Miracles do happen; some on a really, really small scale, You want proof? I'll give you proof!
2 weeks to the day I go back to the cafeteria where I lost my pants (yes I know this is funny and ridiculous; my friends still make fun of me) and lo and behold they are still on the shelf under the microwave!
Shows that people are honest? Or just don't care? Or the pants are ugly or worse FUGLY (fucking ugly)?
Anyways I'm really glad I found them and yes Dan was right; I basically bought the same pants...same color....same fit but the old ones had pockets in the back and the new ones have pockets in the front!
What can I say I love dark grey.
Now this is for my friend Tracy:
These dishes came in Flamingo, dove Grey, Lime and Turquoise. You could get those same colors with a gold band. If I find some more, I'll keep you in mind for sure.
About the pudding....well this is not my recipe, I've never made pudding from scratch. Jell-O pudding is one of the rare processed foods I buy. I like it because it's fast, thrifty, fat free and sugar free!
Ansd since Dan had some dental work done it was the perfect dessert for a quick snack. On top a dollop of Cool Whip ( Dan loves the stuff)
Well it's past my bedtime, so I must skeddadle! I hope to blog some more over the weekend.
As my regular readers might remember, I enjoy country line dancing and I have a class every Thursday night. We arrive early and eat our lunch in the cafeteria. After a leisurely supper and a game of majong on the Igadgets, I decided to change pants because I can’t dance in work pants, I find them too dorky and constrictive. Dan is on guard to make sure nobody walks in and let’s face it it takes about 2 minutes.
I always feel better in my jeans, they’re old and soft! When I finally get home tired, achy and sweaty I always unpack my bag....And that is when it hit me! I forgot my pants in the cafeteria! OMG how pea brained of me!
This morning I gathered all the courage I could and I called the hall where I left my pants and this bitchy receptionist told me they don’t keep anything, they don’t a lost and found, it’s not their policy yaddayaddayadda (yes I know this is annoying!). I finally hang up heartbroken , I need to buy new pants. That is a super BUMMER! I don’t know what I will be able to squeeze 40$ from.
Dan (ever the optimist) says I will find them next week. I hope so
Anyways every time I think of this I crack up, it is funny!
This week we had topsy turvy weather. Rain, snow, freezing rain all in one day. Some say it's the year of the un-winter because it's really mild and we don't have much snow for Québec. Me i'm against rain in winter, I need snow!
I must admir that frosted branches are real pretty!
Yep some fried seafood....It would do mama some good!
Next week at this time I will be walking on the beach...Oh yeeeesssss!
But right this minute I'm making blackberry jam, yum! And running around trying to get everything ready for fall. Like close the pool, pool girl was busy this weekend! And ripping up the vegetable garden, this was a bad season for tomatoes! I have only a dozen and they're still green.
The edamame yield was better than last year and it's all frozen for future meals and snacks, I have 3 batches of pesto in the freezer and a last one on the way. The cukes were great and so were the cherry tomatoes. The lettuce was terrible, oh well! It happens!
I realized that I had a photo album full of recipes I have never tried! So I read them all yesterday and decided to chuck the book and make some room for all the free ones I found.
I'm catching up on No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain and I must admit he's not as bad as I first thought, in fact he's quite entertaining and makes me travel cheaply! Thank you for visiting Dubai, it's certainly a curiosity and now I know I will never go! Too hot, dry, dusty and I would spend the whole trip saying that they wasted their money on stupid things like the indoor ski resort. Imagine all the money and ressources wasted to operate this place!
I give nicknames a lot to people, sometimes it's upfront and sometimes it's nasty business behind their backs it depends on the case. Now my latest creation is 'Plastic Face' and the recipient of it is Leah Miller host of SYTYCD Canada. Leah is 29 years old and between seasons she had so much plastic surgery she looks frozen in time. I think it makes her look like an older Holywood actress trying to hold on desesperatly to her youth (Read that Mary-Louise Parker? with you vending machine nose?). Leah you ARE young, lay off the plastic surgery! You will so regret it later in life.
Ok about the vending machine nose...it seems that ALL the actresses go to the same plastic surgeon and he only knows how to make one nose! Watch tv and you will agree!
As you may or may not know; I take country line dancing lessons. It is great fun and great exercise!
Since we learn at least one dance each week, sometimes my brain turns to mush and I get all the dances mixed up; so I turn to Youtube as a learning tool. Yep all the dances I've learned so far are in there; so I watch them and learn and unscramble my brain.
Of all the videos I've watched most are of all asian women dancing, line dancing must be really big over there....Here's a taste!
That is a fun dance but a terrible song! Tennesse Waltz surprise, shhisshhh! Most of the words are in german, the rest in english and every body LOVES that song. So I didn't sleep well last night all I could think of was that stupid song! LOL
And last but not least let's celebrated fall with this....
Today marks the 15th anniversary of the day we got the keys from the notary for this little house. Happy B-Day house! You've been good to us and we thank you for that. Even if I sometimes think you were built with leftover saturday night remnants; this is sooo much better in french! Faite en restants de samedi soir; meaning second quality, not strong, flimsy. You've been strong and secure winter after winter, windstorm after windstorm. Being near the Ottawa river we get MAJOR wind!
