Here's a closer look at the green bowl....

 

On the left is my mom's green 403 and on the right the one dad gave me. Notice the color difference. The right one is much older that the left one. It is also thicker. The bottom markings don't include the bowl size, a sure sing of it's age. Primary bowls were introduced in 1947, so this one is probably from that period!

On Sunday after our dance lesson  we headed to Ste-Genevieve (near Pierrefonds) on the island of Montreal to the flea market. It is a small flea opened only on Sundays. It consists of an old house and further down in the parking lot a big 'barn' with more vendors in. The inside of the house is a big jumble bordering on an episode of Hoarders. In the big 'barn' different vendors sell everything from dishes,dolls,furniture,comic books...You want it they probably have it. My favorite booth (and always the last one I visit) is the Appaloosa Antiques & Collectables. At last someone selling my kind of stuff! And reasonnable too!Fireking,Pyrex,Glasbake,Federal...Casseroles,glasses,dishes,barware etc....And I'm sure I missed half the wonderful wares because I was hypnotized by this:

Yes it is...The 2qt Turquoise Snowflake Space Saver Casserole with metal lid! Originaly sold in a set : A 2qt with metal lid and a 1 1/4qt with a glass lid. The nmetal lid was designed to go in the freezer and you could put another casserole dish on top! Totally Fab! I had been looking for one for quite a while...Even the eBay Gods were frowning on me! I bet on more of those than I care to remember and they were always toooo expensive.

You are now looking at one happy camper!

Homemade Granola

As the days grow shorter and the temperature drops, I find myself craving some serious comfort foods....Soup and granola! I make soup a couple of times a week. It's usually vegetable soup. This week since I bought 10 pounds of carrots for 1.66$, I made cream of carrot soup with ginger. I must admit it's NOT the best! LOL

As for the granola, I remembered a recipe given to me by a doctor when I was working in an STD* clinic way back in 1989 : Squirrel Cereal.

You take quick cook oats (4 cups) and unsweetened coconut (1 cup),walnuts (1 cup),sunflower seeds (1 cup), wheat germ (1 cup) I didn't put any- I didn't feel like bicycling all the way to the store, 1/2 maple syrup (the recipe said honey, but I had plenty of syrup) ,1/2 cup vegetable oil and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. You put the first five ingredients in a bowl, mix well, heat the syrup-warm not a boil, dump it with the dry ingredients along with the oil and the vanilla.

Mix well with a big ol' spoon and dump on baking sheets lined with parchement paper. You bake at 350F for about 30 min and turn once. Ok to tell you the truth I put my timer for 15 min and checked it like a hawk because I remember burned granola....And that's not good. After it's cooled, store it in an air tight container. DELICIOUS!

Even if I wanted to do the whole recipe organic....I couldn't. My oats are organic and so is the maple syrup. But it's still better for you than store bought cereal full of refined sugar and assorted crap!

How do I eat the granola? Sprinkled on plain fat free yoghurt mixed with half a banana. TDF! To die for!

A note on the bowl, the 403 green Pyrex bowl. This is my first Pyrex bowl. It was my mother's, the interior is all scratch up, but it holds a lot of memories!
