$2.99

We decided to have a R & R day. Yes you are right a Rest and Recreation day.

What it means for us is a drive to Ontario! And I had 2 boxes of stuff to give to Sally Ann.

But first we stopped at our neighborhood hardware store to get some supplies for tomorrow (reno day). We needed a tape gun to help us with the boxes.

We got one and 2 rolls of tape for $11.59 plus tax.

Our first stop in Cornwall, Ontario is always Value Village....I took great pictures.

If I still had my Etsy store , I would've picked this right up.

As a cat lover I found this both cute and scary!!!

You need t really LOVE bagels to have a bagel cradle in your
                                            house.
This is RARE, so RARE! A complete chip n dip set!
If it had been Pyrex, I think I would've had cardiac arrest...

I nearly bought this deliciously tacky Florida bowl, but remembered
Dan's instructions (don't bring anything home unless it is the Pyrex of
                                         your dreams/something really amazing!)

Speaking of amazing....I left this bar set on the shelf because it
was missing one piece on the right. We are planning to have a bar
in the new place but we haven't really discussed the specifics.

Speaking of bar...How about a round of booze roulette?
                                          new in original package?

Seeing Pyrex , even Old Orchard bowls, makes me happy.

                                                    Now onto lamps....
The green one, I found pretty interesting but
it seemed like a homemade contraption....
As for Marie Antoinette, it is so far from my taste....

                                                    And last but not least.....

                                                    2 tape guns for $2.99 !!!
Guess I'll be bringing the other back for a refund...and I'll get the tape at the dollarstore!

New beginnings

We did a lot of cleaning ,window washing, curtain cleaning, purging, shining, polishing over the weekend.

So I got to change one of the kitchen display

                                             Doesn't it look so fresh?

Thankfully these hardworking people were able to join friends and have dinner and deliver some Pyrex

We were invited by Dan's sister in law for supper and what do you know she adopted a nest of bowl!

Old Orchard set in its new home

To tell you the truth I'm soooo tired, I need to turn in to be fresh for tomorrow :)

Sleep tight!

Letting go

Well this is spring cleaning time and we're going full throttle!

We changed home insurance and they are sending an inspector for a risk assessment (oh joy oh bliss)

so we'd better clean up the basement FAST!

It was a hard decision but I decided to let go of some Pyrex...Yep, culling the Pyrex.

Here's what i'm letting go so far

An Old Orchard bowl set. I'm happy to say that my SIL Johanne adopted them right away!

                                A Woodlands bowl set

A Promo Hearts casserole with warmer

A Golden Acorn divided dish

I've texted my cousins but I'm doubtful they will adopt

I won't be putting them in the shop because people will be reluctant to pay the hight shipping for those heavy pieces.
There are no flea markets renting booths in my area and I don't feel like keeping them for a garage sale....

So in case you want them, I'm giving them away but you'll need to pay the shipping.

Otherwise they will be headed to my friendly neighborhood church basement.

Deciding to let go feels amazing!

More Roadtrip Deliciousness

Aaaaahhhh....Friday night!

The end of a long week, a nice quiet evening at home.... I can finally start to catch up with stuff.

Stuff to do, to cook, to clean... Thank god Dan was off and took care of business on the homefront while I was toiling away at the office.

We learned interesting things about the house....We had the workers rip the balcony off...we have some water damage, it seems it can be fixed and we won't get a new kitchen counter top for a while...LOL! I'd rather have a front balcony than a new counter top ! Oh well, when you have an older house these things happens.

Now for more pleasant and entertaining things!

These pictures are from our friday night meal from the Bell Buoy restaurant in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. It is one of the few year round restaurant.
Now on Tripadvisor it is 50-50 for that place and I can imagine they could get flustered and disorganized in the kitchen in the high season....But I've been there around 10 times and everytime the food is delicious.
Lasagna: great, fried whatever: great, spaghetti : great, roast beef: great.

And yes the decor is dated as in 1980's dated but it is mostly clean. I say mostly because it is hard to keep all those knick kancks dust free.

So my word of advice would be: don't go in the high season! Instead go and enjoy good, reasonnably priced food in late september or later!

Now you know I love watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives...and we try to visit places featured when we can.

This time we had to go back to the Maine diner in Wells, Maine. That place is soooo popular that they give you a beeper! We had to wait 45 minutes for lunch...Another place to really visit in the off season....lol
We first went in February 2011, in a storm of the century, so no line-ups!

This is a cup of their famous seafood chowder.
It is amazing. You have more seafood than broth: lobster, clams, scallops, shrimps, totally yummy!

Clockwise from the top: The famous lobster pie, coleslaw, mashed potatoes

Now the lobster pie is unlike anything you tasted: you have 4 ingredients: lobster, ritz crackers, tomalley (green stuff from lobster) and butter.
It is to die for. Creamy, rich, luxurious.

Now I wanted to try the cod cake...and what do you know it comes in the Triple D plate!