So thank you house! You keep us dry and comfy and make us feel good. We love you and are looking forward to many more years with you...
There is NO place like home!!!
She was built in 1945 as 2 cottages (?). I know 2??? And that's all I know (mostly). Sometimes in the summer, I will look outside and there's this old guy standing in the yard (never the same guy) saying that he used to hang out here or walk through here and there was no road before....
It seems that at one point the cottage or cottages belonged to Yvon Deschamp's parents (he a very famous quebec comedian). Now since my dad was friends with him, my dad hung around in the summer when he was like 18. So that means my dad was at my house way before I bought it! How crazy is that?
Of course I had no idea at the time I bought the house...No idea whatsoever!
I had a very busy saturday. We had to be in Old Montreal by 12:30 because the new Cirque du Soleil show (Totem) started at 1. I feel very blessed to have seen this show. I realise a lot of people can't afford tickets. They are crazy expensive! If my dad didn't work for Cirque du Soleil I don't think I would ever have seen any. This year's show Totem was so much better than last year's. Really! It felt new and fresh and the set was gorgeous.
After the show ended (4 pm) we had to make a mad dash west to get home, change, feed the cats and be in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield by 6pm for our year end country line dance party.
The food was delightful and we danced our asses off until the last beginner song...
Yesterday was lazy and fun...we went grocery shopping at Maxi &Cie (Canada's Superstore for the rest of the country) and since they have tons of other stuff we spent a lot more than we should've, but it was great fun!
Today it's kinda rainy, so no pool work this morning, instead I'm doing the wash...No joke it's my favorite chore!
Boy oh boy what a great weekend we had! I'm still laughing! Saturday we attended a benefit for the Canadian Cancer Society in a country dance bar called the Honky Tonk. Money was raised by selling raffle tickets, entrance fee including a spaghetti dinner and you could pay a sherriff to send someone in jail for 2 minutes. That was really fun! Of course you would try to be covert so the future jailee was unaware....So a lot of hijinxs followed!
One of the raffles was a bird house similar to this....I'm glad I didn't win it....
Our dance teacher was really proud that half the money raised from the jail came from her students (we were around 15). Of course between jail sentences we would dance our feet off!
Yesterday SD came to visit. We took her to our dance class-it was really hard to dance with her watching but I kept reminding myself that I danced in front of 150-200 people the night before so....And we went for good old french fries..Do you realize how long it was since I had french fries???
Speaking of which: On January 18th embarked on a journey to get rid of the bulge. It's been a parade of low fat, low carb, high protein foods....So far I've lost more than 4 of these:
Or you could say I've lost more than one of these....
Let's not talk about Peanut's weight....ok?
It's basically the half way point. Now I'm starting the transition to the GI diet which will give me more options. I was really excited to read I would be able to eat beans and carrots. OMG! I was so giddy when I read that!!! And the recipes look SOOOOO good! I can't wait to dig in!
I found some interesting thingies at my beloved church basement!
As you can see in the first pic: 3 little cocktail napkins-I think they came from the dollar store, an hot water bottle with a seasonal sweater and a doubleglo angel tree topper.
The hot water bottle was sold by Avon in 2004.
Unfortunately my pictures are not always spot on.
So I'm providing a picture of just the angel...Look at that face! I don't know if I should be enchanted or terrified!
That is certainly a conversation starter!
Since I didn't have a hot water bottle, I will be keeping it as well as the napkins (to wrap small gifts) but I will definitely be listing the tree topper in my etsy shop...
Later I will be attending my weekly country line dancing class...I'm not a country music person...at all, but this is so much fun, I'm having the time of my life every sunday afternoon! We won't be learning any new dance today, the entire time will be dedicated to practicing all the dances we learned...we wouldn't want to make fools of ourselves at the dance school Xmas party, now would we? LOL
I find myself dancing in my kitchen, in parking lots whereever the fancy strikes! I even watch CMT (country music television) when I clean my kitchen....
Not too far from Cliff's is where Lenny the chocolate Moose lives.
Yes you read right, a chocolate moose. He lives in the Len Libby store, which sell candies, chocolates and ice cream.
Believe it or not (but I swear it's true!) I was all sugared out and even the sight of fudge made me feel queasy....So I didn't buy anything. But I was sure glad to meet Lenny. Yes it is made of real chocolate, all 1700 pounds of it! I was quite surprised because he looked much better than in the pictures i'd seen on flickr (he looked all white, like old chocolate).
The pond he was standing in was a bit dusty....Un-Yum!
Here's a close up of one of Lenny's pals a cute bear cub, also made of chocolate. But why the pink cap?
I'm glad I saw this. I think it's a once in a lifetime thing. It was weird and funny at the same time.
Today we started country line dance courses. That was a hoot! We learned 2 dances: the canadian stroll and the electric slide. I can't wait for next week! And to think that I don't even listen to country music! LOL