That was the best salted cod cake we had ever tasted!
It doesn't need the tartar sauce, no siree!

And at the bottom of the pic is their delicious cornmeal muffin served with honey whipped butter.

The only thing we left was the tartar sauce!

We will be back to sample more.
I hope they take reservations!
I might be going thrifting tomorrow!

I hope so :)

Decorating with Pyrex

Friday morning in the commuter train, while meditating....I thought about this....

This poor succulent was way too big for this little planter and was in jeopardy....

I needed to change its pot pronto!

But what could I use?
Believe it or not, I had a vision....

Using this....

This little guy was hanging out unloved in my garden shed....I'm not a big fan of the brown Pyrex.
But I needed  a planter and it was ready and willing!

Don't they look great together?

I could almost hear the plant giggling!

Have a great week!

Here we go again!

Ok here I am running all over the place like a chicken without a head....Re-packing the luggage, briefing the house sitter, doing laundry....

We are heading out to Maine (again lol) but this time with my Dad!

Where I hope to see more of these guys!

Old Orchard beach is slowly gentrifying itself...is it good? Not always!
A lot of really old signs will be replaced, like this Chop Suey sign. Not tell me, just who craves chop suey at the beach?

I try to immortalize these old gems as much as I can before they disappear....Ok I find this one really funny...Patate Frite means french fry in french, they put that translation for french canadians who used to make the bulk of the Old Orchard tourist trade. Now I ask you why a translation just for french fries? Why not for fried clams? Are french canadians not allowed to eat fried clams? Makes me wonder...

I will be stopping here for some apple pie....

And here for some spring water

And definitely enjoying a lot of this! I pray for some sun....

I also blogged @ The Pyrex Collective this morning so just go HERE for some Pyrex adventures!

Yum!

Supper was delicious last night!

The marinated tofu (soy sauce, garlic, fresh ginger, thyme, sesame oil and some water-you want color not over saltiness) is one of my faves!

It is sitting pretty in a Laurel Pyrex platter. The side dish was delicious as well. I took the recipe from a Flickr friend, it uses the overflow of one's garden. The only thing was that it made a lot of water. I'll have to figure how to fix that!

Here's the link:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/34473213@N02/3826128445/

It was made even more delicious by Pyrex charcoal snowflake Space saver! LOL! just like a Pyrex advertisement!

While I was running errands yesterday I saw this product and I bursted laughing!

ANTI MONKEY BUTT??? It is supposed to prevent and treat chaffing in the you guessed it butt area. But this product was placed in the foot care section. How funny is that?

Gotta run! I have to finish cleaning the house. We leave at dawn tomorrow....Old Orchard Beach here I come!

I'm back....

Aaaaaahhhhh! The beach, the sun, the sand, the wind, the cold....
the temperature wasn't as nice as last year....but i dipped nevertheless...Did not stay long....But I dipped!
I had my fill of seafood and junk, had a lot of fun and shopped sooooo much...I thought I would never shop again!!! The Maine mall is sure big! The term GINORMOUS comes to mind...I am sure there are bigger malls out there, but for us it sure was big. The foliage was beautiful. I say goodbye to OOB for the winter, and hopefully I will return next year. Today is a quicky post, but I will return shortly with a Pyrex finds post....see you later....

Countdown to the BEACH!!!

Only 3 bedtimes and we head to the beach!!!

During my stay in September, I tried to book a stay for canadian thanksgiving (Columbus day?) but everything was already booked (I was flabbergasted!!!), but I left my name in case there is an opening and believe it or not on the way back (on rte 26, Maine) they called and left a message!!! So We will be staying in a 2 bedroom condo ( we are taking SD-step daughter this time). She is really excited (never as much as me....) and the thought of going to Target, the beach and stuffing ourselves with seafood.... You get what I mean???
Did I mention that I am on a seafood diet? I see food and I eat it...lol hehehehe (which might explain all those extra pounds) But enough about weight!!! This is supposed to be a blog about my favorite things....I hope to go to LLBean in Freeport, Michael's and Xmas tree shop and to eat Bill's Pizza, lobster or fried foods from the Lobster claw, to walk on the beach and basically just veg out..It is going to be goooood! And of course maybe score a bit of Pyrex!!!
Oh and there's this chocolate moose (Life size its seems....) in Scarborough.
Good times will be had by all ......OOB here I come!!!

More Pyrex !

I just love those small casseroles! I use them for butter, a dip, a small left over, munchies...

The blue and the yellow are the first I bought in a church basement at 2$ each last September.

In my opinion Old Orchard is one of their most awful pattern...I have a soft spot for it because I love Old Orchard Beach (maine) so much. I got the 402 and 403 from a flea market in Cornwall, Ontario which proves that you eyes must be opened at all times....

I am not sure about that pattern either....I am never sure of the name ,Square green flowers?
But you never know! As time passes, my tastes evolve to Fisties,Sixties sometimes Seventies Kitsch. So only time will tell!
I am all out of pictures...bouhou, bouhou!
